Product Review: Simply Wize Gluten Free Puff Pastry – 540g

Their gluten-free puff pastry comes in a packet of four sheets and retail for AUD$11. These are about half the size of your standard frozen sheets of pastry.
I wanted to make a spinach pie (my recipe is loosely based on spanikopita) and so I rolled out two sheets so they were big enough to fit my rectangular baking tin (27.5cm x 17.5cm x 3.5cm). This made them quite thin and almost filo pastry-like. I did not blind bake, and made sure to drain the spinach really well so that the filling was not too moist. I brushed the top with a little melted butter and it cooked well, had a nice, golden colour and tasted like pastry should. It was not too flaky and the leftovers held together after being in the fridge and reheated.
Aside from the cost, the reduced size of the sheets made it a little awkward to use, but the taste and texture were good.
Mods, I note there is no "!: yeast-free" tag.

Fucking shoot me into outer space strapped to a rocket.
+ Got to see the latest Avatar movie at the cinemas. My least favorite of the three, lacking the genuine awe and beauty of the world. What they did try just felt forced, and one character in particular should have been left to die in the second movie ugh.

There's this whole thing where there's two wolves inside of me, one appreciating the thought and care put into every decision, and how slow it's allowed to move, the second wanting to pick into every detail and tear through it. Both enjoyable in different ways!

It was pretty great, but the beginning felt too much like a caricature. They probably should have released it a month earlier, instead of in the middle of Heated Rivalry, where the writing/directing/acting is full of subtleties.
There's major m/m, and more to come if they keep adapting the manga.

The fic's probably more enjoyable and easier to figure out if you know canon, and I also found I picked up more of the humor and details on a second reading. It's an amusing fic, but also about (largely) female support systems, and shows that NHL partners are not unlike military wives. Very well done. The plot takes a very different turn at the 2018 Korean Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. It's told from Ilya's point of view after what initially seems an utter disaster following which he has to flee the Russian authorities. Although it starts with trauma, most of the story is about how Ilya's life is rebuilt, with Shane being central to that, as are his teammates, and Shane's parents. It's an engaging story with great characterization and fun banter between Ilya and Shane, Ilya often being his usual in-your-face, snarky self. A heartwarming story with plenty of comfort to offset the initial hurt.

This sure has been a year. I adopted two new gardens, finishedinkingitout and novel-writing month, and bought both a car and a dog sled.
The dog sled is a kit that's supposed to double as a kicksled; it should arrive in a couple of weeks. (Daphne will not be pulling it. If I'm lucky she'll ride for a bit.) I just learned about kicksledding ::checks:: yesterday, so. As per usual.
Relatedly, I heard the following fun bilingualism today:
“我已经try very hard to 给我自己花钱。” ("I already try very hard to spend money on myself.")
Currently in legos I'm building a waterfall, which the box tells me will light up and move when I'm done. Despite my decades of STEM employment, my engineering experience is largely limited to assembling furniture and garden equipment. I suppose success or failure will determine whether this part of the jianghu becomes Cloud Recesses or Lotus Pier.
I found the velociraptors, by the way. And the dolphins! The dolphins are now frolicking at the foot of Baoshan Sanren's mountain. (I've already forgotten what I did with the velociraptors. They might be in the garden.) (ETA: They are in the chicken coop.)
The sky was very beautiful today.
