Kevin Smith also loves Veronica Mars. He states in his online blog:

This is, hands-down, the best show on television right now, and proof that TV can be far better than cinema. The cast is pretty uniformly excellent, and the dialogue crackles. Excellent characterization – even with the day-players – makes it the most engaging new show I’ve seen since “Degrassi: The Next Generation”, but the heart and soul of the show is the relationship between Father and Daughter, Keith and Veronica Mars.

The fact that Kristen Bell and Enrico Colantoni (“Those poor people…” from the severely underrated “Galaxy Quest”) weren’t Emmy nominated proves how fucking out of touch and useless the Emmy Awards are to begin with. The tender and witty repartee between these two wonderful actors makes you want to be a better parent. And a big shout-out to Jason Dohring’s Logan Echolls - a masterfully designed and performed nemesis whose twists and turns are always credible.

Just when I thought my love for Kevin Smith couldn't get any bigger, his fanboyish praise for Veronica Mars is not only mindblowing but just makes me want to give him a gigantic hug. Both Joss Whedon and Kevin Smith are having these fanboyish reactions to the series. The fangirl in me has gone into squee mode just thinking about it.

Now if only J.K. Rowling would take notice to VMars, everything will be peachy keen in my fandom world, oh yes....

It's understandable that the mixture of Sci-Fi/Western would confuse some people, if not totally turn them off because -- well, it hasn't been done before! Joss crosses over two completely opposite genres into a well-crafted universe that has loads of depth. And that's what I loved about the show. While the complex situations don't suit you well, which I understand from your point, I was immediately drawed into the series from the preplexing storyline and genre. Also, there's more storyline and complexity to the universe Joss has created, which makes it a brilliant show; it's futuristic but realistic to how we, as humankind, could eventually become economically. But FOX never gave it a chance to develop what it could've become. Luckily, however, the movie will set up more answers and more questions for us Browncoats.

Believe it or not, there's differing people who are liking Firefly. Some Buffy fans didn't like Firefly at first, but non-Buffy and non-Joss fans fell in love with the series. So, it's a mixed bag depending on how you see it.

Wanna know the Chinese translations? Well, the Chinese is used for cursing and using profane/insulting language that is hidden from the censors -- "Stupid son of a drooling whore and a monkey", said by River, is one. "Fuck me blind" is another. Actually, I recommend buying the book "Finding Serenity", which is a series of essays concerning the Firefly series. All from different points of views. And there's commentary and a Chinese translator in the very end. It's fun. Highly recommended for in-depth Firefly goodness. :)

If I get into Alias now, I won't know half of what's going on! I'm thinking of renting the first season and watching it this weekend. Watching VM together as it premieres (depending on the time-ranging from where you live to where I live), it'll be exciting to chat about a show we love together! Yay!
