++ We have a new Deadpool 2 teaser and it is perfect and glorious in the best way possible Deadpool can be. I'm so glad the marketing for the sequel has remained the same as they did with the first film, with just random wacky meta fun. I can't wait for the movie, tbh.

++ You know, I'm rather confused on why certain shows aren't on DVD yet despite their popularity, or at least having enough seasons to warrant getting them to DVD. Stitchers isn't available to purchase that I've seen despite having three seasons, Sense8 was a success and yet it hasn't been available to buy on DVD/Bluray, though I'm hoping that after the fan campaign which brought it back for a two hour finale movie that Netflix will finally be able to release it to physically buy (because the fans deserve that much, at least). But the biggest confusion to me though is Wynonna Earp. It has been considered a huge hit on Syfy since the show premiered last year, and yet there is no DVD of it anywhere. There is Bluray but it's not available for those in the US, and the only one that you can probably only get is through IndieGogo but people have complained about the quality or not receiving theirs. With all of this, I'm just curious as to why there hasn't been an official release of a DVD/Bluray instead of all of this loophole nonsense. It's just so bizarre to me, and really quite sad because I want to physically own these shows to show my support of them.

Totally agree about the DVD thing. I don't understand why some shows aren't on DVD yet and will they be, ever? I really hope that "Wynonna Earp" does become available on DVD; I would love to own it.

I don't understand it, either. I know that it's probably more complex than it seems, but if there is demand for something to be available on DVD why not supply? Also, don't DVD sales help the notice of certain things, as well? You'd think that at least it should be available to most people. It also truly sucks when something you watched or want to watch isn't available on either DVD/Bluray or streaming sites, and probably won't ever be....

lol, for real though. Anytime something asks for top anything I always draw an immediate blank because I have so many things and anything current can change within an instant, so I just go with what I have always considered my all time favorites for years. Because it's much easier that way. ;)

Yeah, I've been itching for a WE DVD since the first season ended. It's really annoying and strange that it's not been properly made into a DVD. It's a show with a pretty solid fanbase, it's been renewed for a third season already; I don't get it. Killjoys and Dark Matter both have DVDs, The Expanse aswell I think.
I like owning the DVDs of my fave shows, because if I don't have enough bandwidth or I run out, having the DVD means I can still watch whenever I want. Also, the internet reception sucks at my parents, so having a DVD would be the only way to watch it there, or fo them to watch it if I lent it to them. Like. I NEED the DVD and it's really frustrating that it's STILL not available. :(
Same with Sense8; that not being on DVD is super weird.

Yeah, even that Van Helsing show is available on DVD. I think most Syfy shows end up getting to DVD/Bluray one way or another, so why is Wynonna Earp that rare exception? Are there legal issues that is preventing them from doing so? I mean, the show was a major hit when it first premiered, and its popularity has grown since then enough to warrant them announcing a third season in the middle of their second season, so I don't get it.

I know that Netflix can be fickle when it comes to releasing DVDs of their original shows, but most of their popular shows have been available on DVD/Bluray, most of them being available nearly immediately these days. Sense8 was a massive hit when it first came out, along with the Christmas special and the second season. You'd think we would've gotten DVDs for it by now. Of course, Netflix seems to not really care much for that show despite it being a huge hit because they cancelled it right after the second season dropped.

But, imho, if the show has been cancelled they should absolutely release the show on DVD anyway instead of holding it hostage. I'm hoping that after the two-hour movie next year that will happen.

Same. We have a massive eclectic collection of DVDs (both as a household and my own personal collection) and while I'm not opposed to digital or streaming I prefer having actual physical copies of a movie/show in my hands because, as you mentioned, I can watch it whenever I want to.

I think a lot of it has to be with rights and money, who is willing to distribute and manufacture it, etc. I know it's more complicated than that, but there are a lot of things out there that haven't gotten to DVD despite there being a huge demand for them. So there is definitely other things that factor into those decisions. But I do recall a show that I wanted to watch from years ago, The Secret Circle, that was cancelled after one season but immediately following the cancellation the showrunner announced that it wouldn't be released on DVD despite fan outcries. There is no way to watch it now unless it's available on streaming sites, which idek if it's even there anymore. So it does lead me to wonder why most shows end up on DVD but the selected few don't. Not to mention that DVD sales factor into an interest in something, right? That's how Firefly rose in popularity after its cancellation and mistreatment from FOX, through the DVD sales and many fans spreading the word. Most shows could benefit from that same tactic.

Yes ai know what you mean... I would love to have Stitchers DVDs with extras and stuff... I think that after amazon prime, Netflix, iTunes,... it makes less sense to make dvds for certain shows... that is very annoying..

It truly is. I don't mind there being options for streaming or buying digitally since that is the technological direction we're heading in, but not everyone has the means of viewing through those means so it is unfair to anyone who cannot do that. And others, like myself, who want to physically own a DVD copy of a show or movie no matter what. If something is to be made available, it should be for all formats (streaming, digital, and DVD) and not just one or the other.

I'm just surprised that Stitchers isn't available on DVD at all. You'd think that it would be, considering it has three seasons. I want to own it, dammit.

About shows not being released on DVD, I don’t get it either. It’s additional money to be made (e.g. additional funding for creating new content) and additional publicity (e.g. possible new viewers/subscriptions). So why not release them on DVD? Ok, companies like Netflix might want people to buy subscriptions and pay a monthly fee rather than a one off charge for DVDs, but to be honest, I’m more likely to buy DVDs than subscriptions, because while I can always watch the DVDs there is no guarantee that the show will always be available on the subscription service. I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks so.

