rogueslayer452I find this particular meta regarding the questions and dealings of technological mythology in Dollhouse as it hits the exact points of where the show is concerned regarding the imprinting process and the ongoing question of what makes a person, and how the show goes about dealing with it. I found it quite intriguing, thought-provoking and worth the read, if anyone wants to check it out.
On a related note, there's something I find interesting when there's a clear dividing line with Whedon's Dollhouse; there's people that are going to like it and people that don't, and that's totally fine. It does deal with heavy, controversial subject matter that's not for everyone and there's no need to push something upon someone when they don't find enjoyment in it. Although the arguments I see are very one-sided, it's either fans comparing it to Joss's previous projects or people who merely looking at the surface and not the message that's underneath. I just find that arguments that say Joss is a hypocrite because he's a self-proclaimed feminist yet has a show that supposedly degrades women in such a fashion and that the show is a failure because of that is kind of a narrow perspective, in my opinion. This is a general observation from arguments I've seen since the show premiered, and I think it's kinda interesting just seeing the differences of opinions where the show, or Joss, is concerned.
Needless to say, I love Dollhouse, I love the characters and I love the direction it's going in, especially with the mythology surrounding the Dollhouse technology in particular (see "Epitaph One"). Is it perfect? No, but it has much promise and potential which can only expand when season two starts.
