You can tell a lot about someone by the type of music they listen to. Hit shuffle on your iPod, phone, iTunes, media player, etc. and write down the first 20 songs. Here are the rules: No skipping! Be honest!

++ I've finally been listening to the Hamilton soundtrack, and it's absolutely fantastic just as everyone says it is. I love that it's a historical hip-hop Broadway musical, the cast made of entirely of POC (playing the Founding Fathers, no less!), and that it's become so successful and gotten critical acclaim in such a short amount of time since it debuted. I highly recommend everyone start listening to it if you haven't already, because it's just so damn good.

Date: 2015-11-19 08:07 am (UTC)I love Aaliyah. "Are You That Somebody" was my first song introduction to her back in the day, and I remember being so crushed when they announced her death. My playlist has all her songs.
"Wonder Woman" is such a good song, omg. I love it when Namie collabs with different artists, especially with AI. They are a good duo, and it makes me wish that Suite Chic made a comeback.
Thank you! :)

I assume you have listened to the music at least? I like that this is available, since it's almost like seeing it in person.

Date: 2015-11-18 04:16 pm (UTC)I love Ron Chernow's book. I've read it twice, both times sobbing and cursing Aaron Burr at the end. Maybe if I read it a third time the ending will change and he'll die an old man in his bed. They say third time's the charm...

Date: 2015-11-18 04:25 pm (UTC)And wow, twice! Lol I plan to tackle it next year, but I finally bought it and am excited...working on "Founding Brothers" by Ellis now, have you read that one? (I see Ellis has a new one featuring Hamilton and others during the period between the Revolution and the constitution called "The Quartet.")
And heh, I have to say I have come to appreciate Aaron Burr a lot more through the musical as well--before all I knew was that he shot Hamilton and supposedly tried to become king of Louisiana/was a crazy person. But I love how fleshed out he is in the musical!

I might snag this meme--love the BSG OST as well! I don't have "The Dance" though, is that from Colonial Day? I have The Passage of Time, Kara Remembers, Battlestar Sonatica, Prelude to War,
Gaius/Six's Wedding MarchThe Shape of Things to Come, and Prologue. My favorites are Prelude and The Shape of Things to Come. <33Also I hope Agent Carter gets on Netflix soon, I still haven't had a chance to catch up...

Date: 2015-11-19 10:43 am (UTC)I knew I would end up liking it since it seems right up my alley (hip-hop + musicals, like holy shit), and it didn't disappoint. I love how it merges together and works so wonderfully. I haven't seen anything else aside from the pictures and stuff that has been circulating Tumblr, so I'll be checking out the interviews and other things from the cast soonishly.

I need to listen to the soundtrack again, but the ones that really stuck out for me were "Cabinet Battle #1" (because damn that one got me good, the truest epic rap battle of history), "Right Hand Man", "Guns and Ships", "Washington On Your Side" (this song goes hard, especially the "southern motherfucking democratic republicans!" part). Again, I need to listen to the entire thing again (and again and again) to really determine more of the songs a bit better and see which ones will grow on me overtime, but those are my favorites at the moment.
I don't have "The Dance" though, is that from Colonial Day?
It's from the third season, the episode "Unfinished Business" where we have the flashback to them being on New Caprica.
"Prelude To War" is such a hardcore track, and "The Shade Of Things To Come" will forever be the Six/Gaius anthem. I think my favorite track has to be their cover of "All Along The Watchtower", and the versions of "Apocalypse", which is the variation of the main theme. I have pretty much all the BSG OST, including Blood & Chrome and Caprica. Bear McCreary is possibly one of my favorite composers because he just does such a phenomenal job with creating music for a different range of things. ♥
