++ Gina Carano has been fired from LucasFilms/The Mandalorian, and her agency has dropped her as well. I'm surprised it took them this long to do something, considering that she was very public with her vile and bigoted tweets from the controversial explosion last year. While I liked Cara Dune well enough, I didn't have a strong attachment to the character so I'm not that torn up about it. I know that there's a lack of muscular women in media who not only look like but can fight and kick ass, and that was amazing to see that on The Mandalorian, but this is the price for not acting a damn fool online and thinking you can get away with it. I don't know what's going to happen with the Cara Dune series they were planning, if they're going to recast or not do it at all. Not that we need it, to be honest, since there's far too many things lined up anyway. But either way, good riddance.

++ Pedro Pascal has been cast to play Joel for the live-action television adaptation of The Last Of Us! Along with the young actress who played Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones as Ellie. I have to admit, I'm pleasantly surprised by this news. This also is very on brand for him, because he seems to be playing the single dad roles in projects lately and this is the most single dad of single dads. I approve immensely.

I'm still slightly wary of how they're to adapt the game in itself, since it's very immerse as it is and there is a delicate balance to have with the beats of the story, but I know that this is another medium that will expose people who aren't gamers into the story so I'll have to keep an open-mind when it comes to that. I do think some fans are getting too worked up over the casting decisions, as in wanting actors who looked like the characters, but I think if you cast solely on looks alone that's where things can sometimes fall apart. If an actor can act the part and totally immerse themselves and disappear into the role than what they look like doesn't matter. Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson will always be Joel and Ellie, they made the characters what they are in the game and did they so much hard work, but this is another take on the characters so we'll see how it goes.

(I also hope that Pedro doesn't get pressured to beef himself up for the role though, because Joel isn't a muscular action kind of character, he's fit enough but he's also much older and has his limits. I just worry because it looks like Pedro is becoming a breakout star and this can unfortunately mean more pressure by the industry to shape him to be whatever they want, so I hope that regardless he takes care of himself.)

++ It looks like Brooklyn Nine-Nine is ending, that their upcoming season will be their last and it'll have only ten episodes. It's a bummer, but they had a good run, and I think it's a good time to end things. I know that they have rewritten the upcoming season in light of the protests of police brutality that happened last year, so it'll be interesting to see what they've done and how the show will conclude.

Nooooo omg that is so terrible about B99! :( That show gives me so much joy...and it's literally the only network show I watch at this point.

I hope they do wrap things up satisfactorily, but still, seasons always go by too fast as it is.

I mean, the show had a good run. It was saved from cancellation (pretty damn quickly, too) and has eight seasons, that's more than a lot of shows get. It's an enjoyable show and I'll miss it for sure, but I think it's time, imho.

I was so disappointed when a friend told me what Gina had been up to 😞
It’s a bitter pill to swallow finding out someone you like is a tosser in real life 🤦♀️
I’m glad Pedro is getting more work tho, he’s so so so lovely and a total sweetheart in real life ❤️

I wish we could get another Oscar and Pedro collaboration 😻

While I'm not a fan of hers, I do feel sorry for those who were who ended up being disappointed in finding out about her bigoted views, and how unbothered she was with displaying that publicly on social media. It sucks when someone you admire or are a fan of is revealed to not be as upstanding as they presented themselves to be, or how your perception of them was based on that.

I'm sure we'll get another Oscar and Pedro collaboration in the future. :)

Believe me, I know. Besides JKR and Joss Whedon recently, I experienced this with my thesis advisor, who is a fairly well-known scifi-fantasy author, in the most personal way a few years ago, and it's still painful, especially because the university didn't do anything about it and most people still only know her façade.

At first, I could just ignore it. There are many stupid, and unfortunately bigoted, people on the internet, but it got really too much lately. All she had to do was to shut up. How hard can that be!?

I don't really know anything about the game, so I'm just glad to see Pedro Pascal get cast :D
Such a stark contrast. Gina getting fired and Pedro gets headlines for supporting his sister and getting a pretty big role on HBO.

