++ I have some thoughts about the Legends of Tomorrow finale, well, one thought in particular:

One of the things that I really wanted from Legends of Tomorrow was for Sara and Rip to share the Captain responsibilities. Sara took up the role beautifully during his absence, learning the ropes about what it means to be a leader, and it was the next logical step in her character journey. But once they got Rip back I had hoped that, during this time, they would come to an agreement that they would become co-captains, Rip navigating through timelines while Sara instructed the team. So the fact that Rip left the Waverider for good in the finale was kind of sad and disappointing.

I mean, in a way I understand. Sara has taken on being Captain quite well, and in his eyes he wasn't really that equipped for the job anymore. He used to be a Time Master but since they're gone, and his mission from recruiting the team in the first place of taking out Savage and avenging his family was completed, where does he stand? Where does he go from here? When he returned back to normal from being brainwashed he felt lost, uncertain where he stood with the rest of the team. He probably wants to take time for himself to learn who he was and trained to become. But I still, feel like he could still be a valuable member of the team even without being Captain, y'know? He has knowledge that only he is aware of based on his training, and understands things about time travel better than any of them.

Not only that, but I feel that he and Sara have a natural rapport with each other that is different from anyone else on the team. They have ever since the first season, since I always felt that Rip treated Sara more like an equal than just another member of the team. Perhaps this was the setup for her taking on the role of Captain, I don't know. But I really like their dynamic on the show, and I don't want to lose that. Hence why the thought of them being co-captains seemed like the most logical choice once he returned to the ship.

So I don't know if Arthur Darvill is going to be doing other projects, but I really want him to return as Rip Hunter at some point.


++ I also just started watching The Expanse, a show that has been heavily recommended for a while now. Already a few episodes in and I'm loving what I'm seeing, not just with the characters featured and the story itself but also the incredible world-building. Between this and Dark Matter, that scifi void within my soul has been filled since Battlestar Galactica. I'll be making my way through the show, since it's currently in its second season and has been renewed for a third, I'll definitely be busy. I just need better time management for binge-watching my shows, lol.

Do you watch "Killjoys"? I rather enjoy "Dark Matter". I have yet to watch season 2 of "The Expanse". It was a bit hard for me to get into. I liked the general world building but I didn't care much for the detective character and I usually gravitate to the female characters and the show didn't have too many unfortuantely from what I remember.

Sara, Martin and Mick are the main reasons I watch "Legends of Tomorrow".

I haven't started Killjoys yet. That is another show on my queue of things to start watching eventually.

I've heard that they added a bit more women in the second season, and I've seen gifs of them all over my Tumblr dash. I'm someone who gravitates more towards women characters as well, but so far I do like the ensemble of the show. Granted I've only just begun so it'll take me a bit to get a feel of the characters. But so far the world-building and the way things are setup is just fascinating, and it makes me want to continue learning more about this world and the characters.

Sara Lance was pretty much the only reason why I started watching Legends of Tomorrow, because she is my favorite character and I'll follow her wherever she goes. ♥

And yes, Sara was the main reason I decided to watch it. I admit Victor Garber is just, well, I can't help it, Alias will forever be my favourite show. Mick only grew on me this season without Snart because he manages to deliver some of the most hilarious lines ever so dryly in my opinion.

Mick was a character that surprised me a lot. I grew to really like him in the first season, because he had some interesting character development and it just continued to go on from there. While I do miss Snart's sarcastic wit, Mick's dry delivery is always golden and makes the show so much more enjoyable.

Chrisjen Avasarala's role in the second season gets bigger and there are two new amazing female characters and Naomi is of course still awesome. I hope you'll give it a shot,season 2 is fantastic :)

I think I will. It was just in season 1 – I really really wished that Athena Karkanis's and Lola Glaudini's roles had been bigger since I've seen them both on other shows and knew them to be really good actresses and thought their parts could have been interesting if expanded. So that was disappointing to me. *sigh* But I take your word for it and soldier on. I may have some time this weekend. :) Though I still have to catch up on Into The Badlands.

