I have a brand new fandom obsession.

Lost Girl

For the longest time I've been wanting to watch this show, so over the last several days I have download and watched the entire first season and believe when I say that I am absolutely completely in love with this show. There are many things I find enjoyable about it. The mythology, the characters, the fact that we have a bisexual leading character that is a woman who is very comfortable with her sexuality, the way the show deals with sexuality as being entirely fluid and accepted without scrutiny, the adorable friendship between Bo and Kenzi, Kenzi in general (♥!), the music (♥), and just yeah. There is nothing I dislike about this show. So far, it's just absolutely wonderful. What's more amazing is how I have season two to watch, and they are currently filming the third season so I'll be all caught up to fangirl with the rest of fandom!

My favorite character though has got to be Kenzi. I love her. I want to be friends, and partners in crime, with her. Also ask her on fashion advice because her style is phenomenal. :)

Anyone else on my flist watch this show? I needs more people to flail with over it!

I LOOVVEEEE LOST GIRL. I've been a huge fan since it originally started airing in Canada a few years ago.

Love kenz, but dyson is my favourite!! I KNOW. PREDICTABLE. And also Trick. And also everyone. I just love everyone, I can't even.

This show is flawless and NEVER fails. There's no ups and downs, no bad episodes, nothing like that. Ever.

Seriously, I just love all the characters, they are all interesting and fleshed out and amazing and have amazing chemistry relationships with every other characters on the show. I fell in love with Kenzi first because, well, she's what introduced me to the show initially (due to many people loving her and I found her adorable and got interested) but the show itself has so many fascinating characters in a very elaborate and interesting world and the mythology is fantastic, and just yeah. I am head-over-heels over this show right now.

(It's funny though, I just had a debate on Tumblr over someone who liked the concept of the show, but thought it was horribly misogynistic, which puzzles me since I found the show to be the exact opposite of that....)

That's what I was trying to explain to them, in the most calm and rational way possible.

But according to them, apparently Bo being a sexually confident woman who happens to be a succubus is nothing more than the show exploiting her as a "sex doll" and used primarily for the "male gaze" because of her succubus nature. Which makes no sense, imo, particularly when you watch the show it's way more complicated than that and it kind of insults Bo's character since she is independent, strong and capable of many things aside from her succubus nature. I don't know, I tried arguing (in a calm manner) with this person but they seemed to be the kind that their opinion wouldn't budge no matter how much you debate. I'll just let them think however they want to, but tbh it's all ridiculous imo.

A male gaze sex doll who is pretty much the heroine of the entire show AND THE ENTIRE FAE COMMUNITY, LET'S BE HONEST, and who routinely saves the day with her female best friend forever through intelligence, fairness, and kick-assery.

That was my reaction too. It just baffles me they came to that conclusion at all.

I mean, from the outside I can see how one would think that without having any knowledge of the show whatsoever, but once you watch it, well, it should be very obvious that it's not that at all. Right? Of course some people take their SJW stuff far too seriously and create arguments and drama when there really isn't any need for it.

Seriously I didn't even know where to begin. That particular individual apparently strongly believes that women can't be sexual for their own means and pleasure and that chastity = self-respect.

Seriously, I really didn't understand what their argument was. I tried to, but it doesn't make sense because all I've seen with the show is pro-woman sex-positivity, and three-dimensional characters. This person seemed to say that, because the main character is a succubus, means that she is being exploited, and all other kinds of ridiculous claims. I mean, I'm all for pointing out problematic aspects in media, but Lost Girl is not one of those.

I found it rather odd. It's almost like someone calling Buffy not a strong woman character, but just another dumb blonde bimbo and anti-feminist. It just doesn't compute, and makes me scratch my head as to what these people are reading into.

I really like this show. It's made some storyline/relationship choices I could've lived without but overall, I still think it's really fun and I love ALL THE WOMENZ. But yeah...Dyson and Trick, I could live without. Especially Dyson, who reached new levels of douchery in season 2. But on the flip-side, Kenzi and Lauren got more awesome so...

I heard about Dyson in S2, which is a shame since I really loved him in S1 (esp during a few scenes he had with Kenzi that were particularly very sweet, almost in a big brothery kind of way)

But overall yes, I love the show primarily for the women and their relationships with each other. I love how the show really shows that a woman can enjoy sex and be comfortable with her sexuality, which is sadly a rarity to see on television nowadays. Plus, of course I simply adore Kenzi and Bo's sisterly friendship, they are both too precious. ♥

I think that's why I flew by with S1 because it was 13 episodes. Which, in my opinion, is a reasonable size that every show should follow. It would mean less fillers and make everything flow more smoothly.

I mean yeah I'm kind of on a high from this show since I've been marathoning it and it's my newest shiny fandom right now, but when you do have the time you should certainly sit down and watch the rest of it. All episodes of season one back to back to back. That's what I did and believe me, addictive as hell. And so much fun, and awesome, and strong women friendships and relationships and characters. :D :D :D :D

I adore this show! I've only seen season 1 so far but I enjoyed it so much, and enjoyed it even more when a marathon came on my tv and I could not turn the channel.

I really do love all the characters, I love the world! The only person I've been iffy on is Lauren (but that was because of season 1 stuff and I hope she gets better in season 2).

I mostly adore the relationship between Bo and Kenzi, it's pretty much on of the most amazing friendships/duos I have ever seen and they make me smile and laugh and FEEL!

I need to find time to watch season 2 :D

I know! I downloaded the first few episodes to see whether I would like it, and instantly I was hooked and had to download the rest of the season so I could marathon it properly. It's so addictive, and all the characters are awesome and the plot is amazing, and just everything.

I hear that Lauren gets more development in S2, so I'm looking forward to that.

Bo and Kenzi, their friendship is seriously the best. They are super adorable, and definitely one of the best I've seen in a long time, and that's saying something. ♥ Also, Kenzi, I just love her so much and how hilarious she is. My personal favorite scene is when Bo is accompanying her when she is playing the role of the Shaman, and she's just going all out with the role. God, I never laughed so hard in my life, lol! XD

Season 2 is a very different animal imo. I kept watching (and I'm glad I did) but it wasn't as effervescently fun as the first season. I think you too will have much to ponder on once you watch.

Someone was liveblogging the second season and mentioned that it was getting quite depressing, especially towards the end of the season. As long as it doesn't stray from the growth of the characters and progression of the story, I'm good.

Yes, there's a second season with 22 episodes. It was also picked up for a third season, which will be premiering in the 6th of this month! Three more days, yay!
