30 Days of Supernatural: Day Eighteen
Feb. 7th, 2011 10:56 amDay 18 - Your favorite SPN romance
Sam and Jessica.
I always had a soft spot for them being together, you could tell that Sam really loved and cared for Jessica. She was good for him, and he was for her.
Also, I honestly feel that Sam/Jessica are the only genuinely real, believable and healthy couple on the show. Everything else the show has done in terms of "romance" seems rather rushed and forced in an unconvincing and sometimes disrespectful manner, whereas with Sam and Jessica they had more warmth and respect and there was definitely a connection, a chemistry between them. Plus, the fact that Jessica is rarely seen in a negative light by fandom is one of the rare upsides. I don't know whether it's because she was only featured in the pilot, with some scattered cameo appearances here and there, which was before the female-character bashing that started happening as the show progressed or the fact that she was Sam's first love that makes her off-limits to that kind of judgment, but I consider it a blessing that she isn't hated or disliked since I really think she was the most honest thing Sam has ever had in his life and, again, they were good together. I do believe had Sam told Jessica she wouldn't leave him or anything, but try to make sense out of things.
In fact, my personal canon scenario is that Jessica didn't die in the pilot and that, after learning the truth about Sam's past, goes on the road with the Winchesters and learns to be a self-sufficient hunter herself. :)
Following closely would be John/Mary because, how can I not? They did wholeheartedly love each other. I just hate how the show is making it seem like John turned into an asshole before Mary's death. That's just not fair. :(
Rest of the 30 Days of Supernatural Challenge.
Icon not in relevant context, I just don't have any romance-based ones for the show unless it's slash-related so I'm substituting from another fandom, lol.

Date: 2011-02-07 08:52 pm (UTC)John/Mary on the other hand.. Although some would argue that they were only together because of the Cupid, I think they genuinely fell in love with each other at some point. Or that's what I want to believe. Plus they were a beautiful couple, both young and old. John was a man with a temper quite early too, but that's why Mary was good for him- she was a calming presence who made him feel at ease and in control of his life etc etc. Or that's the impression I got. Cupid or not, I think in the end they were good for each other. (But then Some Burning Happened and..)

I agree, and the thing is the entire thing with Cupid, I think that was to solidify the getting togetherness between John and Mary, but they really genuinely loved each other. And that's the thing, is that people can really like and/or love another person, but they don't get together. Even with the entire situation about them finally hooking up was all Destiny's setup, I truly believe that Mary and John were definitely in love before that and Cupid's touch was just the icing on the cake for them to solidify their love.
I think what I don't like is how the show is trying to paint John Winchester being such a Horrible Man even when married to Mary, particularly when Dean mentions that their marriage was only good after she'd died. That's just not right. Granted, that's just his perspective and he's harboring his resentment towards his father after all this time, but still.
I do agree with you though, I think John and Mary balanced each other out, even if they had bad times they were able to work through it. Gotta love John/Mary. ♥

Date: 2011-02-08 08:27 am (UTC)Yeah, I don't like that perspective either. I don't think John was a ~terrible guy~ even before he got married, but that just might be me defending the guy to the ends of the Earth. I honestly think he was a very good man who didn't have an easy life- not to mention he was at war, that's bound to change people. No matter what, I think they loved each other through thick and thin, so much that John flipped when she died.
I dunno how much Dean's point of view can be taken for real, since he was only a kid when Mary died and I doubt John would have told him afterwards that their ~marriage was falling apart~ or something. :/

Date: 2011-02-08 01:57 am (UTC)Although Jess was only in a handful of eps she's one of my most favorite female characters from this show. I absolutely loooved them together and I wish we'd get more flashbacks with her. Also, her actress Adrianne is fucking gawgeous.
