Writers and Studios quit negotiations, the strike still continues.

I support the writers all the way. There's no doubt that they are in the right and what they're asking for isn't unreasonable or radical by any means, but I have a feeling this is going to be a stubborn fight. This stubborn fight has already taken drastic turns when our shows have left the air, with nothing new other than shitty reality TV, game shows and reruns, and unless they come to an agreement on some sort of common ground of understanding, not only are the productions of shows being affected by this, but the workers and actors as well. Not too long ago there was an announcement that things were moving along in negotiations, but I'm guessing that wasn't true, and it looks like nothing will be resolved before 2008.

But I'm still being optimistic that somehow, in some miraculous way, an agreement can be made in the near future that makes both parties happy. My predictions are between January and Februrary, March at the latest. But hopefully it doesn't resort into going that long.

Dude, seriously. It's not a difficult thing to grasp, and I would've thought that after a few weeks they would've come to an agreement because really, it isn't big of what they're asking. It pisses me off that the studios think they're high and mighty and are greedy bastards for not reconsidering their original "offer" that the writers turned down. It's just, ugh. But I'm glad the Director's Guild and SAG are going to be behind the writers, and hopefully that'll open the eyes of the AMPTP. If not, well, then we're all screwed. :/

This will be a historical moment in Hollywood, most definitely. My predictions is once this gets settled our show schedules probably won't be until like, the fall of 2008. So that means we'll have to suffer through tedious reruns and reality shit.

It's really not a big thing when the studios are telling their shareholders they're making BILLIONS from online revenue. 2.5 percent when we're talking billions isn't really a noticible dent, is it? And I mean, it's 2.5 percent... they're literally asking for pennies on the dollar here. I honestly can't fathom how the AMPTP think they're being seen as anything other than greedy bastards. Pardon the writers for not wanting to get screwd on internet risiduals the way they did on home video. *rolls eyes* The writers said from the on-set that it could take months, and at the rate things are going, I think I'll be shocked if this one isn't longer than the one in '88.

My one fear over the fact that the Directors Guild and SAG are going to be negotating soon too is the fact that if either of those unions makes a deal before the writers it sucks a lot of the power away from the WGA in the process.

Fall of 2008 at least, and I would think no pilot season for that Fall either. Maybe January of 2009. At least I've got a small mountian of DVDs to keep me busy (Strike programing will NOT be watched by me). Won't be buying any myself until this is resolved. It's pretty much the only thing I can do from Canada besides the few boxes of pencils I purchased... put a tiny dent in the bottom line. Christmas alone between the ones I would have bought for family/friends or recieved myself we're talking at least 500 dollars, I'm sure. Sadly sales figures for At World's End make it seem like I'm alone in this.
