Christopher Eccleston won't be in 50th anniversary special.

This makes me sad. :(

Nine was my first Doctor. He was actually my introduction to Doctor Who in the first place. While we know nothing on what the anniversary episode will contain, and perhaps it was about the direction or that what they were planning on doing just didn't fit, it's still rather disappointing all the same. Especially since Nine is so under-appreciated and overlooked by most in fandom, I would've loved to have seen him make at least a brief reappearance even if just to be all, hey, he existed too, y'know.

That's very sad. Arguably, he's the one who re-energized the franchise in the first place, at least here in the States. :(

I feel like so many people forget about him because he only had one series, while Tennant and Matt have had several, so his rendition of the Doctor is constantly being overshadowed by the actors that came after him.

I'm so sad. I think they actually asked him, and he turned them down. Which isn't surprising, but is really sad.

There was rumors about him being in talks with Moffat before this official announcement, so it kind of got my hopes up just a little bit. I just miss him. :(

I just wish we could get every Who actor still alive. Not possible, but it would be awesome. I miss 9 too, though. And 10. I love all the New Who Doctors equally.

I know. :( I would to have at least liked him to be featured, if only for a brief flashback. Maybe they might do an actual flashback moment from scenes of S1? I can only hope....

I hope so too. It feels wrong not to have him in it. He was the one who brought the Doctor back, the reason there even is a 50th anniversary. And he is terribly underappreciated as it is.

Nine was my first Doctor(for this series, the other one was this terrible animated one that would scare anyone away from Doctor Who forever), and my favorite. I'm not surprised that he won't be back, but it is disappointing since I was hoping that he might just for one episode. When the rumors started I figured that if there was any truth to them that he'd be in a flash scene or something. ONE COULD ONLY HOPE.

Even if he doesn't appear in it, I'm hoping that at least we have some footage of his time during the show. Like clips being added to be seen as flashbacks and whatnot. Because for an anniversary special how can you not honor not just Nine, but all of the Doctor's regenerations?

Ugh, that sucks :(

DT was technically my first Doctor as I saw the series 3 finale after the first season of Torchwood, then went back and watched it from the beginning. But even though 10 was my First Doctor, 9 was my favorite before 11 came along and I'll always have a special place for 9 in my Doctor-loving heart :)

I love Nine, and I think Christopher doesn't get enough credit for what he brought to the role. Not to mention him bringing back the Doctor in the new series. Plus, his relationship with Rose was perhaps the best thing ever, imho.

That is too bad he won't be in the anniversary episode. I really like his take on the doctor!

I loved what he brought to the character, too! As someone else pointed out above, he's the one who reintroduced the Doctor to people in the new series. He brought the character back to life again. I feel like we should honor him for that at least.

Me too. I tried not to, but his recent interviews and meetings with Moffat had given me a teenie tiny spark of hope.

*sighs* Much as I'd have loved to have him there I'm not all that surprised, given what I've heard about how little he enjoyed his season as Doctor.

I'm also still bummed that Moffat's only bringing back new!Who characters, much as I love Ten and Rose, because it's supposed to be the Fiftieth anniversary of Doctor Who as a whole, not just the RTD & Moffat era, which is such a tiny slice of the whole.

I'd also love to have Jenny back and have the fact that there's a half Timelord running around adressed at some point, but I doubt that's going to happen either so I'm mostly just out of luck as far as that show goes I think.

I could be wrong, but I vaguely remember something being mentioned about Classic Who people coming for the anniversary? Or was that just something along the rumor mill?

Either way though, you're right. DW isn't just with the new!Who eras, it should incorporate everything from the entire run of the show from way back when. I don't know what is being planned for it or what it'll consist of. Maybe they'll find a way to use old footage of Classic Who as part of a "flashback" remembrance thing? Idk.

AND YES TO JENNY! Seriously, what happened to her? I want to know, but as you said, it's highly unlikely that they'll revisit that at all. *sigh*

I think it might have been rumor mill... last I heard it was confirmed none of the old Docs/Companions were coming back... of course that might have been rumor mill as well, so...

I just hope it doesn't end up as a clip show, if that's the route they go - though I doubt it, since that wouldn't give Moffat a chance to stroke his ego by showing off how clever he is. But yes, I'd love to have Ramona or FIve or Ace or someone back... I'd also like it if they announced Moffat wasn't producing it, since his stuff tends to be problematic on at least one axis, but ah well.

I just have a lot of Feels and Wants for this episode okay

Yeah, it just annoys me, because she was awesome and wonderful and something that could have had a lot of plot potential, and deliberately got left as an open hook that's just never been filled... also, she'd be perfect for said 50th Anniversary episode, because... well, hell, the actress who plays her is Five's daughter, and then she married Tennant, so y'know, links all over the place.

I'm actually wondering if the anniversary special is going to be tied into the mytharc in some way, and that perhaps they will add it to become some kind of clip episode (with old and "new" flashbacks) as a way of getting to "the Question that must not be answered" which, essentially, is where they're supposedly going to be getting at. Idk.

For real, though.
