++ Daniel Radcliffe released a heartwarming and classy statement in response to JKR's transphobic remarks. I'm very happy that he spoke out, and I loved his overall message reassuring fans who felt hurt and heartbroken that they matter. Apparently other cast members of the films are speaking out as well, from Daniel and Katie Leung to Eddie Redmayne (even though he took on a trans role which could've been given to a trans actor instead, which he hasn't yet apologized for). Unfortunately, it seems that JKR is doubling down hard on her stance, but at least we know that others (especially known public figures) are showing support and standing in solidarity with the trans community in light of all of this, so let us focus on that positive instead of the negative.

++ In more lighthearted news, we finally have the trailer for the second season of Doom Patrol, which will premiere on June 25th. In times like these we need something that is less serious and bleak and more ridiculous and absolutely bonkers, and this show is that in spades. So yeah, I cannot wait for the new season.

++ Jenny Nicholson made a video where watched and ranked The Land Before Time franchise, all 14 movies. I grew up with the first The Land Before Time, and I did watch several of the direct-to-video sequels, however I wasn't aware that there have been fourteen of them made. Granted I did grow out of them as I got older, and I can't even remember the last movie that I ever watched. I just remember the first few aside from the original. But as soon as I saw her video pop up, I instantly was hit with a wave of nostalgia because that's my childhood and I immediately clicked to watch. I enjoy her breaking down from the worst to the best, pinpointing the flaws a number of them had that I didn't catch when I was younger because, well, I was a kid. Either way, it was entertaining, and it was interesting looking at someone else's fresh take after marathoning all fourteen movies one right after the other.

I saw that too, yeah. Other HP actors are speaking out on this, and other celebrities and well-known actors of non-HP association as well. It's really good to see, a nice contrast to the garbage that JKR has spewed.

I love that Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson spoke up about it. All that's left of the main trio is Rupert Grint. *patiently waits*

I follow Jenny Nicholson on Twitter, but I haven't seen her video on The Land Before Time yet - the nostalgia will literally kill me XD

I don't expect all of the cast to speak out, but it's nice to see that some are.

All of these instances with JKR are why living in the age of social media is a curse. I know writers aren't always their work but.. damn sometimes being blissfully in the dark about things like that hurt a lot less! I'm not even a hardcore HP stan but I can only imagine how much more disappointment that fandom can take.

There are times when I wished that JKR had just remained silent, and had just kept herself away from social media altogether so we didn't have to deal with her messiness. However, this wouldn't have erased the horribleness of her backward views. People have long called out her other forms of bigotry for years, and while I know most wished she would've just kept her mouth shut at least there's no denying her willful ignorance. It's out there now, plain and day, and she did that to herself.

It's disappointing to see an author you used to like be revealed as such, but it's better we know so we don't have to take everything she says to heart. Because it'll come from a place of hate instead of compassion. And knowing how many fans of the HP series are of the LGBT community, they deserve better.

He really is. :) He's always supported LGBT rights, so reading his very eloquent and heartfelt message made me very happy.

Yeah, same. I'm hoping that trans fans, especially young trans fans, find comfort knowing that these actors (and others) are showing and offering their support instead of focusing on the hate JKR is spreading.

I think Daniel has always been a big supporter of the LGBT+ community. Like you said, his response is very classy.

It took me a while until I watched the first season, but I'm really looking forward to more Doom Patrol :D

Yes, indeed he has. He has contributed a lot and works with the Trevor Project, which is why his letter is written and posted on their website. He's always been a supporter and ally of the LGBT community, so it makes me happy to see him speak out and show his support for the trans community.

Doom Patrol is such a fun and unique show, it isn't afraid of going balls-to-the-wall ridiculous and I love it for that. :D

I'm hoping so, too. I'm hoping that they can focus on the support of the actors, and others too, instead of the vile things JKR and other transphobes are saying right now. It makes me so sad and disheartened thinking about what trans fans, especially young trans fans, are going through knowing that an author of a series that they hold dear to their hearts is so filled with hate for them.

I love it that Dan and the others spoke about it. That's so important. ♥

Oh my god, The Land before Time. I watched the movies when I was a child and I cried so, so much when the Dinosaur lost his family.

