Aria and the girls get more suspicious of Mike, Hanna is having trouble getting the financial needs for getting to the college she was accepted to, and both Emily and Spencer are dealing with people in their lives which may result into relationship issues.
Uneventful Episode Is Uneventful: A Rant
Sadly, these episodes in 5B haven't been really that interesting and it's harder for me to come up with things to talk about, honestly.
I still stand by my thoughts regarding Mike from my previous review. Again, this show has a tendency to always paint someone a certain way only for it to be revealed as a red-herring. Characters like our main four girls always jump to conclusions and until they start moving the plot forward and gather all those pieces to the puzzle we'll still be in this standstill of pointing fingers and getting clues that get jumbled up in the mass of events that have since been all messed around with.
As much as I love this show, it's been dwindling in the pacing for a while and keeps recycling the same stuff when dealing with the main plot. Also, having subplots and storylines like filler romances and rebounds and it's just boring. Yes, character relationships are important, but I wish they would focus on the existing relationships instead of trying to shove random characters into the girl's lives. I don't care about this guy with Spencer, I don't care about Talia and her marriage issues. I want the friendships between the girls to come into play, I want more inter-friendships with other people. Basically, 5B has mostly been focusing on the wrong thing when they really should be building more rapidly with the actual plot.
I think one of the problems is having extended seasons, with season five having twenty-five episodes ordered, it was bound to hit that lull. They just don't know what to do with all of that, and it clearly shows with all these filler episodes. /sigh
Things I liked about the episode:
++ Even though it was thoroughly sad, I felt for Hanna during this episode. I can understand having a nonexistent father who is uncooperative and doesn't understand you, and doesn't even bother to compromise when it comes to money situations and even supporting you. I've been there, I've dealt (and still) deal with that. Hanna has gone through so much that to be denied that kind of love and support is horrible. These are the kinds of storylines I feel are more important than anything else that isn't plot-related.
Things I didn't like:
++ Talia being married and hitting on Emily and making it seem like she was available even when she wasn't without even telling her initially, like the fuck. Also, why did Emily still accept her in the end despite all that? Even if Talia had an explanation, I wouldn't even bother dealing with someone who was still married and had complications with that relationship and where it was dealing to. Emily doesn't need more complications in her life.
++ Hanna's father is a jerk. We all knew this, though. Essentially, excluding Emily, all the girl's fathers are jerks or major disappointments.
++ I don't like that guy hanging with Spencer. They're obviously setting up for the whole Spencer/whatshisface possible fling or rebound while she and Toby are at a current standstill and I hate it. I hate that the show continues to pull these kinds of storylines. Idk. It's old and tired.
Overall: Meh pretty much sums it up. I'm just waiting until either the girls discover something new that reveals that they've been wrong about Alison and for the "A" stuff to get more interesting. They seem to be setting up for something, with the blood samples and the video evidence and whatnot, so I hope it's actually worthwhile to make up for all this filler nonsense.
