Heavenly Tyrant by Xiran Jay Zhao is the sequel to Iron Widow, where Zetian co-pilots giant robots to fight aliens.
The plot now focuses on dismantling capitalism and keeps deconstructing gender roles.
There's major bi4bi m/f (a pairing I didn't like, but was probably not supposed to like much anyway?), minor f/f, as well as an enby character who appears towards the end. I seriously missed the m/m/f from Book 1 and might not buy the next book.

I Wish The Metrics For Value Were Completely Different
My book has only been out for a day and I've already had an epiphany: that it's not just being employed that makes me depressed, it's also thinking about the prospect of earning money, or I should say, the prospect of doing something to earn money on purpose. If I earn money by accident, I'll be happy.
But how do I Survive if trying to earn money (rather than money coming as a consequence albeit not the main intended consequence) makes me depressed?? Like??? I asked Vara on our walk today after trying not to relapse ALL DAY and Vara said, "Maybe you're finding that what you thought to be truth might have been an assumption." Like!!!
THE LAST TIME I WROTE A BOOK, I DID NOT HAVE A WHOLE EXISTENTIAL CRISIS, SO WHY NOW. As soon as I think about whether this book will profit, or earn out, or earn at all, I'm very blue, as blue as the bottom of the ocean where the sun doesn't reach. I thought it's because of a lack of hope at first, but really it's about everything above. Whenever I'm doing something, whatever it is, I don't want to have to think about money. I don't want to feel anxiety about spending. I don't want to feel anxiety about earning. Spending five years in the formal workforce didn't help my anxiety about either. Having been laid off from the workforce and existing as I am now isn't helping my anxiety about either.
Also early readers have been telling me that the book reads like fanfiction and I'm heartily saying, "Then I have accomplished what I have set out to," that is, prioritise pleasure; but when getting these reactions I remembered this tumblr post about fanfiction. Especially this bit:

And if you stuff fanworks into containers of capitalistic consumption, you're gonna be very frustrated. "But was that journal entry good?" "But was that meal among friends good?" I wish I could say I've been up to more than I've actually been doing. Mostly, I've been focused on my tech projects, my Fic in a Box assignment (only one assignment left to go!), and in between those I've been working on electronic music with my alter, as well as bitsy games, personal writing, and digital art. I have been doing the montly Minvember (Babylon 5 monthly prompt and palette challenge on Tumblr) stuff and it's been really fun, too. I'm trying sooo hard to finish a game one of these days. I keep joining jams and then never doing them.
My life's been pretty unexpectedly great lately, even if I've been struggling a bit with PTSD and paranoia as of the past few days. I'm in a place where I can reach out to others for reassurance without feeling bad about it, and I think that's a really good place for me to be in. It's an accomplishment for sure. I'm so grateful for all the good things I have. It's a little insane to me that I feel content and finally see a future for myself.
I find myself dreaming a lot about the future lately. I hope mine is beautiful. I am going to try so hard to make it beautiful, and to make the lives of my loved ones equally as beautiful.
I usually don't go places besides my ketamine treatments, but I find myself both satisfied for once with my online life and wishing I wasn't so housebound. I find that I am happy talking to my loved ones on Discord and playing with my bird and writing silly fanfiction. I wish I could go out and do things, to be a part of the universe around me, but that's simply not something my body will allow at the moment and I have to make peace with that. I think it'll all be okay.
What else?
Future self-hosting projects I'm going to be working on--
1) Personal blog
2) Community blogging or journalling site (a better one than Mourning Dove lol)
3) Reestablish forums
4) New features to my instances of OTWArchive
I have a lot to do! Mostly right now I am focusing on Sunset upgrades and bug fixes. It's been a wild ride with Sunset so far, but I do have a passion for it.
I don't really know what else to say, other than that I wanted to do a more in-depth update for once. I hope you're all doing well.

Today was really lovely; crisp and cool without being cold, the sun bright in the pale blue sky, and the leaves all turning rich autumn reds and golds <3
Also I went to the other dojo tonight to help a friend with test prep, which was a delight, and then stayed after for another ~45min doing some extra practice and talking with them and another mutual friend (who I hadn't seen in a while).

Succession: "You're the Face"
When Logan is telling Kendall why he has chosen him to be sacrificed in "This Is Not for Tears", he says "The hearings…you did so well. But now…you're the face."
But this did not happen passively.
In the previous episode, "DC", Logan turns the heat on Kendall during the hearings. “At that point, I believe my son was across that operation, right?” he says in response to a question directed at himself.
This is very deliberate - so deliberate that Logan actually apologizes to Ken afterward: "I'm sorry if it was rough". Kendall insists “it was fine. We're good. It's all good.” I think Logan both feels guilty and is trying to get a read on Kendall, to decide if Kendall will go along with being the face of the scandal, if Logan has that much power in the relationship. I don't know that Logan was planning on sacrificing Ken at this point, but he definitely was setting up a situation that made that kind of maneuver possible.

Bloodhunt Academy's release
Bloodhunt Academy is officially out, in all its glory. Right now it's available on the Zon and KU but gradually, as spoons allow, I'll be looking at how to make it available to digital libraries (perhaps via Hoopla? And Overdrive to get the book into Libby?) Research is pending.
If you know someone who'd like to read a polyamorous romance about bisexual vampires who fall in love with humans, trust-building, and rebels in dystopia, word of mouth helps. And that's enough promo for today. (I have sent the launch newsletter, updated website and posted to Instagram. I should post to Bluesky but don't feel like. I'll do it tomorrow.)
