Certain things have pissed me off today

01. The E! Online couples poll which has reached levels of complete pettiness from both sides of fandom. It's a competition, so it's to be expected, but the childish behavior being exhibited is making me shake my head. From having both fandoms accuse the other of cheating on the poll to passing insults and even rallying other shippers to join in and vote against their opponent. I mean, come on you guys, it's okay be passionate about your ships and all, but be mature about it.

02. Chris Brown apologists. This one not only pisses me off, it outright nauseates me.

I've seen a mass amount of them on Tumblr, but seeing the comments and posts makes me incredibly angry. A lot of them aren't even being subtle with dismissing the entire domestic abuse aspect, many are excusing what happened by saying that "oh it was over like three years ago" and that everyone still complaining about this should just "move on" and "get over it" -- and just excuses after excuses and it's really sad and disgusting to see people just not get why we are angry and, and it makes me wonder why the hell they aren't angry themselves. This post details precisely why people should be angry and upset about all of this and why trying to defend Chris Brown adds more to our already problematically sexist society we live in. In fact, someone else pointed out that Kanye West got more outrage for stealing the microphone from Taylor Swift than Chris Brown got for hitting his girlfriend. How the fuck is this even justifiable? It's all backwards and there are people who just don't see that, and that? Above all, is fucking terrifying to me.

I will say this once: if you are defending or making excuses for Chris Brown in any way ("but we don't know what really happened that night", "even abusers deserve second chances", "but Rihanna could have done something to set him off!" -- and yes, people have been saying this kind of shit) then you need to fucking leave. That is a despicable and dangerous mindset to have, and I do not have the tolerance in dealing with it.

Oh, God, yes on Chris Brown apologist. Domestic abusers are scum, and anyone who says that abusing your partner is okay is just not someone I want to associate with. You know, if Chris had been actually sorry, if he had gone to therapy to make sure he never did it again, it still wouldn't be okay to apologize for him. To think he could maybe change if he worked at it, yes, but to think that his actions in that moment were okay is just so wrong. But the fact is, he was never really sorry, and he doesn't want to change. So that man is scum. I won't listen to his music, and I won't associate with anyone who thinks he is okay or thinks we should just forget what he did.

It is so disturbing to me that so many of his apologists are women. I blame some of it on Twilight, but most of it on our culture. The men who think it is okay make me angry, but the women also make me sad. Because they would be okay with that happening to them. I CANNOT with the Chris Brown apologists. Someone tweeted a link to this earlier as reason why it's disturbing and disgusting to glorify Chris Brown -- namely, because his fans, his female fans, are the first to excuse his actions, and if they excuse that kind of violence from their idol, what're they going to care if someone in their life does it to them?

I had the thought today that is kind of disturbing, but I wonder if the outrage towards the Kanye incident and the increasing disinterest towards Chris Brown's transgressions ... I just can't help but wonder if the public's reactions would be reversed, had Taylor been in Rihanna's place and vice versa. Problem is this kind of mindset is not uncommon, and in fact further demonstrates just how fucked up our society is.

That bugs me more than anything. That people can just overlook the fact that he hit a woman and defended his actions. Are these people blind or what? That they can't even see what's wrong with the picture but put the blame on the victim. It's bad enough that domestic abuse victims are often blamed for inciting the violence and that it's their fault. If it happened to their family, I wonder if they'll say the exact same thing they said. People like that make me sick.

The whole thing is just handled with such disgrace and insensitivity, it boggles my mind. I shouldn't be surprised, but I am, because whatever happened to people having humanity and decency? Just the amount of apologists out there -- from those in front of the cameras and people making comments from behind their computers -- makes me sick to my stomach.

The phrase "everyone deserves a second chance" shouldn't be tossed so freely, I think. There should be a line drawn because sure, some do if they should remorse and are actually, genuinely sorry for what they've done and attempt to change their ways, get some help. Obviously Chris Brown hasn't and that is what is getting to the majority of us voicing our contempt for how all of this has been handled. To me, Chris Brown is another male privileged scum who thinks he can get away with anything because he is a man and has money and has the fans and the fame, and even if he commits murder people would still run to his defense. It's a sickening aspect of our culture. >:/

After reading that article I wanted to stand up and applaud. It said things which people for the most part have avoided saying but so desperately needed to be said. I've seen first hand how horrific domestic violence is (the fact I had to be civil to the man in question in that situation killed me every single time), and to hear people making apologist comments in regards to Chris Brown, or any man makes me feel sick to my stomach. I just don't understand how women in particular are a fan of his, or are even attracted to him.

Its hard to judge because we don't know him personally, but I get the feeling he isn't. Words are one thing, but actions are another. He's done nothing to make me believe he is sorry for what he did. Maybe if he disappeared for awhile, maybe if he changed his public attitude, if he stopped on his "music" career and did something for people other than himself - or did anything different from how he acts now... /headdesk. I still naively believe that most people deserve a second chance, but that has to be earned.

