++ Daredevil: Born Again official trailer. The gangs all there, and thankfully the trailer showcases how brutal and violent it is, which is something I think many feared would have changed once Disney got a hold of it. But we have been reassured by Charlie Cox that it's not only a continuation of the Netflix series it's also going to be more violent than before, and this trailer proves it. I'm still holding reservations until we see the final product once it drops (as I am repeating the mantra of "please be good, please be good"), but so far yeah. I'm in. Now where is my girl Elektra....

++ [community profile] tv_talk is currently having a rec fest week, where every day there is a different prompt about recommending and talking about shows of specific genres. I've been really enjoying participating in it.

++ And now a fandom shipping meme, as seen from various people on my flist:

01. Three shipping tropes you love?

Enemies-to-lovers: And by this I mean properly enemies-to-lovers, not some mild rivalry but actually wanting to kill/maim/destroy their lives, as in if there hasn't been an actual physical altercation and blood being drawn it doesn't count. There is something so deliciously crunchy about this trope because it's literally about enemies who hate each other to the point of absolute obsession. It's the intimacy about enemies understanding one another on such a twisted level, that they cannot imagine living their lives without them. I like all flavors of this trope, from straightforward enemies-with-benefits to enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, even the rare but still delicious lovers-to-enemies. Just any variation of this where it's fucked up and heavily complicated due to their shared history.

Mutual pining: It's the yearning and longing and believing it's all one-sided when it's not, combined with misunderstanding and an eventual emotional confession. I'm such a sucker for this every single time.

Omegaverse: I just think it's hot. *shrugs* Also, fandom has gotten incredibly creative with it since it started rising in popularity, expanding and creating their own individual lores depending on the canons, so yes I have particular preferences with this trope, but mostly I love the dynamics of it when it comes to a specific pairing.

02. Three shipping tropes you don't love?

Cheating/infidelity: I just can't. The only time this is ever acceptable is if it's just a mere misunderstanding and quickly resolved, but otherwise nope.

Love triangles: Most of the time it's not done well, or there's never any kind of creativity to the concept to make it stand out and just falls into the same stereotypes. Unless it ends with a polycule situation it's just not something I am interested in.

That's all I can think of, at the moment. I'm someone who is very particular with some of the fandoms I read fic for, some tropes in genral I just don't care for (high school AU, for example), but shipping tropes I'm more a bit more flexible with. Some I might not actively seek out or read right away, but eventually curiosity will get the better of me and I can be persuaded given it is written well.

03. One emotional aspect of a ship that always gets you?
When they realize just how much they mean to each other, and how scary and overwhelming it is just to be understood and to be known, through all the self-doubt and insecurities and darkest moments. This is accompanied by plenty of hurt/comfort (another favorite trope) and building of that relationship to get to that point. I consider this the second "oh" moment after the initial realization of feelings. It's the realization of being loved no matter what. I like seeing characters find love when they didn't think they were lovable, when they've had such denial and self-loathing or thought the other deserved better than someone like them (and vice versa, loving the other so much that they will do anything to help them realize how precious they are to them).

04. One physical aspect of a ship that always gets you?
When they're protective of one another, like bodily shielding each other from something no matter how big or mild the potential threat is, physical or verbal. Bonus points for there being a hint of possessiveness, too. I also really love body worship, like making sure the other knows that they're loved and cared for no matter what insecurities they may have about themselves. It can be in any kind of scenario, whether in smut or just in general. And yes, size differences as well.

05. Multiship or monoship?
I consider myself a multishipper in general, but it really does depend on the canon since there are some OTPs I have that I cannot imagine being with other characters, whereas with others I have multiple different ships with the characters of my preferred OTP.

06. Rare pairs or mainstream?
The majority of my ships are non-canon and rarepairs. When it comes to "mainstream" this is either talking about canonical pairings or popular pairings within the fandom, the latter is more common for me than the former.

07. Polyamory or monogamy?
Again, depends on the fandom.

08. If the ship is physical, reversible or not?
I don't quite understand this question.

09. Do you always have romantic ships for fandoms?
No, actually. There are definitely some fandoms where I don't have any ships whatsoever. Or, I can see it and I'm fine with any canonical romance that appears but I'm not at all fannish about.

10. How important is the sexual part (if any) of your ship?
I want to say not that important. I enjoy reading some good smut of course, but at the end of the day it's not the sexual aspect of the relationship that I'm into it's the dynamic of the characters. The sexy times are a major bonus.

11. Opinion on platonic ships?
They're fine.

12. Three ships you currently love?

01. Luo Fei/Huo Wensi (Detective L)
02. Zhuo Yichen/Zhao Yuanzhao (Fangs of Fortune)
03. Zongzheng Huaien/Jin Xiaobao (Meet You At The Blossom)

13. Five OTPs from past fandoms?

01. Faith/Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
02. Harry/Draco (Harry Potter)
03. Lan Xichen/Jiang Cheng (The Untamed / MDZS)
04. Six/Gaius (Battlestar Galactica)
05. Max/Zack (Dark Angel)

14. Opinion on the importance of marriage?
When it comes to fiction, not at all important. Whether it be in fanfiction or canon, I don't necessarily care one way or another if my preferred pairing ends up getting married if that's what they want and it makes sense for their story and journey. But it's neither here nor there for me. I think the only fics I've read where marriage happens is usually something that is of cultural significance to the canon or something that is otherworldly, which can lead to interesting situations and scenarios (ex: accidental marriages or soul bonds). I also like certain arranged marriage/marriage of convenience stories where it's about building of a relationship and trust between the characters, which can lead to mutual pining which leads to the inevitable eventual love confessions.

So yeah, I guess for me when it comes to fandom/fanfiction traditional marriage ceremonies are kind of whatever, but having different kinds of marriage can be interesting to play with.

15. Opinion on OC kids?
Again, neither here nor there for me. I think my issue is the way the kids are written in a fic because I think a lot of authors just don't know how to write children at all, which is why kidfic isn't really my thing.

Oh, I am digging that trailer. Poor Charlie is still holding onto his American accent with fishing wire and hope, but I'm so happy that we're just getting this show. Foggy and Karen and Frank! I really hope these characters get a stronger resolution to their story.

(And then, maybe, my girl Jessica? Come on, Disney!)

queenslayerbee: Isabelle Adjany as Lucy Harker in 1979's "Nosferatu the Vampire". She's surrounded by darkness, looking over her shoulder while she wears a white nightgown and a cross as a necklace. A hand with long nails like a claw is reaching for her neck from the darkness behind her. (Default)

"Now where is my girl Elektra...." is basically where I'm at lol. To be frank, I have no interest in watching if she's not in it *shrugs*

Great icon, btw! I love those two.
