LJ/DW origins.

Taken from [community profile] thefridayfive:

01. How long ago did you join LJ (or DW)?
I joined LiveJournal in 2003, back when they had invite codes. I joined DW in 2012 when many LJ users were starting to migrate, or at least backup their journals, due to a lot of issues concerning the LJ ownership and handling of things, and I wanted to keep in touch with those on my LJ flist. I didn't do anything with my DW account until 2022 when I finally transferred my journal entries to DW and deleted my old LJ account.

02. How did you find out about LJ (or DW)?
I can't really remember with LJ, my sister had an account before I did (she helped get the invite code for me to join back then) and I would search randomly and read random journal entries and things, so I'm sure it was from word-of-mouth that way. With DW it was through LJ, since it was created as an alternative solution in case LJ went down.

03. If someone introduced you to LJ (or DW), is s/he still on your friends list?
Yes.

04. Have you introduced anyone to LJ (or DW)?
Only people online that I know from other platforms, not in real life.

05. Is your LJ (or DW) public or friends only, and why?
Mostly public, I keep things regarding my personal life and some other things that discuss serious things behind locked entries, but otherwise it's relatively public. Although I have been reconsidering this due to the invasive rise of AI scrapping.

An end of an era, but a new beginning.

Well, I did it. I finally deleted my LJ account.

It's bittersweet, to say the least, but I cannot lie to say that there's a bit of a relief to it. I think I was holding on as I was because LJ was the first online website I ever joined. I created it in 2003 when I was still in high school, so it was a huge part of my life. But of course it's less about the place in particular and more of the people and community that it had, and once that started dwindling away I was deluding myself that somehow people would find their way back, and some did trickle in here and there but mostly the sense of community that I loved was no longer active. And, well, with everything going on there is a sense of unease of staying, something I've been contemplating for a while, too, just in a general sense.

So it is sad in a way, like an end of an era, but I don't regret it.

I guess I mourn what could eventually be lost in the process, should anything happen, because there's so much fandom history stored on LJ that the possibility of those things not being preserved and archived would be a shame. I know some are trying to find ways of archiving certain communities, but there's so much and so little time to do so. Even I tried to save some of the things I had in my memories, but there was so much content that it was impossible to do so.

But I have my entries/comments imported, I have followed my fellow ljfriends who have also migrated to DW, and I'm finding newer friends along the way. So that's good. It's just a continuation of what I was already doing, but like a fresh start in a sense.

(On a random note: I'm still amazed that for all the years I was on LJ I was able to maintain the "Dystopia" skin for entirety of the site, even when they tried to get me to the newest site updates I never did. So I had the "old LJ" layout despite them attempting to look and have additions similar to other social media platforms. I guess that was by pure luck. Heh.)

New friends for the new year.

The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] luxos is hosting a multi-fandom friending meme, for anyone who wants to meet more fandom friends before the new year!

❋ O tidings of comfort and joy. ❋

++ ✧・゚:* Merry Christmas! *:・゚✧ I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday, if you celebrated. Mine was relatively lowkey, we didn't really get as festive as we usually do due to the fact that we sort of started getting ready for the season later than normal. But overall, it was pretty okay.

++ Apparently Writer's Block is back. I never thought I would see the day.

++ Orphan Black Season 3 teaser, and in case anyone else who doesn't know already Ksenia Solo from Lost Girl will be guest-starring in the new season!

++ Okay, so I'm not part of the Legend of Korra fandom, but hearing about what happened in the series finale it makes me incredibly happy to see a F/F relationship featured in a children's program, and yes, it has been officially confirmed canon and fully acknowledged as a bisexual relationship by the creators. While there was no actual on-screen kiss, it definitely was a big step in the right direction of having some representation. Also, I've been watching reaction videos and I love seeing all the excited, flaily responses, this one being my favorite because I can totally relate being an utter fangirling mess when it comes to my ships. Like, I feel you girl, I feel you. And to have your particular ship be shown and confirmed as canon when you never thought it would be, especially in acknowledgment about the development of their relationship and sexuality? That is an awesome and amazing thing. I just feel so happy for all you Korrasami fans out there. (✿◠‿◠)

October Question Meme: Day Ten

Asked by [livejournal.com profile] dhampyresa:

How did you get into fandom?

Interestingly enough, through LiveJournal. I had lurked around other forums and websites previously, but I hadn't really participated in anything until I had joined LJ in early 2003 (through invite code, btw). Aside from the occasional website visit, I actually wasn't even that into being online all that much until like 2001-2002. So basically, LJ was my first gateway to anything fandom. My main fandoms at the time were, of course, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Harry Potter, and things just grew from there.

New friends and LJ memes.

Huge welcome to all new friends: [livejournal.com profile] pocochina, [livejournal.com profile] malicat, [livejournal.com profile] green_wing, and [livejournal.com profile] zombie_boogie.

I haven't done one of these things in a long time, so I'm not particularly sure what to say. So I figured that a meme would suffice in the whole "getting to know me" thing (at least for now). Needless to say, I'm happy that there's more friending memes being circulated about now.

That little LJ meme thing )

Yay or nay?