I'm sad that B99 was canceled and that it ends with a short season, but I suppose it's time, especially in the current climate. I kinda wish we could get a new show for the same cast, but I always say that.

It seems that social media has made certain people bolder in expressing their hateful views and thinking that there won't be any consequences (because in their minds it's freedom of speech, or something like that), and really so many have been caught because they pretty much tattle on themselves by revealing so much of their bigotry. It's really amazing how she played herself in that sense.

The Last Of Us is one of my favorite video games, the story is heartbreaking and phenomenal. It makes me very overjoyed that Pedro has been cast in it, playing one of the major main characters! :D

B99 is just ending, not being cancelled, and while it's a bummer since it was a delightful little show, I think it's the right decision. And honestly, it had a good run. Eight seasons is nothing to sneeze at.

It's amazing how many people misunderstand the right to freedom of speech.

B99 S7 just appeared on Netflix France at the beginning of this week, so I don't know when I'll be able to see S8. Still, I trust them to do things well. They've never disappointed me so far.

I think they'll deliver. The show is funny and it has managed to tackle serious issues pretty well, so I have no doubt they'll give us a good final season and series finale. I hope they do, anyway.

I didn't watch The Mandalorian yet, but I know the actress from some pictures/screenshots. Yesterday I have read what she posted to the web (anti-vaxxer, homophobe, trump-supporter and more) and I was kinda shocked.
For me it feels good that such a person was fired. :o
Posting (and thinking) something like that is such a No-Go.

And of course I didn't play 'The Last of Us', but I really want to watch the series. And it makes me so happy to read that Pedro got the role. I think, he will do a great job. :)

I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner once all of that happened last year, but I figured that there must've been some kind of red tape issues or something, or like a warning or strike system, but the more she continued the less likely she was going to be protected and her latest antics was the final straw. Still, I'm glad that they finally did something.

The game is so good, and you can watch the cinematic cutscenes on YouTube to get a better grip of the story, which is very emotional and character-driven (which is why I love it so much), and while I'm tentative of how the adaptation will be I'm still delighted that they got Pedro as Joel. I have no doubt he'll do a fantastic job, and I really cannot wait to see his rendition of the character. :D

I'm sorry the final season'll be so short, but yeah, I think this is a good place to wrap up. I trust that they'll do the show justice. I was never a huge fan after the first few seasons, but I'm intrigued nonetheless.

The show will then have eight seasons, which is a good run. I think they're aware of the climate right now and how they want to conclude the show on the right note. I'm hoping it delivers.

Good riddance. Answers should have consequences.

If you mean Rangers of the New Republic, it was never said to be about Cara Dunne specifically.

I saw the new about B99 and I'm glad they are getting to go out on their terms and plan the ending in a way that will be sensitive to the real world. It is a smart show and a funny show and I hope they can go out with a finale that will solidify it in the hall of comedy classics.

My thoughts exactly. I know there's been lots of debates surrounding the show, and cop shows in general, about the way things are approached and whether to address real world events or not. B99 is funny but also smart and knows how to handle certain subject matters, and I think them rewriting their final season to fit into what happened last year and ending the show on their own terms is a wise decision.

I have no idea what Gina was thinking in terms of her actual career. I can't make someone not be hateful, I can't make them less ignorant if they're choosing to be ignorant. All she had to do was keep her mouth shut and she'd have kept a really decent job that likely would have led to more work. Instead she chose to be hateful over staying employed. She knew what the options were.

I'm still in early seasons of B99. I really respect them deciding to end the show and also trying to address police brutality. They're a show that does punching up style comedy really well so I think they'll go out on a good note.

Most people like that tend to think that they have the right to "free speech", especially on social media, like they get bold thinking that they are protected by that or whatever. Except freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom of consequence, and she reaped what she sowed when she didn't stop when she was told to. She definitely knew what the options were, she knew what was at stake, and she did it anyway. Regardless, I'm glad that she's gone.

It's a bummer for B99 fans, but with the conversation surrounding cop shows (and copaganda in general) has really influenced this decision and I think they're wise to end things.
