Day 25 - Something that you wish happened but didn't

More elaboration on Castiel's mission to find God. Seeing as how that seemed mega important with what they were dealing with, I figured we would be getting something out from his personal quest. At least an episode or two detailing what he's been doing, who he's been seeing, what kind of battles and fights he's been getting into when encountering his brothers who want to kill him, and everything else in between to really sense his struggle with his own faith. Never mind the entire amulet thing, which has been completely forgotten. Moreover with his mission this season with handling the civil war happening in Heaven, which has only been mentioned but hardly shown as of yet. I hope that gets some screen time soon, otherwise I'mma cutting a bitch.

Background on Uriel and his conversions. I found him quite fascinating, and learning that he was recruiting other angels onto his side of wanting Lucifer to rise, I felt like there needed to be more regarding that whole situation, and was disappointed that was hardly even mentioned again.

An epic showdown in the S5 finale, which again was a huge letdown and disappointment. Come on people, this is a biblical apocalypse for crying out loud! Low budget be damned, make it worthwhile.

Dean to have had a payoff with his storyline which was incredibly interesting with his character development. Instead, it was just tossed away.

More with the angels in general, actually. You give us this incredibly fascinating piece of mythology of these otherworldly beings, and yet hardly elaborate more with them even if you're dealing with something like an apocalypse and a civil war happening in Heaven. These things are more than just background noise, they are essential to the plot and story itself. I wanted more information about Lucifer, to understand his motivations like the rest of the angels. I wanted more of the archangels, the hierarchies, how many angels are in a garrison, was Michael in charge this entire time? What about the Heaven? What's it like for the angels? You know, things like that. Don't wave something rich and delicious in front of our faces and then take it away.

For Dean to go off by himself in the S5 finale. To leave everything behind and start anew by himself, create his own independence at a different life outside of hunting. That would have been the Dean Winchester thing to do that would have made sense with his character development right at that moment. And yet.....

Ben Edlund to take charge of the show. Or for Jeremy Carver to have stayed while Sera Gamble got kicked to the curb.

For Katie Cassidy to have stayed as Ruby, or never brought Ruby back at all if she couldn't.

GABRIEL TO COME BACK. ;__; Or that he hadn't died at all and joined Team Free Will indefinitely and helped them in this war.

CROWLEY TO HAVE SURVIVED AND JOINED THE PARTY TOO.

DEAN/CASTIEL TO HUG ALREADY, DAMMIT!

There's still some kind of hope that there will be one, however that will only happen if Ben Edlund writes it because seriously, I trust no other writer on the show to do their long overdue meaningful and profound hug justice. I mean seriously, they're friends and boyfriends obvs, they have a profound bond that has been forming since the fourth season, why they haven't hugged it out already is still a huge mystery. Stop making Dean act like a complete jerkoff, have him apologize, and have them hug it out, dammit Show. It's not that hard, nor is it implausible considering the kind of connection they have and everything they've been through together.

Let's be honest, there's a lot of things I wished happened on this show that never did. It's either fannish wishful thinking or something that would have been incredibly plausible and should have happened, instead they went in an entirely different direction that has me scratching my head in confusion. Interesting how most of these wishes are coming from the recent seasons and not earlier, hmmmm.

This one event would have fixed SO MUCH that's wrong with this season. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Gabriel back for for Dean and Cas to hug, but as far as something that would majorly change the show that I'm watching, this is it.

Most definitely. Granted the writing needs work too but, if anything, the domesticated storyline is just unneeded and it adds more frustration and anger and confusion than anything else.

Dean would have been better off by himself, trying to live his own life and figure shit out. It would have been the in character thing to do, and I was expecting that to happen, too. It just made so much more sense than what actually did end up happening, thus wasting so much time with destroying characterizations and motivations that hardly make any sense. Just, no.

What are you talking about? Dean has always yearned for a family, and it makes PERFECT SENSE that he would go to Lisa.