What's unfortunate (and scary) is how common it is for women fans to immediately be apologetic. This reaction is done because of him being a famous artist, a celebrity, and so many are oblivious/don't want to believe the disgusting and horrific acts they've done. Other women actually don't care, given all the "I would let Chris Brown beat me up anytime" comments there were on Twitter.

What's more disturbing is how this isn't unlike the sick and twisted fascination some women have towards men, murderers and rapists, in prison/on death row. D:

Exactly. He has done nothing to show he has remorse for his actions, that he is apologetic and is willing to change his ways. I mean, shortly after what happened he was out celebrating for goodness sakes, and when people tried to call him out on it they were ignored or told to "apologize" for speaking ill of Chris Brown. All because of his celebrity status. This is where we should draw the line. In situations like this, second chances should be earned instead of freely given for the "just because" factor. Domestic abuse isn't something we should ever take lightly, regardless of who it is, and regardless whenever it happened. It doesn't matter whether it happened three weeks ago or three years ago, that shit stays with you and should never ever be forgotten. It should be a reminder that domestic abuse happens every single day, and by letting someone off just because of their title and status in this society it is sending out a horrible message.

It really is horrifying. It seems to some people that if you are a celebrity (especially one, someone finds attractive) no matter what you do, it's okay. There is a band I used to like a lot, but upon reading their autobiography I was horrified and disgusted to find out some of the things they did - especially with/to women. While they have since apologized and changed their ways - I honestly find it really difficult to like them or their music. The fact these women don't care, and then say Chris Brown can beat them up anytime - I can't wrap my head around it.

Oh lord, I remember discussing this in my law class back in high school. I personally blame the media for a lot of this. They paint these men as dark and brooding but reformable from a woman's love. Maybe that stuff does work, but most of the time ... /sigh. Our society terrifies me.

I also remember not long afterwards he posted pictures of his apparently swollen lips, which were apparently from Rihanna (as if that excuses anything. It's like he was trying to make himself a victim). I hate how most celebrities seem to get a "free pass," for doing horrible things. For all those who are disgusted with a celebrities behavior, there seems to be about three who love them for it or in spite of it. I just can't grasp why people re so quick to excuse his behavior. Why people still seem to worship the ground he walks on. You'd think it would be part of his "punishment" to stay away from the public eye for a while. Anyone who was truly sorry would do that. But no, I don't think he's sorry and doubt he ever will be - considering the twisted "good press," this has given him.

They repaired the poll now, but it's operated differently so whatever happened before doesn't happen again. I was wondering why they weren't doing this originally, but hopefully people are playing fair now (some are still trying to cheat the system even, seeing it advertised all over Tumblr) As much as I love Dean/Cas and want them to win everything they come across, this has become too much of a hassle just for some online poll competition. idk, fandom be craycray.

so many girls on twitter were trending defense of chris brown tonight during the grammys. and saying things like "he can beat me up anytime" or "i'd take a beating from him if he would just kiss me afterward". sick, just sick. how little our society educates about domestic violence and how it escalates.

I couldn't make it through all of them, just the first one made me nauseous. It's sickening and fucked up, and it's our goddamn culture and society that is to blame for this kind of mentality. Domestic abuse, no matter how long ago it was or how violent it was, is a serious issue that shouldn't be taken lightly and should have the proper punishment. The fact Chris Brown gets off is disturbing and frightening -- even more so with the rumors circulating around that he and Rihanna have gotten back together. While I doubt it, because I want to believe Rihanna has gotten stronger and is a smart woman and won't take him back, it still makes me incredibly fearful for her if these rumors are true because it's very common for women to return to their abusive boyfriends. Because of all these "second chances" and "but he didn't mean to" and all of that. This is a scary reality that many aren't considering.

I think they're fun and all, but this passed one turned out to be a huge mess, pointing fingers and ganging up on each other, and apparently whatever happened it crashed the entire poll. Never mind both sides having to justify why their ship deserves to win and by recognized. As much as I am defensive over my ships, sometimes you just gotta choose your own battles. This is one that I don't care for anymore, tbqh.

Chris Brown gets invited back with open arms and standing ovations after repeatedly beating up his girlfriend. The sexism and male privilege, it's disturbing, disgusting, and it should be called out more often. Unfortunately, this is Hollywood, their image is more important to protect than women's rights and human decency.

What's worse is how Chris Brown not only got to perform twice last night, but also won an award. That's the most disgusting part of all. He repeatedly beat up his girlfriend and he gets celebrated, and anyone that calls him out on this is immediately told to apologize, and he gets himself away with murder. While Rihanna, the victim, is being shamed and ridiculed and even blamed for what happened.

It's repulsive and just, it makes me rage so badly I can't even. This is our world, this is our society, the male privilege and celebrity status is more important than a woman being beaten. Sick.
