Asked by [livejournal.com profile] fly_meaway:

Who is your current celeb crush/are your current celeb crushes?

My current celebrity/actor crush is Richard Armitage. Ever since being introduced to him through The Hobbit movies I have basically consumed everything he's done and been following everything he's doing with his career. He is ridiculously attractive of course, that is quite obvious, but what I also love about him is how hardworking he is with the projects he's involved with. As an actor he incredibly talented and dedicated to the roles he is given, no matter how big or small, giving his all even if it's just a cameo. As a human being he is absolutely kindhearted and generous, soft-spoken and a bit reserved (he remains out of the mainstream media spotlight and values his privacy) but his personality is adorable and has shown to be quite a dork, and he is quite passionate about human rights. He supports various charities and was recently declared the ambassador for Cybersmile, an anti-cyberbullying foundation, plus he has been more open about his opinions and thoughts on particular world events, he visited refugee children while in Berlin and has recently been taking his Twitter, which previously mostly was used for posting selfies and promoting future projects, to discussing politics especially in wake of Brexit, which he is rightfully furious about.

I know I'm gushing quite a bit about him, but my love for Richard is more than the fact that he is gorgeous. I respect him as an actor and as a person, and I admire that he remains true to who he is and continues to do what he loves. And he posts the most amazing selfies, just goddamn.

I actually have plenty of celebrity crushes, some which have remained my main baes for the longest of time. I should probably make an official list someday.

Ooh thanks for this post. I only know him from Spooks but this is all lovely to know, and he's quite gorgeous and it's nice to hear that he's such a cool person as well.

He is totally fine as fuck, and aging like fine wine.

I love that he's gradually becoming more comfortable in his own skin, particularly with the things he says in interviews and especially on Twitter. I remember when he first wasn't sure about even getting something like Twitter or social media in general, but here he is now. First with the ridiculously attractive selfies, and now with being emboldened by speaking out on important matters, not giving any fucks. Bless him. ♥

(Also, gurl! How have you been doing, lately, bby?)

I have loved Richard Armitage since his North and South days - Mr Thornton, mmm. Tell me you've seen it? Ugh, I die. It's probably my all-time favourite period drama (mainly for Richard, 'tis true). I could never get into Robin Hood enough to watch it regularly, not even for Richard, but I loved him in Spooks.

That reminds me of when I first heard he was cast as Thorin in The Hobbit - I was actually slightly worried because I thought they'd make him all ugly and Gimli-like and I'd feel a bit weird fancying a dwarf. How little I knew!

Have you ever checked out any of the audio books he does? The man could read the phone book and make it sexy...

North and South is such a beautiful period drama. Even though I was already attracted to him, after watching it I understood why people ended up swooning over him, like my god. Richard was absolutely perfect for the role, he has that level of depth of portraying John Thornton in all of his broody, angsty, romantic glory. He needs to play more roles like that, imho.

He was basically the only redeeming thing about BBC's Robin Hood, lol.

It's actually interesting when you look at the character from the beginning of An Unexpected Journey, he looked quite different than how he appears in the rest of the movies. They basically made him more attractive than the original character design they set for him. It's like they knew. ;)

Oh, yes. I have some downloaded from Audible.com and he is absolutely amazing with the way he narrates. The variation of the voices he uses, the richness of his voice. It is perfection. I'm also in agreement that he could read anything and I would be all, yessss pls.

I tend to do EXACTLY the same! I've been obsessed with Harrison Ford and he has done quite a lot of stuff!

First time I saw Richard it was on Robin Hood (BBC) and I loved him (all dressed in black leather? Are you kidding me? Where do I sign?) and then I watched North and South because I wanted to see him playing a more positive character... He's a great actor!!! Good choice!!!

You Should!!!!!

Guy of Gisborne was the only redeeming quality of BBC's Robin Hood, imho. Aside from the leather and guyliner (Guylinerâ„¢, lol) he was appropriately snarky and brooding and also provided a lot of vulnerability to the role. Even if the writing of his character was constantly inconsistent, Richard still managed to do the best he could with what he was given and he did a fantastic job.

North and South was such a beautiful miniseries. I'm not one usually for period dramas, but this one was incredibly different from the usual story format I've seen. He was just so charmingly handsome in a brooding kind of way, and I loved the UST between John and Margaret so much. He honestly should do more roles like this.

Oooh, that reminds me: I need to get caught up on Hannibal. Doesn't he play the Red Dragon in the third season?

Yep, in the second half of the third season. He portrayed Francis Dolarhyde wonderfully, approaching the character with being terrifying but also bringing a certain vulnerability to him, as well. Such a perfect choice for the role, imho. He even recently won a Saturn Award for his performance! :D

When you take into account the amount of hard work he does, from television and movies and theater to narrating audiobooks, he truly is underrated. Although he does get rewarded for certain things from time to time (like having recently won a Saturn Award for his role on Hannibal, and having won the previous year for his role as Thorin in The Hobbit), he just deserves more recognition.

He truly is. So versatile with his acting, and incredibly talented with what he does. He is able to do so much even with the smallest of roles, and I'm surprised he doesn't even more recognition for his work. ♥

You totally just made me fall a little bit more in love with him. Guh. I just adore him as an actor, I've yet to really immerse myself in him as a celebrity. I LOVE IT WHEN THE TALENTED ONES ARE ALSO AWESOME PEOPLE!

I've been really loving his he's been coming out of his shell in recent years, particularly when it comes to talking about important issues that deeply affect and matter to him. I know that it's not wise to blindly idolize anyone, especially actors/celebrities, but I have much admiration and respect for Richard not just as an actor, but as a human being who is trying his best at spreading some hope and happiness into the world. He is a good-natured, humble man, and I hope he remains this way. ♥ ♥ ♥

I'm totally for an official list someday ;) I always love things like that.

And aww, great to read through what your thoughts on Richard are. It's honestly so great to read through as you get so enthusiastic and everything. It gives me a different insight to him, even. I'll have to check out his Twitter now, I think ;)

I'll have that on my "to do" list, then. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while, since I've seen other people on my flist do official crush lists of actors/celebrities all the time.

Thank you so much. :) ♥ Definitely check out his Twitter. He doesn't tweet that often, but when he does it's incredibly special. :)

He was honestly extraordinary in Hannibal. I mean I'm biased, but his performance was absolutely stunning. It was perfectly chilling yet gave you an understanding of the character, plus with the combination of the amazing visuals and Bryan Fuller's excellent use of cinematography to tell the story, it was remarkable. I'm sad the show ended after the third season, but what a way for it to go out, the finale aside Richard was an fantastic addition to the cast.

(And now I'm rambling and gushing again, I just can't help myself! lol)
