I'm gonna switch it up here and talk about one of my newest obsessions: Nikita.

I am totally in love with Nikita, like you have no idea. I'm not going to spoil anything for those who haven't yet seen this fantastic new CW series, instead I'm going to gush over how utterly impressive this show particularly with casting Maggie Q who is, in my opinion, a fine choice in playing Nikita. She is my new wifey, in fact. ♥ I find it amazing and empowering that not only is this show featuring a strong female lead role but she's a minority female lead which, in this business unfortunately, finding Asians to carry on their own show of any kind is rather rare and needs to happen more often. So I'm grateful they gave her a chance and lo and behold, she is kicking so much ass. There just needs more empowering female roles on television in general though so, I hope to God this series sticks around.

Unlike most CW programs this one is promising in fast-paced action, which Maggie Q does the majority of her own stunts and you can see clearly in many scenes that it's mostly all her (which get it, girl!) since she is trained in martial arts from being in many international action movies, the plot is intriguing and the other characters as well. There's also tons of unresolved sexual tension between certain characters and a powerful relationship with another pair and it makes it even more interesting to watch without too much melodramatics being involved.

There aren't many shows on today that I can recommend enough, and with certain shows being canceled left and right I really want Nikita to succeed, it's already been ordered a full season so that's good. Let's hope it keeps up because I absolutely love it and I want to see what directions they take the show.

Did I mention that I love Maggie Q? Seriously. ♥

At least it's getting recognized for being awesome, everywhere I go I hear people having more positive reactions to it than negative. Which is a good thing. It does need more praise in the general sense, but it's just getting started and for a new show this season I think it's doing very well.

I don't watch Mikita, but I'm hoping does well too, if only because I heard so many good things about it and it's NOT standard CW fair (ie teenage melodrama).

Which is kind of surprising in and of itself, since the CW demographic is targeted towards teenagers. Not that I'm complaining of course, I think it's fantastic they are going outside of their normal kind of programming of those genres and heading into a more "girls kicking ass, taking names and not being emo about everything" territory. We need more of that variety back on the network, and in general.

I understand the hesitation since you are a fan of the original, though this is more of a re-imagining of the original French film, which spawned the American film which spawned the original television series. So it's more or less following the same plot/story setup but handling it with a different flare, just like the others.

So I think it's safe to say that even with being a fan of the older series you'll end up enjoying this one regardless. :)

I felt the same way. I own the original La Femme Nikita series... but this is almost a continuation of what might have been off of that. Plus Michael is cuter and younger... same love for Nikita.

Try it to about Epi 5.
Watch for Michael's reactions on Nikita. AMAZING!

god, but maggie q's gorgeous.

saw the first episode a few weeks ago, and powered through the rest of it, and just, christ. so good. naturally, there's a few (but small) things i've not been so keen on, but mostly? fuck yeah. i love that it's a show with strong women who don't instantly fall for the nice guy who saves their life. (say, alex. you go, girl!)

Damn straight, strong independent women kicking some ass and outsmarting people. \O/ Although I heard the network is gonna "revamp" it midseason and have there be a love interest posed for Nikita which, fuck no. Nikita has other plans on her plate than that same-old melodramatic bullshit. She got no time for it, she's a woman on a mission. But that's the CW for you, ruining shows just for ratings. :/ But I don't think it'll change that much, it's doing fine by itself where it is.

And really, we need more shows like this.

I'm a little hesitant in watching this as I did watch the original and um, I seem to have this bad luck of getting into shows that end up having very short life spans.

But I'll give it a try seeing as it's Maggie Q and she is just hot. She reminds me of Michelle Yeoh.

Well, like I said above it's more of a retelling from the original French film just with some added flares. I understand being dedicated to one of the originals though (ex. I am reluctant of the new Narnia films because MY Narnia are the BBC miniseries versions), but I think it's definitely worth looking into just to see. Everyone has their version of Nikita, whether the films or the original series or this newer one. It's all the love of the story. :)

OMG MICHAEL/NIKITA! THE UST IS TOO MUCH! I love the little moments where Michael has these twitches in his expression hearing about Nikita, like how Division thought she was dead and realized that she wasn't. He was on the verge of smiling before correcting himself. IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS LIKE THAT! Heeee!

And I love the relationship between Nikita and Alex. That are bamfs together and it's awesome. <333

I'm not entirely sure it "makes" the show per se, but it adds A LOT of layers to Michael as a character and his relationship with Nikita, and it really shows how much he cares for her. With the last episode we left off though, I'm wondering how that's gonna go down now, because that was simply heartbreaking. D:

The network should seriously butt-out of any decision making as far as what directions the show should go in, Nikita is perfectly fine without adding some random dramarama into the mix when it already has enough action/drama to keep audiences entertained. I mean, I get that they are a network that tries to target their main demographic, but this show doesn't fit that criteria and it's still doing fine.

I seriously love the fact that this is not what CW normally shows. That Shane West is so drop dead sexy and that his acting is so tight on this show that I am constantly surprised when they reveal more of his relationship with Nikita. Maggie Q was not someone I was looking forward to seeing play Nikita and I AM SO GLAD SHE IS!!! She embodies the hate for Division that Peta Wilson started and the unabashed attraction and pure love for Michael that Roy Dupuis and Peta Wilson created.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this show.

Hee, as you can tell I've been getting into quite a few new shows since we've last spoken with each other, Nikita obviously got my attention because it's about girls kicking ass and seriously how can I resist something like that? ;p I'm not entirely familiar with the original Nikitas (both films and the original show) but I do know the main story concept, which this show is a continuation of and it's been doing very well in keeping the balance of Nikita being a smart woman who kicks loads of ass but is still vulnerable at the same time. Also, I love Alex too, because she's smart and I love the relationship she and Nikita share, it's very much a surrogate mother-daughter thing. ♥

I LOVE THIS SHOW TOO (obviously)! I WANT THIS SHOW TO SUCCEED BECAUSE WE NEED MORE KICKASS WOMEN ON TELEVISION RIGHT NOW!
