What one thing (or more) from your chosen fantasy-universe would you want to be a thing in our universe?


The immediate thing that came to mind when reading this question was the magical cell phones from Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon that can change your appearance. Essentially when you take a picture of an outfit and press a button, that outfit appears on your person fitting perfectly to your figure regardless on how it originally was laid out. I've always thought it would be very useful and convenient, and would waste less time trying on clothes that don't fit.

Of course there are an endless list of things I would choose that could become a reality in our world. Like some of the magic from Harry Potter, particularly in terms of various transportation methods, or perhaps an actual Stargate where you can travel to different places around the world in an instant, or the portal gun and long fall boots from Portal because how cool would that be, or the holoband from Caprica where you can go into an actual virtual world, like meeting your actual online friends in a 3D virtual space and doing whatever you wanted to do, within reason of course. There are just so many possibilities...

I mean, virtual reality is slowly becoming a real thing (with the Oculus Rift for video games), and while the holoband is a science fiction creation it is not at all far from the possibility of becoming a reality itself of actually creating a virtual world where people can interact with others online. And the very idea is pretty damn nifty, too.

I've always wanted something like the Pensieve, where you can extract certain memories and them actually witness them much later. I find something like that quite beneficial, and I have kind of a crap memory anyway for the most part so it would be quite useful.

That would be such a cool power to have. Just the ability to summon something you want from anywhere would be super useful in any given time.

LOL yes, that would really be a helpful device!! I hate trying on clothes and nothing makes me more depressed than trying on an outfit that looked cute on the mannequin and then doesn't fit right on my body. You'd save a lot of heartache with that one! LOL.

I think my number one request would be for a transporter! :) Beam me up!

I feel like anything in any fantasy/scifi world where things can be easily transported or teleported would be an instant win for many of us, because it would make life so much easier.

YES. I'd love one of the magical cell phones. Same thing goes for a Time Turner from Harry Potter.

The Time Turner would be neat if only there was a better way of managing its magic, so to speak, and only used for when your schedule is incredibly hectic, similar to Hermione's situation, which admittedly is quite beneficial in a lot of cases. Though I imagine that it would be absolutely tiring trying not to fuck with time itself; not meeting your past self, not going so far back in the past, etc.

Exactly. And while I love clothes, I'm not someone who has the patience to spend hours trying on different pairs of whatever and matching them with other articles of clothing. It's why I don't like spending so much time in stores trying on anything for too long. Having a device that magically allows you to have an already prepared outfit fit you perfectly with just a touch of a button is such a time saver.
