Hawaii Five-0: "Kalele" Episode Review

The case this episode was alright, purely for entertainment value and it was pretty awesome to say the least. It involved bringing Mary back, which is something I've been wanting ever since last season, and her interactions with Steve and the rest of the team still remain amazing. I like that the last several episodes have been coming back to the o'hana feel of the entire show. Which brings me to the main point of this entire post...
This scene is pretty much suggesting how Mary knows of their ~obvious~ husband relationship and how she is approving enthusiastically over it, I mean seriously she not only knew she would find both of them at a particular part of the beach, but she gives Danny a very knowing and giddy expression after saying, "that's so cute." And then, after this brief scene we have this little exchange:
HOW IS THIS EVEN REAL? ARE THEY -- THE WRITERS OR THE ACTORS, OR BOTH -- DOING THIS ON PURPOSE? BECAUSE SERIOUSLY, IS THIS HOW A NORMAL NON-SEXUAL TENSION CONVERSATION BETWEEN BROS WOULD EVEN HAPPEN? BECAUSE I DON'T THINK SO. Just with Steve's hesitating after Mary asked the question about him and Danny being "surf buddies", and Danny's expression, and then Danny having to be like, "Excuse me? Kind of surf buddies?" as if he's saying: "What, you're not going to tell your sister about us?" And this is all after the very opening scene with them too, with the surf boards, having their regular old married couple banter session. Danny ranting about Hawaii things and Steve just pausing to listen and looking at him with that soft affectionate expression on his face whenever Danny goes into one of his rants, lol. It was so adorable! ♥_♥
It doesn't stop there, either.
++ We have Danny secretly trying to organize a way -- which Kono and Chin -- how to surprise Steve for his birthday, with a birthday cake. Which he happened to know what kind of cake is Steve's favorite. I mean, of course he would know. ;)
++ Which later at the very end of the episode they surprised him with another cake, which Steve attempts to feed it to Danny, which he declines. Both times Steve tries to do so.
++ And obviously a lovely cargument scene.
Essentially, this episode was less about the actual case and more about these two being adorable ~husbands~ together. And Mary and Steve and their sibling bonding, of course. Because I have always loved Mary and wanted her to come back to the show, and we got her, Steve/Danny and her approving of Steve/Danny. I say, this episode was definitely a win-win.
Steve/Danny are becoming my substitute for Dean/Castiel right now, mostly because they are Dean and Castiel in certain ways (Steve being the Cas to Danny's Dean, jsyk.) Just less with the angst and more with the old married couple bantering.
