New Warehouse 13 interview with Joanne Kelly.

Reading this, aside from squeeing over Myka and H.G. Wells, I agree with Joanne on the topic of Myka and Pete.

Personally, I never shipped them. I've always seen their relationship as something very brother-and-sisterly and nothing more than that. It was never played on a romantic level, however some see the subtext between them and you know what? That's absolutely fine. It's all quite subjective, you either see it or you don't, and I like that the show doesn't really confirm or deny anything between such characters. It just lets you ship whoever you want to without debunking anything and without taking away the chemistry and dynamic. They just let you have your fun without ruining the character relationships canonically, and that's something I've always loved about this show. In fact, I've always thought that most shows would be better off if they had more subtext than actual romance stirring with characters, you know? Sometimes subtext speaks way louder than an official hook-up, I'm just saying.

Found you when I did an LJ search looking for Warehouse 13 communities (it popped up as one of the posts)... but I just wanted to say I completely agree with what you've said up there - you put it so much more eloquently than I ever could. Many shows would be better off if they didn't try and hook their main characters up with each other, and instead just let the viewers see what they want to see. With Warehouse 13, I love the subtext between Myka and HG (and I love that both Jaime Murray and Joanne Kelly ship them as well), but I like that if you wanted, you could ship Myka/Pete (though I've also seen them as having more of a sibling-type relationship) or even Myka/Claudia, or whatever you fancy.

And wow, I rambled quite a while... Basically, my point is: ITA.

Yeah, and sometimes subtext is all you need. I've seen too many shows destroy two character who had amazing chemistry together all because they wanted to play the romance angle, and it royally messed everything up. I mean, sometimes it can work out surprisingly well, but other times not so much. I'm just happy that WH13 isn't going with that cliche of such shows like Bones and Castle where the partners, who are total opposites, getting together. I love their silly family dynamic without the added romance baggage. I'm happy that Joanne mentioned that (even though TVGuide really was trying to convince her otherwise, which annoyed me with this interview just a bit.)

But anyway, now I'm rambling. Thank you for your lovely comment. :)

Those were the two shows I was thinking of, actually (that, and Fringe) - though I can see why people ship the two ships they do, I've personally always liked the shows better when they weren't trying to hook them up. I did finally get used to Booth/Brennan, but am still trying to get used to Castle/Beckett.

The family dynamic of W13 is my favourite part about the show. I love that TV Guide kept on with the "oh, what about Pete," "oh, what about Steve" - and she just shuts them down completely. I'm a bit worried that as we go along, the show will go there with Pete and Myka (as other shows have later down the line), but I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens!
