++ The New Mutants is going to be a superhero horror film, which has me intrigued. I like this new direction Marvel has taken with exploring different genres within the superhero universe rather than just repeating the same old summer blockbuster formula. Deadpool and Logan are examples of them going against that grain of trying something new, something different, with superhero stories by presenting them in another way. While we have no way of knowing at the moment how The New Mutants will do as a film, I am still fascinated by the concept of a superhero horror as a subgenre. I know it's probably been done before, but it's so rarely seen, and I hope that this gives the inspiration for more storytelling of this kind. And also because, personally, horror is my favorite genre and I would love to see more superhero movies appropriately placed in that category to give more variety.

++ Along those lines, The Gifted is a show that I will be getting too very soon because I've heard that it's pretty good. I don't know much about it other than Amy Acker is in it, and that Jamie Chung plays Blink. I've been fascinated with the character Blink since Fan Bingbing played her in X-Men: Days of Future Past, which her character was so brief in sadly. So having the character be in a television show makes me hope that there will be further exploration.

++ I've actually been enjoying the Will & Grace revival, which came as a pleasant surprise. Revivals tend to be a huge hit or miss with me, which I've ranted about before, but this one is actually quite decent. They've done a good job with remaining faithful to the original run of the show with the momentum and the jokes, it honestly doesn't feel like it even left the air. I've also noticed that, aside from mending certain things, they're doing things that they probably weren't allowed to do when the show first aired, which is very interesting indeed.

I had no idea The New Mutants was going to be a horror film before they released the trailer. Tbh, it looks too scary for me. But I agree with you that it's great that they're making a wide variety of movies, like Ant-Man is a heist movie, for example.

I never watched the original, and haven't seen the revival - is it a sequel series of sorts, or is it just an updated version?

It is basically a sequel, in a sense. They ignored the series finale completely (thankfully, because the fans hated that finale and they even acknowledged and retconned it in the premiere of the revival where the finale was just a figment of Karen's imagination/hallucination/dream). So it's essentially a continuation of the series eleven years later sans that finale mess.

I definitely think so, yeah. Most revivals are just there to be there as a reunion of characters without much further development of anything, but at least with W&G they've managed to be able to work with it without feeling nearly forced like most revivals do, so far at least. There are improvements which match with the current time that we're in now as opposed to when the show originally broadcast, which is a big difference that I've seen, which I'm liking so far.

Have you seen Legion? (Sorry if you've already said so and I forgot.) It's a really good superhero show with a lot of horror elements.

Legion has been on my "to watch list" after I heard great things about it, because it sounds so weird and trippy and with the added horror elements it's definitely right up my alley. Plus, Aubrey Plaza looks fantastic in it and I'm fascinated the character she plays, just based on the gifs that I've seen.

Will & Grace was something I was apprehensive about when they announced it because revivals don't always go over well with me, but they managed to find a good balance and it truly doesn't feel like they haven't been away.

I'll definitely binge the episodes that have aired so far and see how I like it, though judging from most people's comments I think I just may end up enjoying it. If nothing more than just to see Amy Acker and Jamie Chung, because I love them both. ;)

I am surprised at how much I am loving the Will & Grace revival too, because I am like you in that they tend to be hit or miss with me. I think Hollywood is revival happy, but they don't really put a lot of effort into the projects, and instead just bank on people's nostalgia. It's nice to see writers that are addressing current issues + this cast is just so wonderful together.

Exactly. Revivals are the new remakes, basically. While sometimes they can work, once the industry latches onto it, it becomes a trend and therefore tiresome because there is so little effort placed into it. It becomes less about continuing the story and more about banking on the nostalgia factor. So I don't trust revivals unless there is actual effort placed. That's why Will & Grace feels different, because it actually feels like it is a direct continuation from the show after it ended (minus that finale, of course) just eleven years later. Sure, everyone is older but they have managed to make it work. The writing, the comedy, it feels the same, just updated and improved.

I hope I like it, too. I will most likely end up making a post about it, or write about it at some point with my impressions of the show once I start watching it. :)

I saw the trailer for The New Mutants without knowing what sort of film it was going to be. I don't do horror so I was rather taken aback by it. It looks interesting and it's nice that they're going for something more suitable to the comics. Bit too scary for me though *sigh*

The Gifted looks good too but it's not on a channel I have access to!

I wasn't even aware of the movie until the trailer came out and people were talking about how it was horror based in the X-Men universe, which definitely captured my attention. So I watched it and I'm even more intrigued. Then again the horror genre is my jam so of course I would be all over this, lol.

Though it is understandable that those who doesn't like anything scary will want to avoid this, or at least wait until they get spoiled for what happens so they're prepared.

It's pretty good so far, it really doesn't feel like they left because the momentum is nearly exactly the same. I think if you enjoyed the original run, you'll enjoy the revival.
