It seems kind of bizarre that we've entered this year. As I've seen elsewhere, it doesn't seem like a real year. It's something you'd see in a science fiction story where it's a distant future, and yet here we barely have flying cars like we were promised dammit.

++ And because it is the new year, this means that snowflake_challenge has fully been activated. I kinda participated last year for a few but didn't finish, but we'll see how I do this year. There's two entries already that I'll be answering today for the fandom snowflake challenge.

Day 01: Update your fandom information.

I have updated my profile. No major changes, just added a few more to my current fannish interests and obsessions list.

Day 02: In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

My Fannish Goals for 2024

01. Getting into some of the shows that have been on my "to watch" list for some time. This will depend a lot on my mental capacity of getting into something, because you can't force yourself to watch something new if you're not feeling that into it, but as I am willing to try at least five new shows that I've been interested in for a while. It might not be to completion, but just to check them out and test the waters.

02. Start participating more in community discussions, mostly on places like c_ent, which I'd been a passive commenter/lurker for some time, which is fine, but for someone who enjoys fannish conversations and interactions I've been severely lacking. So, my goal is to try to be more proactive and communicative with fandom communities, and just with fandom in general, this includes leaving comments on fanfic, fanart, and complimenting fanwork creators as a whole.

03. Post more about the fandoms I'm into, recommendation posts, and the like. I already kind of achieved that in a way with my Fanvid Fridays that I started late last year, along with making the occasional post here and there about a specific new thing, but I kind of want to do a bit more than that. It's one thing to do reviews, but sometimes I think about writing and organizing posts dedicated to a particular show, or a character or pairing. It's something I've thought about doing for a while, actually, it's just a matter of figuring out how to go about it especially since it takes a lot of time and effort to make a simple write-up. But I do have ideas, and my goal is to at least make the effort of attempting this some time this year.

It really doesn't. I know that as the years go on it'll continue to feel that way. Passage of time is weird, but at least people acknowledge this and are making jokes about it.

It's funny how much like work getting started with a new show feels at times. I hope you find at least one that suits your tastes perfectly this year.

Agreed about 2024 just sounding kind of surreal as a year. (Even more surreal: the fact that there are now humans old enough to hold advanced degrees who never lived in a time when the year wasn't 20XX, and who thus probably don't think 2024 sounds like the future at all.)

The passage of time truly fucks with your mind when you put all of that into perspective, it's wild.

Thank you. :) I'm going to try and at least achieve one if not all of them. I'm also not going to treat it like a chore but more of something to motivate myself because it's something I want to do.

Yeah, it's like you have to mentally and emotionally prepare yourself to potentially get invested in a story. It's ridiculous, but for someone like myself I do need to be in the right headspace before diving into something new, even if it's something that I've been interested in for a while. But I do hope that this year will be a bit better for me with trying different shows.

Thank you! I'm definitely trying to become more proactive with my fannish interests. I spend a lot of time mulling over posts I want to do rather than just, y'know, doing them. So I hope we both achieve our goals of posting more fandom stuff this year.
