A Crazy Rich Asians television series is currently in development with Adele Lim and Jon M. Chu returning. I can't believe it's been seven years since the movie premiered, and considering how well it did it surely was guaranteed for the adaptation of the rest of the book trilogy. But, with Adele Lim leaving production of the sequel due to inequality payment and citing racism and sexism as a huge factor into that, the sequels were further delayed for years, and it seemed the longer the waiting game was the less likely it was going to happen. So having both Adele Lim and Jon M. Chu, who supported her throughout, returning together to make a show for the books is an unexpected but pleasant surprise.
There's no information based on the articles I've seen as to what this television series will entail, since there are conflicting reports about a spin-off film for Gemma Chan and Harry Shum Jr.'s characters is being made this year. Whether or not this will coincide with each other or be completely different or if the original cast are returning for either, we'll just have to see.