Seeing so many speak out against JKR (whether directly or indirectly) warms my heart. I like seeing them show their support and stand in solidarity with the trans community, even though this isn't really the circumstances where it should've happened, it's still important regardless.

I watched the first The Land Before Time many times as a kid, and it was one of the defining movies of my childhood. The sequels were okay too, less bleak than the original movie, though watching Jenny's videos I didn't realize how much I had forgotten about the contents of some of them. I definitely mostly rewatched the first four, but I don't remember the rest, probably because I kinda stopped caring and was gradually growing out of them. I didn't realize how many there were, with the possibility of the franchise to continue on with more in the near future.

Eddie Redmayne's statement is good but yeah,my first thought was "But have you ever apologized for doing The Danish Girl?" (he is sooooo terrible in that movie. In addition to him taking a role that should have gone to a trans woman obviously)
I'm chosing to focus on the support from others to the trans community instead instead of on that super transphobic manifesto the evil witch wrote!

I'm so excited for Doom Patrol. I don't think I ever watched something so completely bonkers like the first season but in a good way of course lol

Not gonna lie, when I saw he made a statement I was half hoping that he would address that or make a sincere apology for. I mean, I'm glad that he's showing support for the trans community regardless because it's definitely needed, but I think his credibility would go up a bit more if he actually did take accountability for that.

Even though I have unfortunately seen some who agree with JKR's manifesto, there's been so much more support for the trans community and that makes me incredibly happy.

Same! Just watching the trailer for S2 made me smile so much, so much weird wackiness and I cannot wait to see this small dysfunctional found family get into more bizarre shenanigans. :D

I love Jenny so effing much. Hers and Lindsay Ellis' videos and twitters are the only thing getting me through these hard times sometimes.

I didn't even realize there were 14 either! I remember enjoying the first one as a kid and my brother and I also had some of those direct-to-videos. It's always really interesting going back to some of the media you loved as a kid with your adult eyes and being like "oh man this is still excellent" or "oh man I didn't realize how problematic this stuff was" lol

JKR is an absolute garbage person. DanRad's letter was so lovely and I've been glad to see the support for all trans rights throughout at least some of my friend and media spheres. It's been such a tough, tough month.

I know, and it's something I'm fascinated by because a lot of the time it's a product of the era it was made in reflecting a lot of the political and social climate of that time, or seen as progressive for the time even if by today's standards isn't, or simply was just offensive no matter how much you spin it. There are also things that were definitely ahead of their time that still hold up. It's interesting to look at something from your childhood and realize that they could never get away with something like that nowadays.

While there's unfortunately some who agree with JKR's horrific stance, I've seen way more showing their support of trans rights, which is definitely a huge positive thing to focus on especially with everything going on right now.

So glad that the kids from Harry Potter all seem to have turned out to be great adults. JK Rowling is disappointing.

I really think her history with abuse is what's made her unable to be open minded but that's not an excuse. She could seek out more therapy or find more ways to educate herself OR just stop spreading hateful lies about a vulnerable community of people. I sent a letter into her website in response to her essay. I don't think it'll do much but I couldn't not say anything.

I loved the original Land Before Time and then babysat a kid who was obsessed with the film series when there were 6 of them. I hadn't realize how many more got made!

Same. It's good to see that kind of solidarity in something positive, instead of negative.

I really think her history with abuse is what's made her unable to be open minded but that's not an excuse.

That's what I concluded, too. And I agree wholeheartedly with everything that you said there. While it's horrible what she went through with being abused, that does not give her the right to abuse others in turn, never mind to use what she went through as a shield to justify spreading hate and harmful messages without properly educating herself on these subjects. This is definitely an issue she needs to work out privately in therapy, not publicly on a massive platform.

I sent a letter into her website in response to her essay. I don't think it'll do much but I couldn't not say anything.

Sadly, I think she'll view anyone who offers criticism, even constructively, on her essay/beliefs/views as a personal attack against her, and it'll just fall on deaf ears. :/

Honestly, the whole thing has been so upsetting.

I loved the original Land Before Time and then babysat a kid who was obsessed with the film series when there were 6 of them. I hadn't realize how many more got made!

There's also a television series too, from what I learned. I didn't realize that the franchise had grown so big!
