Some late night thoughts.

I remember someone not too long ago was musing about the possible Lord of the Rings to The Untamed (and other wuxia/xianxia cdramas) fandom pipeline and how the two overlap, and I have to say I can definitely see that. Pretty men with long hair, men who are emotionally vulnerable with each other, gorgeous costumes and sets, the fantastical elements, the fact that you can actually see what is happening. So yeah, it makes sense. Also, it honestly makes me want a cdrama version of Tolkien's work, if not a direct adaptation then something inspired by or based around his stories. If nothing else, it they would absolutely nail the visuals and aesthetics, not to mention the character melodrama.

Additionally, I also think that there's a Firefly to wuxia/xianxia pipeline as well, because although they most likely butchered the language the show did introduce certain Mandarin words and phrases, such as "bì zuǐ", "xièxie", and "mèimei", that one can know instantly when first starting cdramas, and the more you watch the more you pick up, and before you know it you'll be the one correcting the English subtitles because you know that's not what they really said. But perhaps that's just me.

(As a sidenote, I'm sad that River never says "gege" to Simon, especially since he calls her "mèimei" numerous times, but I digress.)

Yes! I saw that a little while ago, and I just love this whole concept, it's so cool and definitely beautiful.

I'm definitely one of those people whose only Chinese words they know are from Firefly. xD At least until I started watching Guardian. :D (Which I really want to go back to because I missed 3 (?) weeks of the re-watch. D: I found it really hard to catch up on anything for a few weeks so something had to give. :()

I knew some before, but it wasn't until I got into The Untamed where I started hearing the familiar words used in Firefly, and in a way it made me listen more closely not just to the language to learn more from it but also to see how accurate the Firefly cast was at speaking and saying the stuff they did, lol.

(To be fair to them, they had a limited time to learn the words and phrases alongside their regular lines, and learning another language is hard.)

I agree with both of these notions. The costumes and things in cdramas (and kdramas) are already SO amazing.....

Have you watched Space Sweepers? Totally some Firefly vibe, but also just excellent story on it's own merits.

Seriously, it's always so elaborate, just imagine what they could do with anything Middle-earth related.

Space Sweepers has been on my list of things to watch. I really like the vibes I get from it, and the cast looks great. Also, it has Richard Armitage in it, which is mainly how I knew about it in the first place. ;)
