++ There's now a new update from the Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency petition to request a third season from Hulu. I don't know what spurred this update, possibly because other shows have been getting saved by other means, so perhaps this was something to take a chance on. Again, nothing is guaranteed, but we've seen small miracles happen before so who knows what might come of this, if anything at all. So go ye forth and sign and spread it around, if you're so inclined.

++ Dear White People has been renewed for a third season, which is awesome. I've actually just gotten into this Netflix show, which I'll be talking about sometime in the near future.

++ The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas has been the most talked about book since last year, and has now been adapted into a feature film starring Amandla Stenberg. There's a good reason why this has been highly anticipated, since the story focuses on the prejudices and racial discrimination against black people here in America, especially in regards to police brutality. It's a very serious subject matter that is still an ongoing issue today, and having a story like this is incredibly important to tell. I haven't read the book yet, though it's been on my list of things I need to get to soon, but already the trailer for the movie looks powerful and emotional.

++ We have to first teaser trailer for Dumbo. I don't really have much to say on it, to be honest. These live-action adaptations of Disney animated films tend to be a hit-or-miss for me, and my dislike for Tim Burton doesn't really help either. Honestly, I'm mostly here for Colin Farrell, since his character seems to be the most interesting to me based on his description alone.

++ An important announcement was recently made in regards to the future of Critical Role, which basically is just that they have their own studio now! Before everything was being hosted at the Geek & Sundry studio, which is basically where they've been streaming since they first debuted years ago. Since everything they do is owned by them, their entire brand is basically just, well, them as they are playing the game as they normally would back home, it makes sense that they would want to have their own space where they can do whatever they want. I'm very happy for them because, while they got their start on G&S, it makes sense for them to move forward in this way especially since the community has gotten much bigger than they ever imagined. So, I'm very excited about where this could potentially go, what they have planned for future content, etc.

Tim Burton's Dumbo could be like his Alice in Wonderland films, which doesn't endear me. Although the second movie was very funny. It just wasn't supposed to be funny. :P (Although apparently some people liked it. No offense if you were one of those people. I just found a lot of things that were intended to be earnest unintentionally hilarious.)

I know nothing about Tim Burton as a person... is there something about him specifically you don't like? Or just his movies?

Mostly just his movies, to be honest (though his opinion on diversity (https://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/103510149.html) in films/media didn't help much either). I can understand where the initial praise came from during his earlier works, but over the last two decades or so his work has been severely lackluster, especially creatively. His movies always seem super uninteresting to me, tbh, especially recently with too much CGI and trying to be really ~wacky without much substance.

So don't worry, you didn't offend me with not liking his Alice In Wonderland movies. I didn't see them nor do I plan on doing so.

I haven’t read The Hate U Give but the movie looks so powerful and awesome. I’ll need to check out the book at some point.

The DGHDA fandom has been trying to save it for a while now (though when it was revealed that the creator of the show was accused of sexual assault, it led fans to believe that the show wouldn't be likely to be picked up unless someone else took the helm), so this update doesn't come as a surprise to me especially with all these surprise renewals after cancellations (as you mentioned, Lucifer being one of them). It's worth at least taking the chance. The louder and more proactive the fandom is, the more likely it might get noticed. Not always guaranteed, mind you, but definitely worth taking that chance.

And DGHDA is one of those shows that I discovered that intrigued me, because it's so weird and bizarre and yet endearing at the same time? It's a unique show that deserves another season, at least. I mean, S2 ended in a rather conclusive way, but at the same time it left the door open for more.

I think, I won't watch Dumbo. I saw the original as a child and I was seriously traumatized by the movie for weeks. I cried so much when Dumbo lost his mum and nobody liked him at first.
I can't even think of it without getting teary. So, nope, won't watch it.

See, I'm sort of the opposite since while I grew up with Dumbo, it did nothing for me? As in, I knew it was sad but it didn't really affect me as it probably did others. Granted, being a kid I watched a lot of fucked up traumatizing things, a lot of which I consider favorite parts of my childhood in a weird way, so perhaps it just affected me differently? But overall, it's completely understandable for those not wanting to watch something that made them sad as a kid.

For me, idk if I'm gonna watch it (at least in theaters) because I'm rather meh on Tim Burton movies and all these live-action Disney remakes in general. I'm only interested in it for Colin Farrell, that's basically it.

I keep seeing in stores and have been meaning to pick it up, but of course, that is just one of many books on my list that I want to buy. Story of my life, really. I will be picking it up shortly, though, because I do want to read it. Before or after watching the movie, it'll depend on my mood.
