Looks like it's going to be the year for Alice in Wonderland recreations, as the first will be Tim Burton's take in the upcoming film, which has been talked about nonstop, and the more intriguing SciFi Channel original miniseries Alice, which is a re-imagined modern version of the story. Created by those that made Tin Man, so it's bound to be awesome especially after watching the trailer. There's more though, since on IMDB there's also noting that Marilyn Manson's Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll will also be out next year, and I don't know if there's movement on the American McGee's Alice movie at all. So yeah, next year is totally going to be a Lewis Carroll year, and I honestly am anticipating it actually. Though my favorite version would have to be Jan Švankmajer's Neco z Alenky. ibroketuesday was talking about freaky slightly traumatizing childhood movies, this could be considered one of those. Even though I didn't watch this when I was a kid, only discovered it a couple years ago, it certainly would've fit right up my alley back then.

Yes. I was a strange, strange child growing up. Probably explains my high tolerance for that kind of stuff now, especially horror films.

Speaking of, the new A Nightmare On Elm Street trailer is out, and GODDAMN IT LOOK GOOD! I'm a huge fan of Wes Craven's NOES movies (and by huge fan, I am completely addicted), but this is a re-imagining which I can deal with. While I still maintain that Robert Englund will always remain the best Freddy Kreuger, I can't wait to see how Jackie Earle Haley handles the role. Also? KATIE MOTHERFUCKING CASSIDY is in this, alongside Thomas Dekker. It is definitely a must-see for me. :D

I do enjoy the Supernatural fandom, I really do. But only the sane parts of it. I don't know what it is about this fandom though, it's like every year with every new season people will find something to bitch about. It's amusing as it is frightening, and I'm afraid to say this but they're almost on the scary level of fanbrat entitlement and wank the Twilighters are. I've seen the comments made by this fandom and it's just so, I don't even know how to word it. It's horrific, and makes me ashamed to even be associated with the SPN fandom.

I'm right there with you. Sometimes the wank amuses me to no end and I giggle, snort, laugh my way through it. Other times the level of hatred and brattiness spewed around enrages me. And the attitude that if they don't like it, well then the majority of people must not like it and Kripke better do what they want or else.

I was just saying last night to a friend that I newly converted over the summer to the show that I wish I had more SPN fans on my flist. But the truth is, I'm too scared to venture much into the fandom because of all the batshit craziness. But I know by doing that I'm missing out on some amazing people as well.

I hope Kripke has realized by now that no matter what changes he tries to make or things he tries to add to this show, there is always going to be a segment of fandom gnashing their teeth at the show & characters not staying static and exactly the same. I just...that attitude astounds me. A show without growth or change is the definition of boredom and death.

Oh my, people were freaking out about Stoner!Cas in the promo for next episode in the Cas thread at TwoP and about the swearing stuff and Cas not acting like Cas. They were making all sorts of assumptions from that small clip that Cas is being played as a joke now and stoner humor. I theorized that I didn't see much humor in Stoner!Cas - more like someone who had been locked out of heaven for years, lost his faith, and given up and was seeking whatever pleasure he could find before the big end - but it remains to be seen. And then explained how Cas being locked out of heaven and stuck on the human plane is of course going to lead to him being more humanized. You should see the replies I got - comparing it to if you are around dogs all the time, you don't start acting like a dog and that he is a 1,000 year old angel and being more human is a step backwards not growth. People astound me.

I absolutely agree with that theory, and it seems the most plausible scenario because Castiel is certainly becoming more humanized these days, but he's not becoming a joke. It's that natural progression of his character that I am loving because he has been gradually coming to be familiarized bit by bit with humanity, especially with being shut off from Heaven. I find that personal growth more than anything, and it's not that he's going to become human. He doesn't want to become human, he misses Heaven but hates how things are being operated up there and wants to make things right. To find God, and being influenced by humanity he is learning about us, of his Father's creations that he admires as well. He's discovering more things day by day, and it's moving forward not backwards. I don't understand why people would think that.

This future episode, I think, will be more depressing for Castiel than a joke. Because while yes, the "orgy" line in the preview was lolarious, the implications underneath is that Castiel has lost all hope. He has lost his faith, sense of direction, and what is worth fighting for anymore if the end is already here? And that is something that Dean has to prevent happening. Which makes his comment in last week's episode of him following his heart and continue on his search for God all the more meaningful.

I know, preaching to the choir here since we both agree on this. But it makes me sad that some will just jump to immediate conclusions before actually seeing everything in context of what is happening. People did with last week's episode before it aired, and they're doing it with this one. Castiel is still Castiel y'all, he's evolving with the story and it's absolutely wonderful.

That kind of attitude turns me off, too. I'm the kind of person that likes taking things into perspective, looking at both sides and figure things out. Hence why I write my meta, I think things through and process it and take other people's comments and input into account. But somehow, that kind of logic is lost on people. They have this notion that if they hate or disagree with something happening in the show, everyone else must too otherwise you're a traitor or something or other and aren't a true fan.

