Fandom life.
Jun. 5th, 2021 11:07 amTaken from this question meme:
What's changed about your fandom life in the last 365 days?
I've been getting into a lot of Asian dramas lately. I've watched Asian dramas in the past, though they weren't as easily accessible as they are now, at least where I am (a lot of them are getting international exposure on Netflix, and full episodes are readily available with English translations on YouTube). So with that, I've been delving more into those kinds of fandoms lately. Most of this started with getting into The Untamed last year and it has spiraled from there, especially since I started checking out other dramas some of the actors have been in and other recommendations that have come out of it. It's partially due to feeling rather meh with Western media lately that I wanted to try something new and different, but mostly I've been interested in some of them for quite some time and wanted to finally dip my toe into them. Plus, it's been fascinating and also educational getting into fandoms of other cultures (ex: the language and translation issues, the differences between Western fandoms and Asian fandoms and how to enter and engage with a fandom that is of another culture than yours, etc).
That's definitely the biggest change over the last year or so. Otherwise, my fandom life hasn't really changed all that much, aside from perhaps becoming more active on Tumblr and finding a new kind of, "fuck it, let me reblog the things that I like who cares" mentality.

I've hated this rise of such a moral panic, but even I was somewhat hesitant to share things I loved in fear of those kinds of people harassing me. But now? I've truly inhabited the "do not give a fuck" mentality, and it's definitely freeing. :D