Yeah, I was bummed about Rip's departure. I guess they want to put Arthur on recurring status and this was the best way to do that but still...I'm disappointed. And I don't really understand the decision from a character POV. The Legends are the only real friends/family Rip has so I just don't get him choosing to leave them to go off on his own.

I'm also going to be disappointed to lose out on the Sara/Rip interactions. They have one of the most interesting relationships on the show and there's so much potential for where it could go. I suppose if Arthur comes back on a semi-regular basis we'll still get that development but it won't be the same. Also, there's no guarantee of how much we'll actually see of him next season.

Exactly. Rip has nobody else, and this team has basically become a family and he is a part of that. As I mentioned I can understand if he needs time to readjust himself, but to leave entirely just because he wasn't Captain anymore seems rather strange, because he is still part of the team regardless of his rank or status. He still provides information and knowledge and still is useful even no longer being a Captain of the Waverider (which is his ship, his home, no matter what).

It just seemed like an odd decision to make, furthermore it makes me sad because I really wanted to see more development of Rip. His character went through a lot this season, and that is worth exploring more of, imho.

Same. And it's not just because I do ship Rip/Sara, but their entire dynamic has been fascinating since the first season. Their characters shared many parallels this season, and that is why I wanted them to be co-captains, and I feel like their relationship on the show would've strengthened further because they are basically equals and partners on another level than anyone else. I mean, their dynamic as a whole is better than any romantic pairing the show tried to push onto us. To lose that makes me very sad.

I hated to see Rip go as well... Unfortunately I haven't enjoyed the DC shows too much this year... I remember I started LoT because of Arthur Darvill (aka Rory Pond) and I hate seeing him gone, even if his character was too similar to the 10th Doctor (I mean, that coat...) I enjoyed him! I thin we'll see him again when things get though for the team!

I do hope we see him again in the future, as well. Rip is just as an integral member of the Legends team just like the rest of them. I feel like his story isn't quite done yet, especially after what he went through this season. He brought this team together, they are family, and he is part of that family too.

I would have liked that for Rip and Sara too - that arrangement would be so much better. Agreed completely that Rip always saw Sara as an equal in a way he didn't with the others.

It's an arrangement that would've made sense for their characters and the current situation. I mean, just because Sara has taken on the role as the Captain of the ship and leader of the team doesn't mean that Rip doesn't have a place among the rest of them. Their roles have shifted, but it doesn't mean he has to leave. If anything sharing the role would've been much, much better.

Seconding this. I actually want some character development for Rip. We've gotten some, and he went through a lot this season, so I'm hoping that these plans will allow him to grow and develop and, yes, realize that he doesn't need to leave the Waverider just because he isn't the Captain anymore, and that he is needed and wanted, he is part of that family, and he can still lead right alongside Sara and be part of that crew. I think both Rip and Sara balance not just the team out, but also each other. It's one of the things I have been enjoying with their dynamic, and it would be a great loss to not see that again.

I had planned on getting into it sooner but, as always, other things happened and I just needed to be in the right mood to start watching. But I'm glad I did, I really like it so far and I'm looking forward to catching up. :)

I expected Rip and Sara to become co-captains. I certainly didn't expect Rip to leave altogether. I wonder if he did leave for good or if he'll be back again in a short time, kind of like they did this season.

According to what malicat mentioned above, the showrunners claim to have plans for Rip next season, so I believe he'll be back. He just won't be part of the team, at least not immediately. I feel like Rip needs time after everything he's been through, but he must know that he is just still much part of the team and family aboard the Waverider no matter what. He and Sara becoming co-captains is not an impossibility, it actually makes perfect sense considering that they were kinda already doing this in a way.

I already knew I was going to love the ladies since I saw the gifsets of them all over Tumblr, so I was all prepared once I started getting into the show. :)
