STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS
Dec. 21st, 2015 03:19 pmJust got back, here is my initial reaction. Warning: spoilers with lots of capslock.
I HAVE BEEN EMOTIONALLY COMPROMISED.
IT WAS SO GOOD, BUT MY FEELS ARE EVERYWHERE
REY, MY BEAUTIFUL TINY BADASS BBY (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
FINN, MY BEAUTIFUL BRAVE HUFFLEPUFF BBY (✿◠‿◠)
POE, MY BEAUTIFUL RESISTANCE PILOT BBY (◕‿◕✿)
AND HAN, OH MY HAN. (;__;) AS SOON AS THE CUES WERE HAPPENING (AND IN HINDSIGHT EVEN BEFORE THAT) I KNEW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN, BUT MY HEART STILL HURTS. Like okay, I know it works for the narrative and I know that Harrison Ford was happy with this decision since he apparently wanted Han to die initially in Return of the Jedi, so him dying in The Force Awakens makes sense to move the story along and to continue with the new generation but still keeping with the older one with Leia and Luke still there and other familiar faces. BUT STILL! MY HEART STILL IS LIKE HAN FUCKING SOLO, HE HAS ESCAPED DEATH MANY, MANY TIMES. LIL BBY REY WAS ALL "YOU'RE THE HAN SOLO!" AND LOOKING AT HIM WITH STARRY EYES AND I WANTED THEM TO BE ALL ADVENTURE BUDDIES AND HIM BEING A PATERNAL FIGURE TO HER AND WHATNOT. I WANTED HAN AND LUKE TO BE REUNITED AGAIN, GDI. I WANTED MORE HAN AND LEIA. THE TRIO GANG ALL BACK TOGETHER. I understood why it happened story-wise, especially since it kind of mirrors the whole Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader in A New Hope, and Han probably knew it would be a huge risk and a possible suicide mission anyway, BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN MY HEART ACCEPTS IT AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME OKAY.
I DID GASP WHEN IT WAS REVEALED THAT KYLO-REN WAS HAN AND LEIA'S SON, I ESPECIALLY GASPED OUT LOUD IN THE THEATER WHEN HAN SAID HIS REAL SON'S NAME, "BEN". LIKE! THE CONNECTION! I SEE IT!
BUT KYLO-REN, MAN. JUST WOW. TALK ABOUT A MASSIVE TEMPER TANTRUM. WHAT A BRAT.
REY KICKING HIS ASS THOUGH! I LOVED EVERY MOMENT OF IT. I LOVED EVERY MOMENT WITH REY TO BE HONEST, BUT WHEN SHE STARTED FIGHTING BACK WITH THE FORCE AND LEARNING THE JEDI MIND TRICKS BY HERSELF, OH MAN. AND THAT ENDING WITH HER JUST BEATING HIS ASS, I WAS LIKE YAAASSSSSS!!!
AND NOW I'M ASSUMING THEY ARE SETTING UP FOR REY TO BE A JEDI-IN-TRAINING. WITH LUKE. WHICH I LOVED SEEING THAT MOMENT IN THE END.
AND I BELIEVE THAT REY IS HIS DAUGHTER. LIKE, SERIOUSLY. UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE, I WHOLEHEARTEDLY BELIEVE THIS.
I HAVE OTHER THOUGHTS, BUT THEY'RE ALL JUMBLED UP AT THE MOMENT. NEED MORE TIME TO PROCESS.
BUT GENERALLY FINAL VERDICT: I LOVED IT. I LOVED IT. I FUCKING LOVED IT. BETTER THAN THOSE PREQUELS, LIKE A 10000X. AND REY IS AWESOME AND I LOVE THAT SHE IS BASICALLY THE NEXT LUKE SKYWALKER (PERHAPS MORE WAYS THAN ONE IF MY THEORY IS CORRECT), AND I LOVE THE NEW GENERATION IN GENERAL, AND ALL THE WOMEN PRESENT IN THE FILM WAS SUPER GREAT ON ALL SIDES, AND BB-8 BEING ADORABLE AND ALL THE PRACTICAL EFFECTS AND THE CINEMATOGRAPHY. CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE. ♥ ♥ ♥

Date: 2015-12-22 09:59 pm (UTC)I love that it was so clear that Kylo Ren was obsessed with his grandfather, mimicking his movements and outfit but he's so young and foolish and desperate and such a brat and he just isn't there.
Exactly. They highlighted this certain displacement with his childish outbursts and temper tantrums, him being torn with not being "good enough" like how Darth Vader was (while completely missing the point at the same time) thus fueling his obsession with "finishing what he started", and still feeling the pull of his good side and that particular inner conflict, which he thought he could kill by killing his father. It makes you wonder whether he is a chance at being redeemed or not.
How fucking pretty was everything though?? Snow and the forest and the whoom whoom of light sabers and their more or less swift movements and the planet just falling apart under their feet. Gooood.
Everything about the locations and scenery during certain scenes were so beautiful. I love that they took advantage of using such gorgeous places to film particular moments, like the fighting scene in the snow. It was so pretty and awesome and, ah! ♥
I hope Poe gets more screentime in the next two films. His instant friendship with Finn was adorable. I loved that he gave Finn his name and was complimenting him as Finn was learning how to fire and everything. And then when they reunited, all the hugs and happiness. I really want Finn, Poe and Rey to be in the same room with each other, bonding and whatnot. These cute kids, just protect them universe, okay?
BB-8 was too adorable, omg. ♥
I CAN'T FUCKING BELIEVE THEY KILLED HAN FUCKING SOLO. HAN SOLO. ;________________;
