++ First of all, the Sense8 finale special has a premiere date: June 8th! It's gonna be bittersweet, but it's also something we didn't ever expect after the unexpected and unjust cancellation, so I'm happy we're getting this conclusion. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
++ We have the final trailer for Deadpool 2, and as always I'm very excited. I'm not having too much expectations going into this film because it'll be whatever it'll be, and I just wanna have fun and entertained and that is pretty much a guarantee. With that being said, I must marvel at how inclusive this film seems to be, with not only a diverse cast but also possible LGBT representation with its characters -- Negasonic with her rumored girlfriend who's featured alongside her in the trailers, we have the introduction to Shatterstar, and Deadpool himself is pansexual which I hope is addressed or mentioned in the movie itself. I know it's probably asking a lot especially from studios (which shouldn't even be an issue, tbh) but I don't want DP2 to disappoint and at least on giving us something along these lines.
++ The Crazy Rich Asians trailer dropped the other day, which while I haven't read the book I know that many have been looking forward to this for a long while now. I've seen some comments talking about how generic it looks, that it's your typical romcom plot, and I'm just sitting here like, that's the point. Having an all-Asian cast movie is very rare in Hollywood, especially with contemporary genres like romcoms, so while it might not be everyone's cup of tea this is a huge stepping stone in giving Asians more opportunities for having more films of different genres and stories. In fact, it is stated that this is the biggest movie that has featured an all Asian cast in Western media in over twenty-five years, which is far too long imho, but still is massively important. Representation matters, and this is one of the reasons why. We will have Crazy Rich Asians, and then we'll have the live-action Mulan which will hopefully be all-Asian too (there's no reason it shouldn't be, but you never know the bullshit Disney might try to pull). As someone who is half-Asian herself, seeing Asian representation is very important since very rarely do I see part of my heritage represented. While that is both a blessing and a curse for different reasons, I do want to get to a point where this shouldn't be considered "groundbreaking" but part of the norm. With all the blatant whitewashing in Hollywood and Asian actors having limited role opportunities and having to settle for the bare minimum, we deserve much better. Asians, and Asian-Americans in particular, exist of all different cultures and experiences, and our stories do matter.
++ When I went to the movie theater recently (for Tomb Raider because of Lara Croft, my love), our theaters have started doing the recliner lounging chairs for viewing movies now, which apparently is something that has started to gain more popularity over the years. I didn't realize this was widespread until recently, since I don't really go to see movies in theaters as much these days unless it's something I absolutely want to see. The last movie I saw in theaters before my most recent visit was Wonder Woman last year. I was a bit skeptical at first, not gonna lie, but once actually sitting in them I understood why it's become popular. Not only are they super comfortable and more spacious, but when it comes to reserved seating it's so much better and easier without stressing whether you'll get a good seat or not.
I know that there are probably specific reasons as for why this has become more regular in theaters now as opposed to before, and I know there are things that I do miss about previous theater experiences that no longer exist for whatever reason (midnight premiere events being one of them, for example, since it's become more common now for "midnight" showings to be shown earlier instead of actually at midnight) and I do wish prices weren't so expensive, but this simple change of seating has made my own experience in the theaters improve in a way I didn't realize I needed. Will I go to the theaters more often now because of it? Probably not, because like I said, I don't really go see movies that often anymore unless it's something I desperately want to see. But it's nice that it'll be a comfortable experience whenever I do, y'know?

Date: 2018-04-26 05:54 pm (UTC)I know there's rumors that there's a possibility of the show getting renewed, that Lana has already been writing a third season anyway regardless, which while it would be amazing if all of this were to happen, I don't want to get my hopes up for anything. I'll just be happy to see these characters again, and seeing this particular storyline (which was left off on a cliffhanger) completed.

This, absolutely.

Date: 2018-04-26 05:12 pm (UTC)Though I've been hearing rumors that Lana Wachowski has been writing a third season anyway and she's confident that there will be more Sense8 in the future. I mean, I don't want to get my hopes up or anything because if we're just getting this finale special than I'm happy with that, but you cannot deny there is something remarkable with how the fandom basically helped get this wrap-up finale to even exist. So who knows what may happen for the future of this show/this story.

Date: 2018-04-27 07:28 pm (UTC)And you can imagine the relief it is for people who have certain medical conditions or disabilities where sitting still in tiny, tight area for two to nearly three hours is damn impossible without shifting around constantly. So this is definitely an improvement, for sure.
There's now less seats because they take up so much more room but considering how few people go to see films at the cinema now, it's not been an issue so far.
I feel like theaters will have to revamp themselves entirely in order to expand individual auditoriums in order to fit more recliner seats. Since while having bigger and comfier chairs are amazing, it does take up more space in an area that was originally designed to have smaller seating to fit as many people as possible. So while theaters are taking out the old seats for the new, this is definitely something for them to consider, which I'm sure they have since this is a recent change and it'll take time and money to achieve this goal.

Looking forward to Deadpool, too. Funny scenes and a lot of action. I am so ready for it! XD

Date: 2018-04-30 08:36 pm (UTC)I've decided not to watch the last Deadpool Trailer...cause I don't want to know anything else about the movie. We'll see if I can manage to not watch it before the movie.
I think Crazy Rich Asians looks fun...and like you mentioned, it's not because it's a different romcom, but because it's ALL ASIANS that makes it so different! I'm pretty excited.

Date: 2018-05-07 12:27 am (UTC)I'm not sure how people aren't understanding that one of the points of Crazy Rich Asians is that it's exactly a normal rom com plot and we'll get to see that done with a cast that's not all white, or all white with one token friend of another race. It looks cute. I've not read the books either but the movie looks like one I'll probably watch on Netflix at some point :)
I love reserved seating in movies now! It takes all the stress out of having to arrive early for busy movies or trying to find seats together for a larger group of people. It's pretty fun :)

Yes, exactly! It's such a rarity in Hollywood to have an all-Asian cast in a contemporary genre like this. And I feel like some people are placing high expectations for it super different or unique and I'm like, why should it? Why can't we have just your typical romcom that features a lot of the same tropes and the same story as we've all seen just with an Asian cast? I've also seen people say that the plot is just like every Kdrama/Jdrama out there, and again, there is nothing wrong with that. The only difference is that this a major Hollywood movie.

Yeah, especially the larger group part. Hell, even if I was going to see a movie with even one another person, it would've been difficult at times to find seats that were right next to each other in the theater because people liked to space themselves out or leave only one seat available in an already full aisle, and you'd have to either settle for the worst seats or separate from one another, which sucked a lot. So reserved seating saves time and all of that hassle. It's just super convenient. :D
