SENSE8 IS RETURNING FOR A 2-HOUR LONG SPECIAL EPISODE.

Against all odds, another special episode is happening in hoping to wrap up the storyline that was left off in a massive cliffhanger at the end of the second season.

It has been pretty almost a month since Netflix made that terrible announcement, and since then the fandom has been incredibly relentless in voicing our displeasure regarding this strangely abrupt decision. The fan campaign of getting the show renewed has been tireless, and while at points it seemed like the passionate fire was dying down it never did. People continued to make noise, continued to spread the petition around, continued to spread the love of the show. And somehow, by some miracle, we're finally getting the closure we deserve. While I would prefer the show to have been renewed in its entirety so they could the complete five season arc they originally planned, at least we're getting the closure we deserve. That is all fans wanted, honestly. If the show wasn't going to continue on we at least needed the show to have a proper sendoff. Not many shows get this opportunity, so we should appreciate this rare chance as a blessing.

Thank you Lana Wachowski, and thank you fandom. We did this. We made this happen.

I am just so happy right now. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

It's such a rarity that this happens, and the fact that we're getting closure due to how immensely supportive the fanbase has been with the campaign is just amazing. June has been quite a ride for Sense8, let me tell you.

If there is one thing to take away from this, it's the unbreakable determination of the fandom. Just seeing all the support and love pouring out from them regarding the show and wanting so badly to see it renewed makes the entire fight worthwhile. And honestly, without that fight we wouldn't be here now and it makes my heart swell so much.

I'm so proud of the Sense8 fandom. :)

YOU REALLY DO, IT IS AMAZING! :D

In all seriousness, it truly is an amazing show. I have never watched a show where I am enamored by all of the characters/cast, and this is also the only show where I basically ship all the canon relationships. It's also the perfect found family show on multiple levels. I highly recommend you check it out, especially now that the news is that it'll be wrapped up proper!

YES! YES! YES! Awesome news!
I've been putting of watching the last episode, because I didn't want it to be over. Now I can finally watch it with the knowledge that there'll be a special final which'll give us closure.

I know, right? I've seen some people who are just starting the show or were thinking about starting watching but were put off somewhat due to the fact that the show got cancelled on a cliffhanger, which is understandable since I, too, would be wary of starting a show I know ends on an unresolved cliffhanger. (Which is what makes the entire Netflix situation further frustrating and why it should never have happened in the first place and why their recently "strategy" with the treatment of their shows sucks.) But now that the show will finally be given a chance to wrap up the arc that was left hanging, and a proper sendoff, I'm hoping more people will continue watching and even discovering this wonderful series. :D

I know, right? I continually check the fandom to see what is happening, and while it's been depressing since the announcement earlier this month it's also uplifting with fandom solidarity at the same time, as well. But yesterday was an entirely new feeling. Yesterday I felt a sense of relief and absolute joy. I've been part of fan campaigns to get shows saved from cancellation before, and this doesn't always happen, no matter how loud the fanbase is. So this truly is a miracle.

I'm just so happy I get my show back, and we get to have some sense of closure for the characters and the story. :)

It's always devastating when a show gets cancelled too early, let alone right at a cliffhanger where shit starts getting real re: the plot. It is unfair to the fans as it is to those working on the show telling the story, and sadly in most cases nothing ever happens to resolve it. The fact that we've been given this opportunity at closure is a miracle in itself.

Thank god! If there can't be another full season, there has to be *something* to do the plot justice!

Exactly. Ideally, it would be fantastic for it to be renewed as a whole, but at this point fans are just happy that we got something out from this whole ordeal. We're actually getting closure that we deserve, which isn't common when it comes to cancelled shows. I know it'll probably be a condensed version of what they originally planned, but regardless I'm okay with that as long as we get a proper and appropriate sendoff. :)

YESSSSSS. One of my friends was so excited to tell me when she heard about it because she knew I was heartbroken about the cancellation. I AM SO EXCITEDDDDD. It shouldn't have been canceled in the first place, but I'm so happy that we're getting some closure and that they get the chance to wrap up the show.