While he might have craved for a family setting and envying such a lifestyle that he can never truly have, going to Lisa was perhaps the worst decision ever because he placed both his personal, emotional baggage and danger on their doorstep. Dean Winchester has more sense than that to invade someone with his troubles. Even if it's meant to be not right and a mistake on his end because he's psychologically fucked up after everything to know any better, that's not how it's been displayed on the show itself. Which makes everything else seem incredibly all over the place with what in the hell they are accomplishing with this "playing house" storyline.

So yeah, that argument is highly debatable because really, wtf?

There are people who think the Lisa thing makes perfect sense. Really.

It makes sense that Dean actually has been thinking of Lisa since S3, it makes sense that Lisa wants Dean in her life, it makes sense that Dean should try and have a family. He had an instant connection with Ben, who's probably his real son, anyway. And he thought his troubles were over, the Apocalypse was finished. And what else was Dean supposed to do? He promised Sam. And he wasn't functional on his own, so of course he needed to be around other people. Dean finds meaning for himself through others. And Dean has always wanted a family, how dare you say he can't have one! There's nothing weird about how Lisa was brought back! We saw her in Dean's dream in S3! Dean and Lisa care about each other! They're two people doing the best they can with what they have! Also, people clearly only hate Lisa because she's a woman, and is taking Dean away from Sam and/or Cas.

It's so interesting when these kinds of arguments come up. While it's an interesting look at how some people view the situation, since the show hardly has shown us anything to be convinced of anything solid, I find it hard to believe that Lisa and Dean are "meant to be" or had a "deeper connection" than just him fucking her once. There is nothing convincing or believable about that from the show, and if they're trying to convince us now, that's too little too late my friends.

Also, people clearly only hate Lisa because she's a woman, and is taking Dean away from Sam and/or Cas.

Well, there is the whole "show says it, so it's true" argument. That also goes along with the idea that characters can't do anything OOC, because they did those things in canon, so therefore it's not OOC, even if you don't like it.

Yeah. I might not like the idea of domestic Dean at all, but I would have SO MANY LESS gripes with it if it had actually been developed as a story line. But the way it was tacked on was just insulting.

So much word on the angels! I mean I know Sera doesn't like them (like she LOVES Sam) but they are a VITAL part of the story arc so more explanation would be nice.

And so much word on Castiel's God Quest and Civil War arc. I mean they talked about it and imply how much of a big deal it is but they don't SHOW us anything! It's very aggravating!

OMG YES! Dean spending an entire year on his own trying to figure himself out and what truly matters to him and trying to figure out WHO he is would have been so EPIC and WAY MORe interesting than some domestic storyline. I mean really? Dean with a wife and kids is just so mundane and boring! I can read about it but I don't want to watch that on TV!

Never mind that these things are hugely important to Castiel's character growth and development should factor in as well, and the impact it has to the overall plot and story. Instead they continue dragging on the same-old Winchester angst and while yes, it is essentially their story, there are other pressing matters to be concerned about. I want to know more. There's so much rich material and opportunities to dig deeper into the mythology, but they rarely if ever do. It's just wasted potential and one of the biggest disappointments of the show overall.

The fact that the domesticated storyline exists in the first place is offensive. I feel offended on behalf of Dean Winchester, who would have had the brains to not get into this situation in the first place. :/

You know, I was ready to take the mumbled apologies, if it meant that Dean and Cas were FINALLY going to be back on the same page, but then we had the Cas anger over putting Sam's soul back in, so it doesn't seem like they're going to have a relationship that's anything but antagonistic at this point.

Judging with how they handled his character in the fourth season, I thought that once they made him a series regular they would do practically the same thing with giving him more elaborated character growth and develop. It's sad seeing that S4 is the only season where there was a huge development for his character, whereas they have limited time for him after that. It's like, what is this? He is a vital character with a story of his own too, you know. We need more "On The Head Of A Pin"-esque episodes featured. We need more information and screen time for the angel-side of the story, as well.

Agreed on all points. It really was a shame they didn't show Cas' search for god (or the angels in general) because it could have added so much to the show.

It is, and it isn't like the show has a huge ensemble cast that it's limiting to what they can do with other character storylines or anything. I know that Dean and Sam are the main focus but, seriously, that doesn't mean you place everyone else on the back-burner.
