Day 5: A movie you wished you'd seen on opening night
I think we can all agree that The Empire Strikes Back is a pretty common answer simply for the reveal at the end, it would've been sweet to see people's honest reactions when that premiered, like I am very curious to know how a jam-packed theater reacted when that happened. However, my actual answer would have to be Scream (1996), mainly because I want to have that experience with the audience and witnessing their reactions to the typical narrative beats of the story and how the movie subverts and plays with them. Scream undoubtedly changed the game when it came to horror when it came out, so it would've been fascinating to see how people reacted to it at the time.
Day 6 and Day 7: A movie you've seen the most times / A movie you know by heart
I decided to put these questions together because they're mostly the same thing. My answer is practically almost all my favorite movies. I'm the kind of person that if I like something I'll rewatch it ad nauseum, so I've rewatched so many things and I know so many things by heart by now.
Day 8: Favorite sports movie
Stick It! It's one of those feel-good movies for me (and also very underrated, imho), focusing entirely on gymnastics in a fun lighthearted way, but it's also very good at showing how difficult and physically demanding gymnastics is, not to mention how unfair the judging is for such a sport like that. Also the soundtrack for the movie is amazing.
I realized, when answering this particular one, that I have watched quite a handful of sports movies though most probably wouldn't categorize them as such even if they are a subcategory of the sport genre.
Day 9: Great car chase scene in a movie
I feel like this is somewhat cheating, but Mad Max: Fury Road is probably the epitome of being one long car chase that never, ever gets boring. The way they filmed it, the way it becomes circular in going to Point A to Point B, and then turning around to going back to Point A again, and how the ones escaping the pursuit ends up pursuing those who were chasing them. It's just so exciting and it still blows me away.

++ The whole situation with the HBO Max/Discovery merger is one massive clusterfuck, and I mostly just feel horrible for the creators and everyone else who worked on the projects that are getting royally fucked over by the poor decisions being made. I don't think this is going to work in favor of whoever is in charge now who is basically tanking these things for so-called tax write-offs, if the controversy and backlash surrounding it is anything to go by. Although this just reaffirms the fact that streaming wars is utterly stupid, and that the lack of physical media is going to kill the industry because of it.
++ So, I'm going to reserve judgment until I actually see it in its entirety, but just from the small teaser we got of the live-action The Last Of Us show, Pedro Pascal sounds almost exactly like Joel from the games, just the gruffness of his voice. Like, regardless of how the show turns out, I think Pedro as Joel is fantastic casting.

Date: 2022-08-25 03:54 am (UTC)Related: I hope the writers of Our Flag Means Death have written a season 2 that could be a satisfactory show ending, in light of all the HBO stuff. Originally, they said they could tell their story in 2 or 3 seasons, and I'm kind of hoping it all ends in 2 now.
I'm really looking forward to The Last of Us. I'm just not into gaming (even watching play-throughs on YouTube) but I know The Last of Us has an amazing story, so I'm looking forward to seeing the story!

Date: 2022-08-25 09:46 pm (UTC)I'm a huge fan of The Last Of Us, they are of my favorite video game franchises. The story is just absolutely brilliant, emotional and heart-wrenching and just so beautiful, so while I'm still apprehensive and hesitant about how the live-action show is going to do I'm still pretty pumped nonetheless to see how they adapt the story. I do think that the game does a fantastic job with the narrative beats, especially in regards to the gameplay elements that add to the immersion, which obviously won't work for a television adaptation, but it makes me curious to see how they do things, if that makes sense.

Date: 2022-08-25 05:46 pm (UTC)I've never seen Mad Max! I need to. (Like I've been saying over the past decade or so.) Actually, I don't watch that many movies, period. (I love movies but I'm more of a social viewer? I watch movies as a group activity.)
Not sure what the HBO mess is exactly, but it sounds ugly. :/

Date: 2022-08-25 07:13 pm (UTC)Mad Max: Fury Road was such an unexpected pleasant surprise for me, it wasn't a movie I had intended on seeing at the time but those among my online circles were talking about it positively that I was curious enough to check it out. I saw it in the theaters and was immediately in love with it. Now, I haven't even seen any of the other previous Mad Max films, but you don't have to in order to watch Fury Road. It was such a wild ride. I hope that one day you'll be able to watch it.
I'm kind of the opposite when it comes to movies, while I do enjoy watching them with other people, I also like watching by myself even if watching with a group isn't an option. And I'll be honest, I haven't been to the movie theaters in a long time, even before the pandemic hit, which is quite sad since I used to go see movies in the theater a lot when I was in my teens and early twenties.
Not sure what the HBO mess is exactly, but it sounds ugly. :/
The new owner of the merger between both services is basically just wanting to get rid of all content on there, mostly original content, basically fucking over many people who were blindsided by this abrupt decision. It's a clusterfuck and it's not going to end well. :/
