++ Fandom, sometimes makes me incredibly happy to be a part of, but sometimes it makes me headdesk and stare with disbelief at some of the things I see/read/witness. Particularly the SPN fen, which I know is like shooting fish in a barrel, but still. Most recently there are fans that make the most ridiculous arguments or accusations, and this time it's about Castiel and his actions and behaviors in the most recent episodes which, you'd have to be blind to not understand where he's coming from and what is required of him as a warrior and soldier of God and Heaven. If the handful of you folks in fandom cannot understand this incredibly blatant fact and the reasonings behind it, well, that ain't my problem.
Moreover are the arguments regarding the religious aspect of the show. Okay, I know that sometimes religion can be a touchy topic of discussion for some, however it's not like the show has shoved religion down our throats. Not at all, it's merely taking certain aspects of religion and adding it into the mythos of the entire series overall, which has been present the whole time but its primary focus has been this season.
Also yes, I wholeheartedly believe that some of the angels want the Apocalypse to happen and for Lucifer to rise, it's even been stated within the show by Uriel himself, and that everything's been set up for the inevitable War in Heaven once again; the splitting factors with the good angels versus the turned angels. Heaven has been corrupted, we know this, so making accusations towards a beloved character or even saying that it's outside the scope of possibilities that this would ever happen makes me incredibly agitated. I mean seriously folks, do I need to whack y'all over the head with Book of Revelation or Paradise Lost? Or perhaps Dogma or Good Omens? And yes, for the record, I am loving what this season has been centered around and the direction they are going in with the Winchesters and the Apocalypse. It's probably the best season arc throughout the entire series, imo.
That came out longer than I had anticipated, but I just had to get that off my chest. I like having lengthy meta-discussions, but it's difficult when sometimes people are being stubborn and trying to make you understand their point. I had an issue with this previously with someone before, it doesn't end pretty.
++ This makes me sad, and possibly a bit outraged. How is it possible that when the episodes for Dollhouse get bigger and awesomer and more epic, the ratings continue to dwindle and drop? Now I do understand the demographic about the highly anticipated new Star Trek film being released Friday, as Wolverine was the previous week, but nevertheless is makes little sense. Part of me wants to blame FOX for still keeping in Fridays, but another part blames the fans that stopped watched only a few episodes in just because it "wasn't what they expected." Screw you all.
++ Um, some positive things? I'm officially done with my schooling, in negotiations towards continuing my education, graduation ceremony about a month or so away, and as of today I have started my externship. Moving forward in life, it's a wonderful thing. More on those later in a detailed post, of course. ♥ Also yes, my subject title is of the HSM3 song...I can't help myself, Zac Efron singing that song plus that solo dance he does is epic shit. Shut up, it's so addictive and I like it okay?

Date: 2009-05-12 05:33 am (UTC)I always feel like I've got my head buried in the sand when I see things like this on my flist, but I'm glad for it, I've got enough shit to worry about in my life without having to waste time getting pissed off at idiots. *flop* Er, I'm glad the rest of you are out there telling them off and defending our favorite angel, though. :)) ♥
Yay for being done with school and moving on in life! Exciting stuff. *_*

Date: 2009-05-12 05:47 am (UTC)which is blasphemy!but to not understand what is as plain as day I just, yeah. I need to voice my stance on that at least. But even then sometimes I feel like arguing with those people aren't worth my time. If they cannot see what is right in front of them or, rather what they have to see from an outside perspective and not take things at face value, that's their issue, not mine. And I'll be the one dancing the "I told ya so" dance later on, guaranteed. ;)
OMG I KNOW! *__* I feel like I just started my program, and now I'm done getting bombarded with all this stuff. Time flies by quickly!

Date: 2009-05-12 07:02 am (UTC)Castiel is following orders, he's a warrior and soldier of this holy war and his personal conflictions and attachment to humanity is seen as impairing his judgment by Heaven and his superiors. We will see him struggle with this more, which I like seeing this aspect of his character and I love how they're giving him this kind of development. It's a shame some people aren't seeing it as such, but oh well. It's their loss anyhow.

Date: 2009-05-12 01:23 pm (UTC)You can blame me, because I went in not expecting anything (I stayed away from spoilers) and gave up after seven episodes. I felt absolutely no rapport, no connection with any of the characters, and I got bored. When I found myself spacing out while watching an episode, I knew I was done.
On the other hand, you CAN blame that - the reason I gave up - on Fox. Yes, they gave the show a crappy night, but WAY more importantly, they stuck their noses in creatively. They apparently forced Whedon to make the first five episodes stand-alone so they would draw in new viewers. That wound up being the fault that killed the show, honestly. Since I didn't feel much for the characters, there wasn't even a strong underlying plot set-up to draw me in. :/
I may someday go back and check out the rest of the episodes... I just don't know when. :(
I hope Whedon's learned his lesson by now, after Firefly and now Dollhouse. No more Fox!

Date: 2009-05-12 05:55 pm (UTC)I definitely agree about the FOX issue though. I was slightly optimistic because Joss appeared optimistic, the same with Eliza, but once we knew it would be teamed up with TSCC on Friday nights -- I kinda knew both shows were either going to die there or barely make it out alive. FOX doesn't have great marketing strategies when it comes to shows like Dollhouse, it did great with TSCC but I think that was marginally due to the WGA strike and it was the only new thing on television at that time. And with Dollhouse, the promotions for the show made it seem like it was advertising sex which isn't what the show was about -- it was nearly like they were deliberately trying to draw viewers into the show with the "hey, nekkid!Eliza being saucy, wanna watch?"
Which ironically, is kinda what Joss's message regarding that kind of exploitation within the show. Heh.
I hope Whedon's learned his lesson by now, after Firefly and now Dollhouse. No more Fox!
Despite the fact that it was FOX that approached Eliza for a concept for a new show, Eliza went to Joss and he hopped onboard with her ideas. So in a way, if it hadn't been for FOX we wouldn't have even gotten any Dollhouse at all (and that's how tricksy they are, they greenlight shows that no other network would've taken but then cancel them before their time, which sucks out loud majorly). My thing is if there's hope, perhaps another network can pick it up.

Date: 2009-05-12 05:43 pm (UTC)The direction they've taken this season is pretty damn epic as far as I'm concerned, and while I know that some people either are deep within their own religion or aren't religious at all, they have to understand that they're taking pieces of certain religious aspects and molding it to fit into the mythos of the show. And I love it.
