Word in recent LJ News updates is that Basic Accounts are no longer an option as of yesterday, March 12th. I have already voiced my displeased opinions with others who've posted about it, and while I am, along with others, are in the clear what concerns me about this whole ordeal is that this wasn't announced before yesterday nor was it even officially announced at all. And I think, being users of this particular site, the new owners should respect that even if they don't deem it "important" for all users it should at least be mentioned so everyone can know what's coming before it actually happens. Hell, even Brad the founder of LiveJournal is not impressed with this change that even he didn't want to happen, and which his concerns are basically being ignored by the advisory board that he is a member of.

This is going to raise a whole lot of uproar, as it already has in the short timespan of several hours now. Let's just hope SUP listens and take into consideration to their customer's complaints, because while I understand it's a business and they've done stuff like this before and this won't be the last stunt they'll pull there are certain responsibilities on their side to those who use their site.

But to take one's mind off of this recent drama, I present to you: ACHMED THE DEAD TERRORIST! I was literally LOLing at this for the longest time the other night after watching that, so hilarious.

It's a small change, but it's a small change that makes a HUGE impact on the entire LJ community. I just wish they'd acknowledged that fact rather than thinking it isn't a big deal. It wouldn't be if they'd followed a procedure of letting us know beforehand. :/

This is utterly ridiculous. I thought after the shit that happened last year, they'd would learn, but that was hoping for too much. For me, it's not so much that they are got rid of the basic account option, it's the fact no one made an official announcement about it.

Fandom_wank has a post about it here. I'm keeping an eye on that report considering it was fandom_wank who had better researchers than the New York Times when it came to reporting the JKR/WB vs. Steve Vander Ark/RDR Books drama.

I was thinking of buying an account to upload many pretty Mohinder and Sendhil icons and get some of the other special features only available on it. Unless they do something impressive in the near future, they will not get any money from me.

I love LJ, I just think the new owners need to understand their users a little better before making decisions like this and thinking it doesn't matter either way. It does, it really does. Granted we're not affected since I'm not going to go plus account just to get several more icon spaces and crappy ads filling my journal unless it's the Mohinder Dream Study ad, but this changes what LJ used to stand for.

Dude, seriously. I pretty much caught up with all that wankage and it amazes me the kinds of whackos there are in the HP fandom, and I'm glad to have a source that brings down the insanity of all fandom (or non-fandom) drama.

*nods* I've been thinking along the same lines as well regarding paid accounts. I've never had one, even though I'm always wanted one because I have SO much icons saved up that I want to use, and I hate rotating my six just to use them. But with LJ being all "GIVE US UR MONIES!" at the moment I'm not sure I'm willing to pay for one just for the extra features. Also, I'm not even sure if I do get one and it expires that my account would return to the basic account I have now or it'll automatically transfer to a plus account because of this new change.

At one point, I thought LJ was learning. Some asshat tried to pass off thamiris's (a BNF in Smallville fandom and was actually from what I've seen of her entries, she was very intelligent, witty, and genuinely a nice person) fics and personal entries as his own. thamiris had cancer and passed away last year and some of her friends raised money to make her account permanent so it could not be deleted. Luckily, LJ was quick to suspend the guy's account though. *sighs*

Oh man, I used to be on the fringes of the Harry Potter fandom and crap even there, I saw some of the crazies. I wish the trial was going to be on television. Oh well. We'll just have to wait for the Law and Order version! XD

I had a paid account once, and I'm still able to see the icons on my userpics window when I'm logged in. I fear if I delete any of the icons I am using now, one of the other icons will randomly be used and I really want to just be able to add/delete icons without worrying. I'm not even sure either. Damn, why can't things for once make sense in the world?

I think HRG needs to cap a bitch. Y/N?

I read about that horrible scandal, and it's pretty disgusting some asshole would intentionally do something like that. Just, ugh.

Hee, it would be hilarious if there was a L&O episode surrounding the HP copyright lawsuit. I do wish I could see the catfight between JKR and Steve Vander Ark, now THAT would be entertaining for sure. Though JKR would rip him into shreds, since she's already burned him in that intelligently written statement regarding his disregard of her books.
