Osama Bin Laden is dead.

This comes as being somewhat surreal, it being just about a decade since 9/11 occurred, and him being one of the world's most wanted elusive terrorists. Until now.

Also, I want to thank President Barack Obama for saying that we aren't at war with Islam, that Bin Laden was a mass murderer of Muslims as well, and that we shouldn't be blaming or attacking Islam for his heinous and inhumane acts. This is something I wish many Americans would get through their heads that Islam is not the enemy. So, hearing it from his mouth at his speech just now makes me happy and hope that people will listen to that. His entire speech was fantastic, such a wonderful speaker.

Also, I'm slightly tickled at the amount of coincidences this day brought due to this news, jsyk.

Yes! I also approve of your post. I didn't start out an Obama fan, but he has really grown on me. While I don't always agree with him, I share his passion for world unity and peace. I love that he made it clear that these terrorists don't represent Islam and that they often kill many Muslims too.

Seriously, every religion has its adherents who do horrible things in the name of their religion (and heck, there are atheists who've done bad things too). Those people do not represent the majority of their religion. People will always find the excuse to do the things they want to do. If it isn't religion, it is race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and anything else that they use to make themselves feel superior.

There are good and bad things about every culture and view point, and people who follow the more moderate versions and those who stick to the extremes.

It baffles me that people cannot understand this very simple logic. Unfortunately there are so many people in this country that believe in the bullshit that propagandists spew out (aka FOX NEWS) that it's both sad and disgusting at their level of ignorance and choosing to remain in that ignorance. Seeing so much hatred just because someone is Muslim or who are Middle Eastern is just absolutely appalling. There was a news report earlier this year about an Indian man who was beaten because someone thought he was Middle Eastern, and that he had an accent, and they called him a terrorist. It's just, totally fucking appalling to me. :/

I'm happy that Obama made that speech, because he's absolutely right and hearing that last night just made me love him even more. ♥

Like I said in your post, there's a string of emotions being let out from this. I think it's a surreal moment for many people that it seems hard to really understand how we should feel about.

I've seen this quote floating around by Mark Twain in regards to this news, and I think it sums it up quite nicely:

"I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."

And yeah, I really hope that many people take to heart what he said about us not being at war with Islam but rather with terrorists, any terrorists which can come from anywhere. Unfortunately there are plenty of bigots and racists in our country that it doesn't matter what our president will say they will continue on with their Islamophobia, which is just disgusting.

That was actually Saddam Hussein, who was the president of Iraq and a despicable dictator. He was captured in 2003 and was executed in 2006.

Osama Bin Laden was a terrorist leader who was one of the founders of Al Qaeda, and he's practically been in hiding for the last ten years since the 9/11 attacks. Which is why hearing his name now is bringing up a lot of memories and emotions from when the attacks happened, because there was a lot of talk around that time about Osama Bin Laden being behind it but it was nearly impossible to capture, and over the years we barely heard much about him until today.

Also, as great as it is, I doubt it's going to change anything. If it has any effect, I'm fearing it'll be quite the opposite..Raging his followers =/

It is true that this doesn't change much regarding Al Qaeda since they are still a threat, many are fearing that there will be retaliation because U.S. soldiers killed one of their founders and leaders of the terrorist group, and those following in his footsteps will want to take action. This knowledge that it can go either way is pretty damn scary, and I hate having that feeling because this is the reality we live in. Even in times when we feel somewhat relieved we have to prepare for the worst case scenarios. :(

Oh wow. I came home to find tweets on him being dead. My first thought was, is it real or just another lookalike but after so many news, it's clear that it's true.

Bin Laden may be dead but the war on terrorism will still continue.

Everyone's fearing for another retaliation, which is understandable. As long as our guards are still up, we're better prepared with reinforcements than we were before. Which isn't exactly reassuring because we shouldn't be fearing about being hit by another attack at all, but that's the reality we're still facing.

Terrorism will continue to exist, and we'll continue to prevail it. As Obama mentioned in his speech, we still have a long way to go with this fight, but Bin Laden was the first major step in the right direction that we've been trying to accomplish for ten years. That's something.
