Lost Girl 5.01 "Like Hell"

This was a great start to the final season, and what I'm hoping will be an improvement to last season.

I really liked that we immediately got right into going to Valhalla to save Kenzi. I also really liked that after seeing her there, that she was having second thoughts about her rescue plan. Obviously she wanted to bring Kenzi home, but if Kenzi was truly happy there, especially with the plans of having her be married to Hale when he crossed over from where he was residing from the other afterlives, then she wasn't going to intervene. She was placing Kenzi's happiness over her own selfish reasons for bringing her home, and I loved that she reassured her about that.

But of course, everything went to shit. Now Kenzi has returned back into her body in the mortal world and Bo is supposedly going to finally meet her father.

Which, I have to say, I got serious Buffy the Vampire Slayer vibes when Kenzi awakened in her coffin underground. The only difference is that at least Bo had the actual decency and brains to look and verify Kenzi's whereabouts, making sure she was okay and asking for her consent to return back to Earth if she was truly unhappy where she was and setting aside her own personal feelings on the matter for her friend's opinions, unlike fucking Willow, but I digress. Either way, I'm guessing either Kenzi is going to use the blade that Bo gave her to get herself out from her own grave (which must be traumatizing enough) or that Dyson and Co. are going to come help her out, and then it will be a race to get Bo back as well.

It's not unknown that I'm not Lauren's biggest fan, so when she told Tamsin that she hasn't sacrificed anything it made me really mad. Tamsin has sacrificed so much, so I'm not here for Lauren trying to guilt her into helping. Oh, and I'm so not here for the possibility that Lauren might turn herself Fae. It hasn't been mentioned on the show, but it's been implied with certain scenes, particularly with her ability to turn Fae into human and human into Fae (and that the Dark will be coming after her), and it makes me worried that they may go that route. Especially if it's for the reason that she can claim Bo which, no, I'm also not here for that.

THIS IS TAMSIN'S LAST LIFE, OH NO MY BBY TAM-TAM. D: AND SHE DOESN'T WANT TO LIVE IT WITHOUT BO! WITHOUT KENZI! WITHOUT HER FAMILY THAT SHE'S NEVER HAD IN ALL OF HER OTHER LIFETIMES! OH MY HEART IT HURTS. :(

However, she was pretty hilarious in this episode, from the "eat a sack of tits" to "HEEEERRRREEEE'S TAMMY!" What a gift. ♥

I'm sad that Kenzi didn't even get a chance to see Hale. I don't know if we'll even see him return to the show, perhaps only getting a little tidbit that he's waiting for Kenzi when it is finally her time for them to be together finally. Just, man, that sucks though. I know that the true love story on this show is the friendship between Kenzi and Bo (who were both adorable in this episode), and that is who Bo will choose and vice versa and that's how it should always be until the very end, but it still sucks nonetheless.

(Kenzi rocked that wedding dress, though, holy shit.)

In short, this premiere was pretty awesome. I'm hoping for more awesomeness for the remaining episodes of this show to come.

Oh, that ending. D: And I definitely got reminded of Buffy. I hope the guys will come to help her out of there, though I'm not sure they will. But at least she has that knife.

Tamsin is always great ♥ ^^ And I'm not against Lauren, I generally quite like her, but I got rather confused when she said that, about Tamsin not sacrificing anything. I was all, uhm, excuse me, I'm quite sure she's done stuff too? So I don't know where /that/ came from. (I hope things work out somewhat okay for her though. I want her to be okay ♥)

I'm sure we're in for quite a ride with this season. Looking forward to it! :D (and goodness, am I glad we got Kenz back. Or will. Whatevs. I honestly wasn't sure for a while, although they'd have to at least tie up that whole storyline, so /some/ Kenzi there would've been, but still. Well done on keeping that one quiet ^^)

I'm sure Kenzi will burst out herself, Beatrix Kiddo style.

I'm not sure where that came from, either. I mean, perhaps she might not know all of the sacrifices Tamsin has made, but she certainly knows about the most recently ones, especially with her defying the Dark Fae and having practically been raised by Kenzi all of last season. I get the feeling perhaps she might have wanted to get a reaction out of her. But still, it rubbed me the wrong way. TAMSIN LOVES AND CARES ABOUT HER LITTLE MISFIT FAMILY, OKAY? BO AND KENZI ARE HER PEEPS. DON'T YOU DARE SAY OTHERWISE.

I'm also worried about Tamsin, too. Idk what is going to happen with her, but I want her to be okay.

Yeah, I'm impressed with how they kept that a secret for so long. I was expecting the entire season to be fighting to get Kenzi back, but we did that in the premiere. Good job, show. :)

I gotta admit the last season was kind of sucky so I am happy to gear that things are looking up!

At least for now, anything can happen between the next episode and the series finale. But I'm crossing my fingers.

I do feel like it's time for the show to end, and for it to go out on a high note rather than drag on its feet, but I definitely will miss it. It's been my sexy crackalicious show and to not see my bbys is going to be rough.

I LOVED Bo and Kenzi's reunion, and all the 'test questions'. I was confused at the wedding that didn't take, though, about what Tamsin shouted about what rights Bo had and then it sounded like Valhalla was going to keep Kenzi, but instead sent her back to her body? It was just confusing. But at least we're finding out something about Bo's father now.

However. I read that Ksenia is going to be in less than half of the 16 episodes this season. Which is fucking stupid and depressing. Bo and Kenzi are the heart of the show. After a whole season of them miscommunicating, the last thing I want is for one of them to actually not be there. Sorry Ksenia, couldn't you wait one more season before doing something else?

There was a post I saw about how Bo's attempt to get Tamsin to help was by appealing to her growing humanity and feelings for Kenzi, whereas Lauren opted to go for the guilt card.

I feel like we'll probably get a vague hint that Hale's still waiting for Kenzi- probably in the form a letter from the afterlife, or something of the like, as opposed to seeing him actually on screen again.

That's pretty much accurate. Bo approached Tamsin with a level of understanding because, aside from knowing how she has grown to love humanity based on Kenzi practically raising her, Bo herself knows, from her own background, that you cannot treat someone with that kind of emotional manipulation and guilt trip them into doing something. Lauren, however, operated on that exact guilt tripping which has kind of always been her thing. Also the way she probably views Tamsin, as not a friend or an ally, but still an enemy despite her being reborn and raised by a human. Some will think it's an effective strategy, but Tamsin has proved her loyalty so many times (esp towards Bo and Kenzi) that even with Lauren's ignorance about the Valkyrie code of secrecy shouldn't excuse her behavior towards her, imho.

Someone else wrote a post about the way Lauren treats Bo sometimes, as well, with the way she undermines Bo's intelligence and the ability of making her own decisions. The more I think about her behavior, her mindset and the actions she takes throughout the series, the more it irks me.

Maybe if the remark was made sometime post s3, I could see where she might be coming from? But at this point in time, it's absurdly hard to believe that Lauren doesn't know what Tamsin's been through and not read her actions as anything but manipulative. Which I mean, she's got a history and penchant for, so.

I feel like it's a combination of both how her character's written and her story arcs are carried out that makes it really difficult to like her? S1, you could feel slightly sympathetic towards her in some regard, but afterwards it just becomes a lot harder.
