++ There is going to be a Van Helsing series, re-imagined with a female lead premiering on Syfy next year. Granted, I'm bitter and disappointed with them cancelling Defiance alongside the many other shows they have dismissed over the years, but women replacing male-led franchises? Yes, more of this please.

++ As he is in the comics, Deadpool is reportedly going to be pansexual in the film. I hope it holds true, since it'll be fantastic seeing proper representation of other sexualities that aren't straight or gay in mainstream media, especially on the big screen.

++ Many are probably aware of this emotional video that was uploaded back in 2012. I only knew about it since saw it reblogged all over Tumblr around that time, and it really got to me, as I'm sure it did everyone else. It was an effective video that made you care about sentiment machines and how you shouldn't play god with making and then destroying them. At the time it was just a short demo for something that would be later created. Well, something has come out of it now, as a new video game called Detroit Become Human will be launched soon. I'm really getting a Humans vibe from it, which is probably the point, and quite frankly I'm a sucker for anything that deals with sentient machines becoming their own person.

Women replacing male-led franchises definitely makes me very happy too. I'm not sure if I'll ever get to watching the series itself, but that is a reason to check it out for sure ;)

And Deadpool being pansexual makes me so happy for the exact reasons that you mention. I so hope that it's most definitely true (and hopefully the word will be used too ohmygod- can you imagine?).

I'm curious on how it'll be done and the direction it'll take, because as someone who isn't that familiar with Van Helsing I'm intrigued on what they plan on doing with it. It's one thing to have a woman in place of a male lead, but it's another to have the story be done well enough to work, you know?

It would be absolutely amazing if the term pansexual was actually mentioned in the film itself. I'm not holding my breath, though. But at least it's acknowledged by the director and the actor.

I just looked up Wynonna Earp, it sounds interesting.

I love pretty much anything that replaces male characters with women characters. Whether it be a simple change of a single character to just having an all-lady cast altogether. I am here for this, and I want it all.

I prefer stories focused on Dracula rather than on Helsing, so we'll see. All in all, I'm not big on stories about vampire hunters or witch hunters or any other kind of hunters where the supernatural beings are just there to be slaughtered. But it can also be so much more than that, like BtVS was.

I really hope they do something good with Deadpool and not just some vague text close to subtext.

Oh, I remember that video. The new one is really great as well. Thanks for the links.

But it can also be so much more than that, like BtVS was.

That would be amazing, if it turned it to be as such. Because one of the things I loved about BTVS was as it went along, the universe expanded to all the supernatural beings and not all of them were dangerous and were just minding their own business and living their lives. Buffy and her friends even befriended some of them and they helped every now and then. Now I don't know much about Van Helsing, but it would be fantastic if the re-imagined version would have a mixture of that as well.

I really hope they do something good with Deadpool and not just some vague text close to subtext.

Yeah, this is why I'm hesitantly optimistic. They can give lip service all they want, but how it's presented on the screen is what matters.

Ladies being the leads of what would be traditional male roles is what I live for, tbh.

I'm all about anything that explores the emotions and the autonomy of sentient machines.

I read about the new Van Helsing show yesterday. Sounds like it might be worth watching.

However, I had not heard about Defiance being cancelled (I’m way behind on TV shows right now) and that just broke my little fangirl heart. I have not seen the 3rd season yet and don’t want to look it up on the internet, because I don’t want to read too many spoilers, but does it at least have a “proper” (e.g. not a cliffhanger) ending?

I haven't seen the third season yet either (I tend to binge-watch seasons that I miss when I get the chance), but I heard that the finale was appropriate enough to be considered a series finale.

But it's really disappointing hearing that news. I would have thought after all the investment the channel had with it since the beginning it would have lasted at least one more season. But if that one more season meant executive meddling, then I'm glad it ended where it did. Despite the show being cancelled, they claim that they're still continuing the online game. So, at least there's that.

Well, at least that’s something. I really hate it when a show ends with an episode that clearly wasn’t meant to be the end of the show or is a cliffhanger. Also, if they do indeed continue the game than we might get to see how the story continues, even if it’s in another format. Better than nothing I suppose.

I guess we have to be lucky that it lasted for 3 seasons. I’m somehow getting used to shows being cancelled after just one season. Somehow it seems that whereas shows seemed to go on and on for years when I was younger, nowadays it’s a big thing when they last for more than three seasons.

I can definitely see where it has much potential. I'm sure once we get more information on what the series will entail we'll know for certain what new direction this re-imagined series will take.

Oohhh I'm curious about the Van Helsing series. I'm ALL for that. My Dad loves Van Helsing as well, and I'm sure he'll be interested!

I agree that representation outside of straight/gay is so very needed. Hopefully this holds true!

It's honestly sad that even the gay and lesbian representations that are out there today are often stereotyped by the mainstream media, never mind that even when you have characters who are clearly bisexual yet bisexuality is hardly acknowledged as an option, let alone talked about as though it is legitimate. I'm hoping that one day sexuality isn't something that is placed in a box but properly representation as normally as heterosexuality is. So this is why I'm hoping that Deadpool will have an onscreen acknowledgment on pansexuality instead of just an interview mention.

Show's probably worth at least checking out. Like the concept of women replacing the male lead anyway.

So excited about Deadpool!

It's certainly something I'm curious on the direction they'll take, and whether it'll be a dark story or something a bit more fun and lighthearted. We'll know more once we start getting closer to the production and premiere date, but regardless it has piqued my interest.

Huh. That's an odd choice for Syfy, since...you know, scifi tends to be more of their thing? But hey, if we get more female leads, I won't complain (except for the part where multiple shows have to be canceled for it).

From: [identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com
I wouldn't necessarily call it odd, since their track record with their programming (original or syndicated) has been quite interesting over the years, with very recently they've been wanting to get back to their science fiction roots (despite them cancelling their popular shows in order for that to happen, smh). That being said, I have always considered scifi and fantasy to go hand-in-hand with genre storytelling. So, it makes sense considering.

There is a lot of potential and opportunity here, and I hope they make the most of it. Also, I want a re-imagining of anything featuring mostly women, especially if there's diversity.
