Day 3: A good movie made before 1970

While "good" is rather subjective, for my answer I would have to say it's a tie between The Sound Of Music (1965) and Hans Christian Andersen (1952). Both of these films were not only a part of my childhood but were also influential and made quite an impression on me at such a young age. The Sound Of Music imprinted me with so much from the music to the romance between Maria and Captain von Trapp, and Hans Christian Andersen got me interested in ballet, thus getting me more into dancing in general.

I love Sound of Music. The songs are very memorable, and it's one that can be watched again and again and gain more understanding. I know I did not really appreciate the setting when I first saw it.

Yeah, same. I rewatched The Sound of Music over and over as a kid (when it was two VHS tapes, due to how long it is), and it's true that you better understand the context of the setting, the weight of what was happening. It's really nice to go back to something and notice those details that you didn't catch when you were younger.

The Sound Of Music is such an interesting phenomenon to me. Every American knows and loves this movie, but it is basically unknown in Europe.

That is rather interesting. While I have absolutely no idea what is considered popular or not (here or elsewhere), I always got the impression that The Sound Of Music was, if not popular then certainly known in other parts of the world, at least. Of course with anything, what we perceive as popular where we live might not be as popular or well-known any place else, which is an interesting way of gaining a different kind of perspective outside of our own bubble.

I love Sound of Music! I remember watching it every year growing up during the Easter season! Julie Andrews is so great in it!
