30 Days of Harry Potter: Day Six
Apr. 4th, 2011 04:13 pmDay 6: What house would you want to be in?
I'm partial to be considered Slytherclaw, myself. ^_^
In all honesty though, I have issues with the Housing system in general because it is fundamentally problematic on many levels, particularly with the issue of segregation and the stereotypes that come from that. Being in a particular House shouldn't define who you are, and this is something of much debate with how this is represented in the books.

Date: 2011-04-06 03:37 am (UTC)I feel like Harry wouldn't have had any frame of reference at all for Slytherin vs Gryffindor vs a hole in the wall at sorting without Ron. He just wouldn't have known any different.

And this brings back my all-time favorite theory about what would have happened if Harry had been sorted into Slytherin, and how controversial that would have been to have The Boy Who Lived to be in Slytherin instead of Gryffindor. Harry, not knowing any different, wouldn't see the big problem and wanting to still be friends with Hermione and Ron, but finding the difficulties of the prejudices found within the House verus House and determined to break that mold, especially with proving that not all Slytherins were bad (which is a huge stereotype presented in the books that I wished was elaborated further that while the majority of Death Eaters came from Slytherin, not all Slytherins were Death Eaters or supporters of Voldemort.)
As you can tell, I have many feelings on this subject. ;)
