First and foremost, the inauguration yesterday was absolutely phenomenal, from the sea of millions of people to the speech in the end. I watched it and even though I had to drive to school, I turned on the radio and listened to Obama's entire speech which was so powerful and inspirational that I actually teared up, and apparently anything involving this stuff nowadays has me getting slightly emotional. Not only is he a charismatic speaker, he speaks passionately about his plans and actually addressed the people as human beings instead of just saying things for the sake of saying them because of his position. Yesterday was a historical marker, and I am proud that I not only participated in this election but also that we, as a nation, came together in innumberable amounts to make this happen. Nobody can just sit there and say that the inauguration wasn't just some event, and nobody just wave their hands dismissively at what happened yesterday. This is taking the next step towards change in this country, change that we desperately need and obviously want, and while Obama still has many things to do to prove to us he'll take commitment to his words, this entire election has made me believe all things are possible. It's been a long time coming and I am grateful at this very moment. This has given us the light and hope and optimism this country needs.

Obviously it's going to take time and patience, nothing will be healed magically in how we would like, but at least we'll be making the attempt to be moving forward instead of moving two steps backwards as we have been doing over the last eight years. I believe Obama is that man to bring us this, and while some will have doubts, some had doubts about this election and look what happened. So yes, I do have faith given these recent events and have his utmost support and we'll be seeing how he does in his leadership skills over the next four years.

I didn't anticipate making another political post like this since I'm sure everyone's already seen billions of them, however I felt it necessary and appropriate given the amount of happiness and joy I felt all through yesterday. I continue to feel that love as we've entered the rebirth of a new era for the United States. ♥
"For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus - and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace." I'm still shocked he mentioned atheists.

I think he's the first president to acknowledge it, actually, which makes me more hopeful for the future. He covered everything that has been surpressed and talked about things that people wanted and needed to hear, because to have a president that just the same-old schtick without acknowledging the other stuff isn't speaking for the people. Obama speaks for the people, and for that I have the utmost respect.

I just wish him the best for the days to come, since it's going to be hard and not easy, but he also addressed that as well. That entire speech was just....I am still shivering as I read/watch it.

I'm cynical beyond all reason and even I'm starting to be a little bit hopeful that this might actually mean something. I don't like getting hopeful about politicians. They're too good at letting people down.

Oh well! *crosses fingers*

For me, I can't help but be optimistic. That is who I am by default, and though I agree politicians aren't really that great at times I do have faith in Obama.

So yes, crossing my fingers as well. :)

Ooh I'm optimistic everywhere else but I am thoroughly tainted by the New Labour party basically turning into the Conservatives, when my family have been thoroughly Labour since my Grandad immigrated to London in the war. Plus now we have a toad for a prime minister which is slightly discouraging.

I'm hoping this spells a new era for politics in the West. I'm still cynical, but the fact the hope is there at all is proof of how inspirational Obama can be!

Yeah, some may be tainted based on differing experiences, and I can understand that. But in this instance hope is on the horizon, and I like seeing even the cynics seeing the possibilities for our nation's future. ;)

He is certainly inspirational, and even though time will tell if he'll be staying committed to all he's promising most of what he's saying will come to pass isn't impossible to achieve. He's speaking as a whole for not only the American people for for everyone globally. And that is where I lie my faith, because as he said it will take time and there will be many obstacles, but with everyone's help we can accomplish so much even if it's one thing at a time.

It is such an amazing feeling, isn't it? Even saying "President Obama" just sounds wonderful. :)
