One for the money, two for the show.
Sep. 21st, 2007 02:05 pmTuning into BBC America, I've been strangely addicted to Torchwood and Coupling. The latter is freaking hilarious, and is basically the British version of Sex and the City. Quite intriguing, it is. Torchwood is a show I knew I would be interested in, considering it's a spinoff of another show I like, and another reason is obviously for John Barrowman. I watched "Day One", and let me tell you there is nothing more interesting than watching an episode about an alien that murders by feeding off of human orgasms. Good stuff.
For the Asian dramas, I finally finished watching Anna san no Omame, and probably am going to start Gokusen and Unfair. I've been meaning to watch Gokusen for a while but haven't gotten around to it. Unfair is definitely worthwhile because it involves an intelligent, kickass female homicide detective; think early Veronica Mars, but cold with more guts.
I'll also be renting some movies this weekend. It's been a while since I've done so, and I have compiled a list of films I have yet to see and/or have been recommended to me.
Last night on The Daily Show there was a segment report about a new reality show on CBS called Kid Nation, and even though disturbing as the clips they showed I wanted to research what all of this was really about for myself and....What. The. Fuck. They seriously thought this would be considered a good "educational" idea? It's like a retarded version of The Tribe mixed with Lord of the Flies; like kids know anything about creating a viable society by their lonesome selves. First of all, they don't care about making their own government because soon they'll be back home, where their protection bubble and familiarity is, doing what they normally do. Let them come face-to-face with a REAL society epidemic without dealing with cameras of being on television, and see how they handle it. Otherwise I think it's a joke, highly disturbing and doesn't really do anything other than subject these kids into a situation, being filmed willingly therefore entirely scripted, where they have to do what adults do daily. I haven't seen the show, and I'm thankful for that, because reality TV doesn't appeal to me anyway. This just adds another reason to avoid it at all costs.
Just a little venting there. I saw the snippet shown last night and was just befuddled with what I saw. Like, what are these producer people smoking?! Seriously.
