++ Richard Armitage has recorded an audiobook of his favorite collection love poems which you can download for free from Audible.com. The deal will last until the beginning of March, which is pretty sweet. Never mind the sweeter aspect of hearing Richard read love poems to you. ♥

++ Jon Stewart is retiring from The Daily Show. I'm heartbroken. I knew he wasn't going to be hosting forever and it was inevitable he would be leaving at some point, but it still makes me sad that he will leaving this year. And with Craig Ferguson and Stephen Colbert having already left their shows, it seems too soon. Certainly an end of an era. However, that shouldn't mean we don't have to be excited for the next era of TDS, which I'm with everyone else in the opinion that Jessica Williams should host. We need someone who can be the voice of reason, who can provide much needed humor and sarcasm to comment on shitty world politics, and I have enjoyed what Jessica Williams brings to her segments on the show.

++ I have no strong feelings regarding the news about Spiderman joining the MCU, especially since it was rumored a while ago that this may happen. The only thing I will say is this: with already three franchises, two reboots and five (soon six) films overall in a span of over ten years, it does seem a tad excessive. There are other superhero (and superheroine) origin stories they could bring forth instead of recycling the same one over and over again. Indeed there are many ways of telling and adapting the story, and it would be amazing to have Miles Morales or a non-white Peter Parker to be the new Spiderman, but I'm not holding my breath on that. And it does seem rather strange that they pushed back the premieres for Black Panther and Captain Marvel in favor of this decision. I don't know, I just feel like we needed someone new, someone else with an origin story that we're not familiar with to get their own franchise. Also, if they can push back other pre-planned Marvel films to make way for this, then they should have no excuse for not planning a Black Widow film and doing the same thing. Just saying.

Oh, man, this Jon Stewart thing. I am having too many feels. (Thought I do agree that Jessica Williams would be an excellent replacement.)

I also agree with you re: Spiderman. WHERE IS MY BLACK WIDOW MOVIE, WORLD?

I've seen so many people rallying behind the idea of Jessica becoming the new host that it'll be hugely disappointing if she doesn't get the job.

I am so going to enjoy listening to that, for sure.

Whuuuuuuuuuuu? First of all, Jon Stewart can't retire. It's not allowed, I love watching the YouTube clips. Second of all...when the heck did Craig Ferguson and Stephen Colbert leave their shows? I am so confused, I thought I moved from the rock I lived under.

They need to do a Black Widow film. Spiderman is just...overdone. Both Spiderman and Superman (I know that's a different world), they just keep trying to redo them the past...10 years(?) until they get it right, I think they should give it up.

They both wrapped up sometime in December. When they announced their departures early last year I was devastated, though with Stephen he is going to be taking over for Letterman on The Late Show which should be interesting.

That's the thing that bugs me, because I can understand wanting to do something better than what was previously done and perhaps try to take a different approach to the story (and some do that successfully), but so many people want to hop onto that chance on making their ~vision of what that should be and it is kind of, well, overkill. Especially with Spiderman since the Andrew Garfield films already happened, it seems too soon to start another one, even if it's going to be part of the MCU.

I'm so tired of remakes and redos. If it hasn't been twenty or more years, I don't want a new one. Ugh. Toby was great ♥

Totally checking out those poems!

I'm going to miss Jon :((

Yeah, it's almost like every other thing now whether it be movie or television is a reboot of a remake or whatever, and it's just so overdone. Even if something is successful at telling a quality story different from its predecessor, the whole remake phenomenon kind of ruins any excitement people may have for rebooting something. It makes it seem like media has no original ideas and just wants to bank off something that once was popular, but is now outdated.

And really, there are also some things out there that shouldn't be touched no matter what.

Ugh, I've found myself tiring of remakes and re-does too :/

Three franchises and two reboots should be enough X_x;

Like, I know there are so many different ways of telling the story, especially from something based in a comic book universe where literally anything can happen -- but there is such a thing as overkill when it comes to franchises. Why retell the same one when there are so many other characters that deserve a chance to shine?

As much as I love Spider-Man, I'm burnt out on Spider-Man movies right now. I would've been much happier with the schedule being left as it was and seeing a really well thought out Spider-Man movie come out for 2020. But at the end of the day it's about money for the studios, so they'll go with what sells. I just hope they pass on the origin story and do something more interesting.

Yeah, that's basically what it comes down to. There's really nothing that can be done about it now, so let's just hope that they are willing to do something new and fresh for the story that hasn't already been told.

I'm not a huge poetry fan. But I'd listen to Richard reading the phone book, so downloading.

I also have no feelings about Spiderman in the MCU because while I did enjoy Spiderman 2, Spiderman is not anywhere near my favorite superhero. I don't hate him, I'm mostly just neutral on him. Having a non-white Spiderman would make it better.

I'm not a huge poetry fan either, but hearing him speak so passionately about them during the interview he did for this audiobook just makes me smile. He's such a nerd. And I agree, I could listen to him read the phone book or an instruction manual and I'd still swoon. ♥

Oh, I heard about Richard Armitage's recording but kept forgetting to download it. Thanks for the reminder!

I've never really watched The Daily Show, but I did enjoy what I saw through gifs on tumblr, and I always liked Jessica Williams' segments the best.

I like Spiderman as much as the next person, but I'm starting to get tired of all the remakes too. I think the only way I'd enjoy a new one is if they choose to go the Miles Morales route (I feel like Alfie Enoch could do great things with that role) but like you said, I'm definitely not holding my breath. From casting rumors it seems like they're just trying to get younger versions of Garfield, sigh. The more of Marvel's plans come out, the more I feel like we aren't ever going to get a Black Widow movie.

You're welcome. :)

I'm just hoping that we do get Jessica Williams as the next host so we can enjoy more of her flawlessly breaking everything down.

I feel kind of bad for Andrew Garfield because he seemed to really love playing Spiderman, and while I'm not entirely certain about what went down behind the scenes but it really looks like he got shafted from the deal of reprising the role. And yeah, if they're looking for "younger versions" of him it means that it's less likely they'll try to do something new, re: non-white and different direction story-wise with the character. :/

And I want to believe they'll eventually come to their senses and make a Black Widow movie, but that likelihood becomes less and less as time goes on. :(

Thanks for the Richard Armitage link! Spent my entire evening swooning and trying to figure out how to turn an Audible file into mp3s so I can swoon in my car on the way to work.

Although, on reflection, perhaps swooning at the wheel of a car is not a great idea...
