My Comments: This fanvid is among my favorites. Set to "Adiemus", it's a quick look throughout the seasons and the story journey these characters go through, using clips from the miniseries all the way to the series finale in just four minutes. I like the way the vidder did it, it's quick cutting these select scenes from each season in chronological order. I remember downloading this video years ago when it was posted on LJ, and it still remains a favorite, and I'm glad to find it uploaded on YouTube to share with you all.

This year marks the 20th anniversary since the Ronald D. Moore's re-imagined Battlestar Galactica premiered, which the cast reunited at a convention to celebrate. It's honestly hard to believe it's been twenty years already.
Battlestar Galactica is perhaps my favorite science fiction (space opera) television series, and remains among my top favorite shows of all time. I remember getting into it during the middle of its initial run, I didn't think I would be that into it when I first heard about it, but the more I watched the more sucked in I got into the story and the characters. Even before watching the show I saw images online of Number Six (Tricia Helfer) and Sharon (Grace Park) and knew instantly that they would be my favorite characters, and I was right. But truly, there were a lot of characters on BSG that I ended up loving, and the way the story itself was structured I ended up falling in love with what was going on.
While we've been over-saturated with reboots in this day and age to the point that it's exhausting and we roll our eyes whenever a new one is announced, back when this show premiered it was a massive risk and despite initial pushback from hardcore fans of the original show it actually succeeded, exceeding a lot of expectations people had at the time. It respected the original and paid homage to it while doing its own thing, and it maintained itself through fantastic writing, phenomenal performances from an amazing ensemble cast, a gorgeously epic score composed by Bear McCreary, and pushing the envelope during a time when media was walking on eggshells. BSG premiered in a post-9/11 world during the Bush administration, and not many things in media were doing what BSG managed to do. Something I deeply appreciated about the show was that it didn't treat the audience like they were dumb. It didn't sugarcoat anything, it offered no easy answers and provided situations where it made you question and think for yourself. Having such an unflinching thought-provoking show that featured controversial topics yet didn't resort to shock value to make its point was, and still is, quite refreshing.
There is a reason why Battlestar Galactica got so much praise and was highly regarded, and although I wished the fandom had remained as big as it had been during when the showed aired I'm still glad that there's still at least some activity and people are continually discovering it and experiencing it for the first time. It did have a small resurgence during 2020 and I'm betting it'll have another one, considering the current event hellscape we're in. It is still quite relevant to this day.
Needless to say, this show changed my life. Nothing else has compared to what BSG delivered, the closest would probably be The Expanse.