I honestly did a double take and had to reread Lana's letter to make sure that I wasn't dreaming. It's very rare something like this happens, and I had even mentioned that I would take another special episode to wrap everything up proper if only to give fans that closure since S2 ended on a cliffhanger. I'm still in shock that it's actually becoming a reality! I mean sure, I do want the show to be renewed for a third season (and more), just like the rest of the fanbase, but this? This is probably the most miraculous thing that has happened, since it isn't common. June was quite a wild ride for the Sense8 fandom, let me tell you.

Netflix still fucked up majorly though with how they handled everything, though. That is something I will never forget or forgive them for.

Yessssss. Most shows never get a chance to wrap things up, so it's always a blessing when something like this happens and a 1-2 hour special is granted to wrap things up. Last month was def a wild ride for fandom, and anyone who thinks fandom can't make things happen, all you have to do is point them in the direction in the few instances like this. Now that I'm thinking about it, this year fandom got Sense8 a chance to wrap up its story and Timeless brought back from the dead as a shorter summer show.

I totally agree. I def won't look at Netflix the same after this.

Aww that's awesome, I'm so happy for you and the other fans! I thought it was very strange for Netflix to cancel one of their own shows on a clifhanger

Netflix has been making supremely bad decisions lately, and I don't know why. Their mishandling of Sense8 along with their treatment of the fanbase was so unprofessional, and then had the audacity to be passive aggressive while saying that they don't like leaving their shows unfinished (then you shouldn't have cancelled one of them without warning, ffs!) So while we're getting a special to wrap things up I'm still never forgiving, or forgetting, what they did.

WOHOO :D :D

On the other hand, hum. Aside from Firefly getting Serenity, is this the only other time that a series has gotten a sendoff like this after it's been canceled?

Date: 2017-07-03 09:34 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com
I don't know, I'm sure there might be, but I honestly can't think of any at the moment. Especially not one that sticks out like this, since this (along with Serenity getting made) was quite unusual and unique due to the immense fan support/response and campaign protesting its abrupt and unjust cancellation.

Never underestimate the power of fandom! I had Sense8 on my list of programmes I wanted to watch but when I heard it was cancelled mid-storyline there didn't seem to be any point in starting it. This is definitely good news.

That's one of the things that saddened me, because so many people were wanting to watch the show or were just discovering it but once they found out that it was cancelled on a cliffhanger they thought there wasn't a point to it. Which is why Netflix's flimsy statement about how they "don't like a series to be unfinished" is such a contradiction to the fact that they just randomly cancelled a series before it finished, and without any warning. Had it not been for the fandom to continue this fight, to raise our voices in protest, we wouldn't have this two-hour special to wrap up the story.

Now that there will be a proper end, I'm hoping that anyone who was curious and wanted to start the show can do so knowing that at least it'll have a sendoff. :)

I'm just so happy! I mean, I'm still angry at Netflix and will never forgive them for what they did, but at least with this proves how one can never underestimate the power and influence the voices of a fanbase can be.

Just the whole situation was a mess from the start. Starting with the audacity of them thinking they could cancel a show only 25 days after the premiered of its second season, with no warning, remaining silent until it tried to tell the fanbase to stop with the campaigns and petitions. I'm just flabbergasted that they had the nerve to basically do this and think that nobody would've reacted.

I'm ecstatic that we're getting a special episode to give us a proper conclusion, but at the same time I'm still miffed on how this whole thing was handled.

It's moments like these where you truly shouldn't underestimate the power of fandom. :)

The second season is so good. I loved the first season, and I think the second season is even better because it just moves so quickly and shit gets real. It ends too soon before things start happening, but now that we'll be getting a special episode to wrap things up I'm excited to know what is going to happen.
