Indecision 2012: Presidential Election

rogueslayer452Michele Bachmann (thankfully) drops out of the presidential race.
Can't say I'm surprised, her entire campaign was a huge joke to begin with so it was only a matter of time before she dropped out. Good riddance, I say. However, this doesn't mean that the remaining GOP candidates aren't as scary, perhaps even scarier, with their views in their campaigning. Many are blatantly exhibiting their racist, sexist, homophobic, hatred and discrimination views so openly and proudly, and what's even more disturbing is how many people (mostly old, white folks) are buying into these things since it caters to their own paranoia and hatred and discriminative views.
What's worse, though, is how many (young) people are misinformed by some of these candidates.
I urge many of my fellow Americans to look up the candidates campaigning for the presidency, all the candidates from both sides. Don't go by just what you heard, but actually do thorough research on them, be knowledgeable on what they support, what they don't support, their personal views and how they may or may not be enforcing those views in their campaign (i.e. their religious agenda), etc. Since many young people are fed misinformation without doing proper research, this ignorance is potentially very dangerous in these kinds of elections. We all know what happened with the Kelly Clarkson incident, and it's way more common than you'd think. So get the facts and proper information through extensive research, don't rely on anyone else deciding for you, and make up your own mind on where you swing in the elections.

Date: 2012-01-06 05:59 am (UTC)Frankly, this election is scary. I'll definitely be voting for Obama because even though he isn't perfect and I don't always agree with him, he's the best option. Both parties frustrate me with their inability to compromise and actually get things done most of the time, but the Democrat party at least generally has views I agree with. Not sure who I'll vote for other positions, though. Frankly, Congress in general just pisses me off.

Date: 2012-01-10 02:10 am (UTC)It's also sad seeing younger people wanting to vote Republican just because Obama didn't fulfill what they thought he was going to accomplish. As if they are being "rebellious" or something. It's all backwards. I want to tell all of them that look, Obama is only one man trying to make sure he does his best, and try to compromise with both sides. Sometimes he'll make decisions that we don't all agree with, but people seem to focus on those things rather than all the positive things he's done during his presidency. He's accomplished a hell of a lot than Bush ever did during both his terms. And for those thinking that voting the opposite will "stick it" to Obama, well, all those things he accomplished? It will all be stripped away because the Republican party will take away all the rights, freedoms and equality from everyone and enforce their bigotry, as you'll see them proudly demonstrating in their campaigns.
Just, ugh. Political things like this make my head spin, and people not being rational during these times make it even worse.
