++ I didn't watch the Oscars, I only paid attention to everyone reacting to it in real time, but I am so very happy that The Shape of Water won Best Picture. Part of me wishes that Get Out could have gotten it, as I feel like it deserved more wins (and it really would have stuck it to the Academy members who had really racist opinions about the film itself), but if there was to be another film to win instead anything by Guillermo del Toro would do. At least Get Out won for best original screenplay, which makes history as Jordan Peele is the first black person to win the award. The Shape of Water, Get Out, and Coco were the highlight wins of the event, which makes me happy.

++ The teaser for the second season of Luke Cage looks absolutely hype.

++ Krysten Ritter speculates that there won't be another season of The Defenders. I'm not even remotely surprised by this, considering how lukewarm and blah the first season was. The basic concept had potential but combined with the bad writing and execution of plot it just didn't deliver and was a huge letdown. Though I guess it served its purpose of getting the main characters together in some way, but it still could've been much better than it was. It's disappointing since it didn't take full advantage of the time they had, you know what I mean? At least now we can have them appearing and guesting in each other's respective shows.

++ We have a trailer for The Expanse S3 and it looks so good, I can't wait.

I would've honestly accepted and been happy with either The Shape of Water or Get Out as the winner, to be honest. In the end, I'm glad that The Shape of Water won all the awards that night. :)

I always get my Oscars news from other people and I love all the fashion coverage lmao. I wish Get Out won for best movie, but I'm also okay with The Shape of Water winning. Get Out should've won all the awards though.

I loved The Defenders so I'm a little sad that we likely won't get a second season. In the off chance we do, can they ditch Iron Fist? XD

Get Out deserved more recognition than it was given. I'm glad it won what it did, because it was rightfully earned, but it truly needed more nominations and to win more than it did that night. If anything, Daniel Kaluuya deserved to win for Best Actor.

I would only accept another season of The Defenders if they got a completely new showrunner, new writers, and ditch Danny Rand/Iron Fist and replace him with Colleen Wing as the fourth Defender instead. So, basically, for it to be nothing like what the first season was and to be what we deserved in the first place. But I doubt that will ever happen. The thing is, I liked the concept of what the show seemed to be but the execution was severely lacking and disappointing, imho. To be fair, I was only hyped up to see Jessica, Luke and Matt and some of the other supporting characters interacting with each other, but even that didn't get utilized as much as I wanted it to. Unfortunately, in the end it just didn't live up to the hype that we were promised and even with the interactions we did get I yearned for more, while they played up too much of The Hand/Iron Fist plot that I just didn't care about at all.

One would hope. There were some nice moments between the two of them in The Defenders, even if it was just brief, to kind of set that up for the possible future of them teaming up. Whether in their own show or not, that depends, but I really do want their own show, that would be amazing.

It really did! I was saddened by the negative responses people were having to it being nominated, and then there's the people who vote for the award winners who were nixing even watching it.

I second you there. They def had some major misteps, and I couldn't stand Iron Fist/Danny Rand the entire season.

And let's not forget Get Out being nominated in the Comedy/Musical category at the Golden Globes, for reasons I still don't know. This film has gone through the wringer of being insulted by people who just don't have a clue, which is devastating and frustrating to see. I'm happy it got the nominations/wins it did, but it deserved more. :/

YESSSSSS. I had an argument with someone who was claiming that I was wrong and that it was a comedy. I was like ummmm are we talking about the same movie?!

It honestly astonishes me that some would be that dense to even consider it a comedy, considering the content and how it was presented, which was absolutely a horror. Sure, there were some comedic moments here and there, but that doesn't mean it's classified as a comedy, ffs.

Yeah, my overall reaction to The Defenders was just, meh. It wasn't the most horrible thing ever, but it definitely could've been much better. I enjoyed the interactions that we got, but I was left with wanting more. And I'm still kinda bitter that they didn't have Claire interacting with everyone, considering she was the interconnecting link between all shows. Such wasted opportunity, tbh.

Thanks for the link about The Defenders. I had already been assuming that there won't be a second season, and I'm fine with that. I think they could and probably would improve a lot if it continued, but it would take resources and attention away from the solo series and at the moment I'm more interested in those. But apparently Luke and Misty are both going to appear on Iron Fist, and that I didn't know. Great news! Iron Fist still has a lot of potential, and crossovers are the best thing it has going for it.

Yeah, I agree. There probably would be room for improvement from the first season, but honestly, the entire purpose of the show was to get these characters together, which it more or less achieved. And getting them all together again would kind of disrupt their own storylines to fight another Big Bad together, which in theory is great, but we've seen how the writers handled The Hand and that's not something I want to experience again. I would much prefer them visiting each other on their own shows, because crossover potential is endless and I'm all about having them help each other own in their own storylines.

Ideally, the next time it happens will be in...like five years. And everyone will be shocked because we weren't expecting it, and the series will have such a history by then that the story really will seem epic.

This is very true, actually. Since it's taken this long for Jessica Jones S2 to come out since it first premiered, I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to actually do another season of The Defenders further down the line after all the others ended up having at least two more seasons of their own respective shows, not to mention having probably crossed over with each other numerous times. At least by then, I would hope, that they would have had enough time to gather new people (showrunner, writers, etc) and improve what failed from the first season.

I'm going to see The Shape of Water soon and I'm very happy for it, but I agree with you about Get Out. It was so good, but hopefully its reception- the fact that it was nominated at all- is a good sign for what's to come.

