And the devil has a halo....
Jun. 16th, 2018 03:10 pmLucifer has been picked up and saved by Netflix.
While I haven't seen the show in its entirety, it's been on my "to watch" list for some time now and I was legitimately shocked when FOX cancelled it, since I thought it was doing rather well for itself. So not only am I happy about this renewal, I'm also happy for the fans who campaigned and worked so hard to show their dedication and support of the show which certainly helped work towards negotiations.
As I mentioned previously, we live in a unique time where a combination of social media presence and the availability of different streaming services can possibly help save cancelled shows, depending on the amount of demand and noise there is which sadly can provide an unfair imbalance for smaller, lesser known shows that don't gain a lot of presence outside of their small but dedicated fandoms, which is a shame. While it still is a damn miracle when shows end up getting renewed after they are cancelled by a network, the fact that it's becoming more and more common to try and find a way of saving said show which is often spread through viral means that wasn't easily accessible many years ago is nevertheless amazing in its own right. First it was Brooklyn Nine-Nine and then The Expanse, both shows that had unique situations in their own right for being saved from canellation, and now Lucifer.
(Now, if there was a way to retroactively renew Sense8 and Dark Matter, that would not only be the icing on the cake but also the sweetest cherry on top, imho.)

Date: 2018-06-16 10:42 pm (UTC)Yessss. I was all over social media about it for a while, but I also didn't want to take over my followers feeds with Lucifer since most of them don't watch so I calmed down after a bit lol. It's amazing how much fans coming together on social media let's cancelled shows get the possibility of a second chance these days.
On the show itself, the last season was mostly a mess, but it pulled together by the end and produced some of the strongest episodes in the shows entire run so far. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes from here!

Date: 2018-06-17 01:32 am (UTC)I'm also glad that the CW didn't pick it up. It was an idea given how they kinda saved the character of Constantine after his show got cancelled from another network, but the CW ruins most good things they touch.
I've heard people had mixed feelings about the last season, so hopefully with the ten episode order on Netflix that it'll help the writers focus on the main plot and characters more.

Date: 2018-06-18 05:12 am (UTC)Oh, definitely. I can think of plenty of shows on certain networks that would thrive much better on other places if given the opportunity. And with the streaming services that give shows a second chance do, in fact, allow a bit more leniency which can be hugely beneficial to them on how to tell the story the way they want to.

Date: 2018-06-18 03:13 am (UTC)Yeah, which is unfortunate especially when you care about a lot of shows that end up getting unjustly cancelled for whatever reason, but that's just a sad reality many of us have to accept. Even though it's amazing that certain shows get to have the rare opportunity for a second chance, something that is still kind of a miracle even now, it is impossible to save all shows that end up getting unfairly cancelled. While that shouldn't stop fans from showing support and even attempt at campaigning, but we shouldn't set up high expectations for something that isn't always guaranteed.
Plus,I'm seeing it with Shadowhunters now how obnoxious some fans are!
Obnoxious fans are a sad thing to deal with in any fandom, especially in these situations. :/

Date: 2018-06-18 05:39 pm (UTC)And it seemed it all paid off! Granted I first heard some days ago that they were in talks with Amazon, but then a moment later it's revealed that Netflix had picked it up, so there was definitely negotiations happening regardless. So, yay! :D
As for Sense8, I know what you mean. They wrapped it up the best they could within two-and-a-half hours, but you could clearly see there was a lot more they wanted to tell and expand on, and definitely an opening for more stories to be told. I know that Lana has mentioned previously that she was writing a third season, and I don't care how desperate it sounds I absolutely want there to be another season, so so badly. I'm gonna will it to be so with you!

Date: 2018-06-19 05:47 pm (UTC)I was hoping I could buy a season pass like w/ the shows they don't own, but it doesn't look like they do that with prime shows. The shows that they bought from other networks do appear to hit dvd, unlike Man in the High Castle though, so there's always that to fall back on.

Date: 2018-06-20 01:04 pm (UTC)I suspect part of the reason why Dark Matter didn't get picked up by any other is because it's a pick and choose game? Sense8 I know was a financially based choice, and Amazon eventually grabbed The Expanse so.

Date: 2018-06-20 05:21 pm (UTC)In the entertainment industry it is practically all pick and choose for the potential breadwinner. It has been for a long time. It's just now that with other options available, especially with streaming, the competition has heightened about grabbing a recently cancelled show that they think will thrive better on one place instead of another.