Kripke knows what he's doing, and he knows how riled up fandom gets when something like this happens. He wouldn't do anything just to intentionally get a rise out of the fans, he does it for a reason. The boys splitting up, Castiel becoming a major player, the religious and theological elements playing strongly into the show. All for a reason. I just wish others saw it like that instead of thinking that Kripke doesn't care about the show or has lost his "sense of direction" and "ruining" everything which, yes, I have seen many claim this. Basically, showing their butthurt side, which I kinda lol at.

I've made plenty of new SPN fans recently through memes, but I make absolutely sure that we have the same interests and have the same views. You'd be surprised how many non-batshit crazies there are in fandom. We're just more...quieter than they are. Heh. :)

Fandom is bitching about Kripke having the boys separating, assuming people hate Sam because we agree with this separation, hating Dean for hanging out with Castiel, hating Castiel for coming between the boys, hating the fact that Misha is a regular now, etc. You know, the usual wanking bullshit that fandom pulls. It's gotten to the ridiculous stage where I am torn between thwacking them on the head or just mocking them for being stupid. Perhaps both.

I only watch from the sidelines, because getting into a debate with those people is like going around in circles. Be glad you're not in the loop with the current wank.

We're very fortunate of being wank-free of our flists. I only had one minor incident with someone where we couldn't come to a common ground of letting bygones be bygones in our opinions and it ended in a defriending. It's unfortunate because it didn't end nicely, but oh well. That's how that cookie crumbled. I'm just very grateful that the rest of my friends here are more tolerate of opinions and laugh at all the silliness/stupidity of fandom wank. Even though I end up facepalming at the rest of fandom, but at least we do the facepalming together, amirite?

Yeah, the SPN fandom craziness is just that... crazy! I can no longer show my face around the twop forums because the shere amount of batshittery is just staggering. And I've gotten to the point with all this hatred from supposed "fans" that I just have no tolerance for it anymore. It's stopped being amusing and is now just aggrevating, you know?

This is also the whole reason why I signed up on the Castiel friending meme, because the majority of the SPN fans on my flist seemed to be unhappy with the show, too. I needed some new blood that didn't hate everything about it. Of course, the people on my flist have been very good in the fact that, even if we disagree on how the show's going, we can just agree to disagree and talk about something else, so there hasn't been any wank or defriending, which is good, but still. SPN is my favorite show, and I missed getting to talk to people who share my opinions, you know?

I'm always so baffled at why anyone that dislikes where a direction a show is going continues to watch it. There's no need to harsh the squee of the many others that are still loving and enjoying said show. That's no fun for anyone, and only creates massive panic/wank/drama because of that kind of attitude.

I love Supernatural and I love where it's heading, and while I rarely have anyone saying otherwise I can understand why people would have a falling out. It's saddens me though, because if they continued the route they were going from season three I don't think I would be as invested in SPN as I am now. I know the theological introduction with angels and Heaven turned some people off, and the splitting of the brothers turned even more people off. Which I don't think I'll ever understand, based on the progression of the show's own mythology and perspective of its story it makes sense, but whatever.

Hee, I'm like you in ways. While I like having debates on certain things, finding healthy, civil and rational debates in the SPN fandom is very rare, which is why having people to have similar opinions and viewpoints about the show is more of a comfort than finding others that will just bitch and rant about it.

Because I kept watching Heroes, even though I didn't enjoy some of the things they did after the 1st season, because I was already invested in the characters and wanted to know what happened to them. And I'm glad I stuck with it, because late in season 3 they started to turn things around, and it's in a much better place now. So I can see sticking with a show if it's having a rough patch on the hope that it will eventually turn itself around and your patience will be rewarded.

However, I don't get all the wankery at all. So you don't like it, big deal, that's no reason to be rude to the people who do enjoy it! You can dislike something about a show and still be civil to people about it!

Ditto. Season 3 had some good eps, but it was also the season I enjoyed the least overall. It felt like, after they killed YED, they were just treading water while they tried to figure out what to do next. They didn't seem to have much of a direction. In hindsight, I think that was partially because of all the changes that the CW execs forced on them, and partially because the writer's strike screwed up their momentum and caused them to delay several storylines until season 4, but still. It was definitely the weakest season, IMHO. And also, all the demon stuff was really starting to get old. I totally agreed with Becky the fan in 5x01. Adding in the angels really shook up the mythology in a good way, and focusing on the 66 seals and the apocalypse gave them a sense of purpose that they'd been missing ever since YED's death. Dean's deal was just not a good season-long plot, because you always knew that, even if he did go to hell, somebody was going to get him out of it in the end. So there was no suspense there. But the rise of Lucifer? Now that's a thrilling plot! :-)

I can see this too, since I've done so with some of my other shows. Though mostly I just take a break from it, read the recaps and whatnot, and then when it starts picking up again I go back to it and then perhaps later I may rewatch the season or episodes that I didn't see or didn't like and realize, in retrospect, it wasn't as horrible as I thought it had been. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't.

But wanking and all that other childish nonsense? No. There's no need for it.

I completely agree. I'm so happy that they amped up the mytharc in season four and I think it's the smartest direction they're going in. Not only am I very enthralled with theology in general, but it makes sense that it would head this way. They're connecting all the loose ends and it's absolutely beautiful. Dean going to Hell was inevitable and it was so lackluster in season three, but after that? The seals and Lucifer and the Apocalypse? THAT IS FRAKKING AWESOME! Love it, love it all. :D
