Fanvid Friday: Crazy Jane (Doom Patrol)

My Comments: To celebrate of Doom Patrol returning with its last handful of episodes of its fourth and final season, I wanted to share a couple of fanvids centering around one of my favorite characters, Jane (aka Crazy Jane) one of the many personas and the primary of Kay Challis. There aren't that many fanvids that really demonstrate the chaotic and yet devastating nature of her character, and I think these two really do kind of showcase the duality of it all. The first one focuses entirely on the heartbreaking and traumatic nature of Jane and her (and the other personas') job of protecting Kay, and the struggles that Jane goes through with maintaining that level of control as primary. I think the use of "Control" by Halsey is perfect for this character. The second video is more or less a lighthearted and fun one (disregard the opening song/intro by the vidder, it has nothing to do with the vid itself), showing the different personalities and just the attitude of her character overall that is fitting with the chaoticness of the show itself at times. It's shorter than the first, but I really like the editing style a whole lot.

(Note: these fanvids mostly center around the first season, so there aren't any spoilers beyond that.)

In general, I will say that Diane Guerrero has done a magnificent job in this role, it displays her talent very well, along with her understanding the assignment as this is perhaps the best portrayal of dissociative identity disorder (DID) I've seen depicted in media.

Excellent vids! I don't watch this show, but I've heard good things about the DID rep, which is a miracle because Hollywood tends to only use DID when it comes to serial killers. D:

There's very limited DID media portrayal in general, and what little we have oftentimes either is filled with outdated inaccuracies or vilifying the condition and those who suffer from it. (Mental illness in general is often vilified in media, especially the ones that are lesser known and viewed as "scary" and "dangerous" when it's just misunderstood by the masses.) But Doom Patrol at least manages to try and make the effort to understand the condition and portray it accurately as possible....considering it is, y'know, the whole superpower stuff. It does that a lot with other things, too, with many of the characters suffering from disabilities of some sort and it's a huge factor into the story and how they're dealing with things.