There are times when good horror/thrillers come around that are so unique and smart and different from anything we've seen that deserves more attention, and Get Out was one of them. I'm happy it won for Best Original Screenplay, because the story was done amazingly well and it was rightfully deserved, but I do wish the movie had won a lot more. I'm hoping that it'll get more recognition, even if it's done retroactively.

Still haven't watched S2 of "The Expanse" but kind of really think I should now since I heard Elizabeth Mitchell is going to be in S3 and that I'd really like to see.

As for "The Defenders", I found some character interactions more interesting than others, not sure they convinced me as a team. It seemed like Matt and Jessica were separate but kind of on the same page, what connected Jessica and Luke was mostly history and yes there was some sort of connection between Luke and Danny that was mostly forced by Claire and Colleen. It wasn't very organic and probably wasn't intended to be either.

I'm just going through The Expanse again and it's such amazing scifi. I actually really want to read the books, too.

I found some character interactions more interesting than others, not sure they convinced me as a team.

Yeah, I think that's one of my issues with the show as well. They were very underdeveloped as being a team. We got them together, and some of the bonds are stronger than others (Jessica and Luke already knew each other, Jessica and Matt was beginning to blossom into an interesting friendship there that I liked seeing in their interactions), but as a whole I wish we'd gotten more for them to make sense in the end of them forming a bond like a team. The whole Danny and Luke thing was definitely very forced and, even if it wasn't meant to be organic it still bothered me. Danny just didn't fit in and even if that was intentional, he just didn't click with anyone and created more problems with the group than anything else. I don't know. Again, this is one of the things where I wished there was more time to actually show them building up that trust and bond with each other. More time with that and less time with The Hand stuff. Such a wasted opportunity.

I think they had to do that, no matter the lack of chemistry, because a large part of the audience was expecting it given the comics where if I recall correctly Luke is Power Man and Danny obviously Iron Fist and they come as a kind of package. Idk. I know it's an unpopular opinion but I don't care much for "Luke Cage" either – I find myself interested in Misty and Claire, I liked the inital set up with the barber shop but then it got lengthy, especially after Cottonmouth's death. And I was never sold on Luke as the carrying lead. Of course "Iron Fist" was so much worse – currently the only thing that has me mildly interested in it still is, is Madam Gao alive and will Joy team up with her?

Ultimately, I'm just excited because "Jessica Jones" is finally back and then there are these brilliant brilliant casting news for "Daredevil" that made me jump up and down with joy. :)

Probably. Though after the poor reception of Iron Fist, I don't think many were wanting it that badly especially if it was forced and lacked any kind of chemistry. I know that Danny is supposed to appear in S2 of Luke Cage because of this expectation, though, so I don't know what to make of that or whether it'll be better or worse. IDK.

To be fair, while Daredevil and Luke Cage are good, the only show among this Netflix Marvel lineup I legitimately connect with is Jessica Jones. So I'm also very happy that she's finally back.

You'd be surprised... I mean I was surprised. Fanboys want what fanboys want.

I feel the same way in terms of connection when it comes to those shows. I probably won't bother with S2 of "Luke Cage". However, now what with the Joanne Whalley casting (I simply adore her so much) on "Daredevil", my interest in the latter is so much bigger.

I completely missed the Oscars this year and then I cursed myself when my republican BiL said that people boicotted them (16% less than last year) because “people support Trump and they are tired of hearing Hollywood talk shit about him” I rolled my eyes so hard I thought I could actually go back in time and watch the show!!!

I’m inteserted in the shape of water because I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and I like Del Toro... also Coco seems pretty interesting even if I think they sold it badly... I mean, I remember seeing the trailers at the movies and being “what is it about???” But not in a good curious way... but some of my friends told me they cried all their tears, so it’s up my alley LOL

Not too surprised about the defenders... that’s sad though...

That's very strange that you say that, because I thought they prompted the movie very nicely. I remember seeing the trailers and thinking how beautiful it looked, and how lovely it was to focus on Mexican culture which might not always be represented like this on screen before. They didn't reveal too much about it from the trailers, which is a good thing because it made me very curious and I'm glad that I remained unspoiled for it.

Not too surprised about the defenders... that’s sad though...

I'm just sad because there was just a lot of wasted potential, y'know? It could have been great, but it was very lackluster.

Oh, Luke Cage gets another season? Nice. I didn't watch it yet but when I do and I love the season, I don't have to wait so long for the next one. \o/

I wish I could watch the Oscars every year but because of the time difference it's in the middle of the night and it would totally screw my sleep pattern. Aaand I am too old to stay awake during the whole night. :>

After Luke Cage practically broke Netflix when it premiered and got a lot of praising reviews, it was no doubt that it would get a second season. :)

In truth, I don't watch award shows anymore. I used to when I was a teenager and somewhat in my early twenties, but I don't know whether I've grown out of them or they just haven't been as entertaining as they used to be, but I just can't seem to care. Also, most of the things that I want to win either weren't even nominated or don't end up winning anyway. I will only watch other people react and see the outcome after the fact.

Yeah, true, the dresses do have their appeal, although thanks to the Internet I can view them without watching anything, lol. Though in recent years I've felt like the dresses at the Oscars red carpet (or any awards events, tbh) have been rather bland and uninteresting. The Oscars this year felt like there was some variety going on, which I liked seeing.

That's true, too!
I like beautiful dresses but like you wrote, some of them were bland. And others were ... wow ... I like elegant dresses, I don't need so see woman with dresses where you can see everything. O_O
I guess, I am a little bit old-fashioned. I don't have a problem with a tight dress or with a beautiful cleavage but some of the dresses are not looking good at all. :(