There’s also the added problem that most subscription services and even bought digital content only work in the country you bought them in. If I where to buy a show on Amazon Video in Germany, for example, I couldn’t watch it outside of Germany. I mean, if I bought it I should be able to watch it wherever I want. As long as subscription services don’t let me do that having the DVDs is another bonus if you’re constantly between two countries like me.

I'm the same way. Subscriptions can be a nice bonus depending on the quantity of product they have to offer, but at the end of the day I will always resort to buying DVDs/Blurays because that is something of my control over what the service has control over. I like to physically own and hold the stuff I like rather than rely on a streaming service that will most likely not have it one day. Besides, I would rather pay once and own it forever so I can watch it whenever I want instead of pay monthly for something that may only be there for a limited amount of time. There is also the affordability thing because people save up to buy DVDs to watch at their leisure, however not everyone can afford a monthly fee for a subscription to watch something.

Exactly, that is another issue I know many have, not being able to view anything from streaming services because it is restricted where they live. And with no DVDs being released, this means that there is no way for them to support a show if they wanted to because of these limited restrictions. This is why DVDs and streaming shouldn't be mutually exclusive.

I really don't get why they hold some shows instead of releasing them on DVD/Blu-ray. Sense8 is the one that bothers me the most because not only is not not available on DVD/Blu-ray, it's not available ANYWHERE but Netflix, as far as I know. At least the other shows are on Itunes and Amazon. Sense8 can only been seen through Netflix.

Very true and that's likely played a factor in why they haven't released it yet. They know the show has a small but dedicated audience and this is their way of keeping those people subscribed to their service.

I don't see why DVDs aren't being made of more shows. It seems like it's a pretty easy gimmie for money. They aren't going to make anyone any profit if they're not available.

Seriously. I know that streaming services are becoming more frequent when it comes to shows and such, which is fine, but it shouldn't be mutually exclusive. Not everyone has the option for paying for such a subscription, and not all streaming works for everyone. Most shows still end up getting DVDs anyway, so why are some that have multiple seasons excluded from that? I just don't get it.

The DVD thing is weird, I've run into that issue too, bc unless they've released something recently that I missed - Shadowhunters is not available to buy anywhere. Granted, I only checked Amazon but it's a pretty successful show for Freeform, so it's a weird choice. It's possible this is because of the uptick in people streaming now, and there isn't as much of a demand for it.

Which makes no sense because the two shouldn't be mutually exclusive to each other. People may be streaming more as an option yes, but many aren't or many stream and then buy the DVDs to add to their own personal collection. Also, not everyone is able to stream/buy digitally, and not many want to for their own personal reasons. It should've be exclusive to one format or another since both make revenue either way. It's such a strange choice, and also unfair to those who cannot do the streaming/digital thing depending on where they live.

It's not like DVD/Bluray has become obsolete, far from it, so I don't know what the deal is.

I’ve noticed that DVDs/Blu-Rays seem to be less popular these these days, with streaming shows especially it took Netflix something like two years to release Daredevil on DVD, and none of those Marvel shows have a single extra included. It disappoints me because I love buying tv shows with all of the deleted scenes, gag reels, commentaries, and features giving you an extra look behind the scenes, but that just doesn’t seem to be as valued these days sadly.

Even with complete collections, you used to get really nice deluxe sets with even more bonus extras if you waited until the show had ended, but that doesn’t seem to be much of a thing these days either. Pretty Little Liars for example just had all of the individual seasons collected together in a simple slipcase, when it used to be that you would get some really nice fancy packaging when you brought a collection like that. Like with my Smallville set for example, they had the DVDs in a special book design which included a few extras like a made-up Daily Planet newspaper, along with two bonus disks. It all looked so nice, but you rarely hear about that kind of effort being made when it comes to today’s shows. Even a show like The Vampire Diaries which has the same sort of dedicated fanbase that Smallville had, there’s no effort being made with the complete collection, just the same old grouping the individual sets together with a slipcase. I don’t understand it, you’d think they would want to add extras and deluxe packaging even more than before, that way they could encourage people to pay for the digital media AND then buy a physical copy

Same. I'm someone who enjoys looking at all the behind the scene stuff, especially commentaries. I've noticed overtime that there was a shift in putting most, if not all, of the extra content on Blurays instead of DVDs. And while I don't think that will stop happening, it will become more selective since it some things will gradually shift over to the digital packages.

The only recent thing that I've seen was Stranger Things, which the Bluray has a nicely designed box to make it seem like a VHS, including the VHS protector slip, and it came with a free poster. But aside from that, yeah, most shows, even the ones you'd think would be popular enough to warrant some extra time for the DVD/Bluray releases, don't have much else aside from the discs. Hell, there were some shows that don't even have that much going for it on the discs themselves, such as a nice menu. Most times I pop a disc in and there are only the episode titles on a blank screen. It is so jarring and disappointing because I'm used to seeing at least maybe a background picture or a slightly interactive main menu and chapter selection.

I know, right? I don't understand it either. I know that things are shifting and changing when it comes to how one watches their shows, which is good to have options, but neither of those options should be mutually exclusive from each other. They could actually benefit from one another to help sales.

IDk about DVDs but Wynonna Earp is at least on Netflix in Germany. I don't even think that music licensing for that show could be an issue which is the reason why Cold Case never came out on DVD.

Yeah, I think it's on Netflix here too. But I just want to own it on DVD, since I do for most of my shows whenever I get the chance to purchase them. I want to have it physically for my own collection and not depend on a digital service that may take it away at anytime. :(

It honestly sucks when some shows are held back because of music copyright issues. Granted, it also sucks when certain shows are on DVD but the music used is switched with something else not from the televised version (or there is just silence where there once was music) so the scenes don't work as well, but at least it would still be on DVD. So many great shows will often be forgotten because it isn't available anywhere because of those issues.
