WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SCARY MOVIE?
Nov. 26th, 2011 10:27 pmI'm watching Scream 4 again because it's been a current obsession with me, well I love the entire Scream franchise in general, and from the DVD commentary there was something that really has me pondering and hoping for the future:
On the DVD commentary Hayden actually mentions the ambiguous ending for Kirby and says that her character wasn't supposed to have died in the movie. That was not in her contract when she signed on. And in fact, because the way the film was cut there's always the assumption that she could still be alive, just hanging on much like Sidney was at the end. So this has me hoping -- hoping, wishing, praying -- that they take that into consideration of how the script was originally instead of the theatrical cut that Kirby really truly survived so Hayden can return for the fifth movie. And yes, I am totally and completely biased. I really really loved Kirby, like out of the new generation she was by far my favorite. She was a mixture of Randy and Tatum, horror movie buff and just sassy and flat-out awesome.

With that said, I guess I'm apprehensive about a possible Scream 5, mostly because Scream 4 did very well and that is very rare to do by revisiting the franchise many years later and be just as good. The fourth did something very familiar that brought up the franchise again, being about the cliches and rules about remakes, so it makes me wonder how a fifth will top that or follow in that formatting. We had a trilogy, the remake, what comes after that? Are they planning on making another trilogy out of the new generation? Is anyone from the original going to die, like truly meet their demise for good?
See, these are the things I think about, because I love these movies so much I don't want them to disappoint by overstepping their own rules, you know?

Date: 2011-11-28 02:11 am (UTC)I didn't know Kirby was originally intended to survive! I would have loved to see her in the next one, but with the way they edited Scream 4 I think it would be weird to see her. Although, really, with how many things Gale and Sidney especially have survived, I guess it isn't too crazy. Kirby was definitely my favorite of the new generation too so I would enjoy seeing more of her.
See, I kind of am excited for Scream 5. I felt like Scream 4 did a great job remembering what the franchise is about so it gives me hope for the next movie. After Scream 3, I was really concerned when I heard about Scream 4 (besides the huge gap of time) because I felt like Scream 3 was really weak compared to the other two. But four went back to the right balance of the fun Scream stuff (cliches and rules and meta Stab references like in the two fake movie openings) in with a illegitimately good scary movie. The ending was perfect. So I have hopes that they will make Scream 5, if not as good as 4, at least still an enjoyable Scream movie. :)

Date: 2011-11-28 03:40 am (UTC)It really isn't. Also, since the fourth was about going back and paying a tribute to the original trilogy, they could have played it out with what they did with Dewey in the first film. He was stabbed, you thought he was dead, but we see him being taken into the ambulance in that stretcher at the very end. And since the last shot we ever see of Kirby was her still alive just after Charlie stabbed her and hurried away, they could easily pull that off.
Eh, I'm going back and forth with how I feel about a fifth movie. I was worried for the fourth, and then they exceeded my expectations greatly and it made me very happy that they did the franchise justice. But it makes me wonder what comes after the rules and cliches of a horror movie remake, and what else can they do, and will they do something different (like kill off one of the golden trio), etc.
IDK, I worry when it comes to these things.