I'm kind of switching things up with my journal by changing the layout, which I haven't done in a long, long time. I wish I didn't have to since I was perfectly content with the one I had before, but tbh after the recent unnecessary changes LJ has been doing I figured it was time for a change of scenery anyway. So I'm testing this one out. Though I'm not quite sure how I feel about it yet. But I fixed the ljcut situation, and the comments are back to being normal-ish. So that's a good. But otherwise, I don't know. What do you think? A good place to start for now?

Also, for future reference, does anyone know any other places where I can find customized LJ layouts? I've got some saved from [livejournal.com profile] mintyapple but I'm wondering if there's any more like those just in case? I may or may not want to test them out in the near future, despite my being CSS dumb and all.

Anyone still on LJ?

In light of recent events, by that I mean the abrupt changes this site has made and causing much kerfuffle by the majority of its users despite them not really giving a damn about our concerns, there's been a massive amount of non-activity, at least from my observation via my own friendslist. Everyone seems to have migrated elsewhere, be it Tumblr or Dreamwidth, or just aren't online anymore these days or just up and deleted their journal for good. Of course it's not all due to the stupidity of these changes, some people have just moved on and that's fine, but having been on LJ since 2003 I've come to know many amazing people and seeing them not online anymore, no word on where they went, just makes me kinda sad.

If you're still here give a shout-out. Also, if you're located elsewhere, let me know those as well.

I'm mostly on Tumblr these days: cylon-angel

I'll still be posting here, obviously. I still hate what this site has done (and continues to do) and part of me wants to just switch over to Style 2 so I can get a customized layout so I don't have to deal with the stupidity of the comments section or how the entries look in my journal. Of course, I don't know what that would cost me (if I change it will I get the original back if I don't like S2?) Or should I switch everything over to DreamWidth instead? Just, gah. Idk. :/

LJ is the Grinch that stole Christmas, indeed. :/

More details regarding the recent fucked up shenanigans that has been happening. Everyone is still upset about the new changes LiveJournal did with the settings, receiving 9,000+ comments on the release page and over 1,000 on their news page. They say they are "considering" our feedback about the new settings, unfortunately until we seem so dramatic proof that they are, indeed, listening to us and that they are going to fix this mess I am not believing in anything they are saying.

Lately there seems to be a huge blowup concerning [livejournal.com profile] igrick, who apparently is the head of LiveJournal Russia, and his unprofessional and mocking behavior towards other users. Here is a translation of the exchanges and his words, along with more information about the other changes the site has made this year which affects its users.

Ways You Can Get Your Voice Heard

Sign the petition and spread it around, get it to as many LJ users as possible.

[livejournal.com profile] rollback88 has a poll regarding these changes. Fill it out and pass it around.

Comment on their news and release feeds if you haven't already. Let them know how you feel directly, or leave a direct comment in their feedback.

I'm still researching more on what has been going on, keeping tabs on everything and finding other ways on voicing our complaints and making sure that the people running the site hear us. I know it's a long-shot considering their lack of concern over our concerns and opinions, but we can at least try. Granted it's not going to magically happen overnight, since that shit takes time to revert to the old setting, but hopefully it all goes back to normal before or just after the new year. I'm giving them that amount of time frame before I am going all Lima Heights again.

RAGE

Petition Against New Recent Changes On LiveJournal

Because this is some fucked up bullshit right here.

I didn't become a paid member so the most simplistic features would become complicated and that the entire LJ staff would ignore everyone's concerns and input, or even allow our input or consulting with us before making these ridiculous changes. Sign the petition and also let them know in this post here.

"Bowties are, and always will be, cool!"

++ So, capslock aside I have managed to fully understand everything that happened in last night's episode and I still stand by praising Edlund for giving the fans what we've been wanting all this time. Granted the season is still sloppy and a mess and is a huge DNW in general, but there was something worth by mentioning Castiel in the right manner by acknowledging him being a dear friend, and Dean not being Dean because of it such a huge loss. Thank you, Edlund. ♥

++ I am, sadly, not participating in GISHWHES, however I wish everyone who is good luck! :D

++ I did a little friendslist clean-up over the last few days. Nothing major, just communities and journals that haven't updated in over two or three years or those who I haven't communicated with at all/have nothing of common interests anymore. I'm getting a lot of spambots randomly friending me though, that's a little disconcerting. :S In general, LJ hasn't been much of an interactive beacon lately between all the screw-ups the site has been experiencing lately, hence me spending a lot of time on Tumblr. But I'm hoping that gets redeemed though, since I miss talking with you guys.

++ Matt Smith as the Doctor in the Children In Need skit + DOCTOR WHO CHRISTMAS SPECIAL TRAILER!!!

THE DOCTOR + NARNIA-INSPIRED CHRISTMAS SPECIAL? MOFFAT WHAT ABSOLUTE BRILLIANCE HAVE YOU DONE THIS TIME? Also, nice little fanservicey skit considering it's a benefit and the need for bidding on his clothes, lol. Awesometastic. "Bowties are, and always will be, cool!" Yes indeed, Doctor. Indeed they always will. ♥

PSA: Is anyone out there?

It's been my observation that LJ has been very quiet lately. Most of which seemed to happen during or after the whole hacking incident, which is understandable, many felt uneasy when the place was constantly shutting down and trying to repel the hackers who were causing so much trouble. I know some have migrated over to Dreamwidth or Tumblr because of that, however these days it feels like all my flist either aren't posting or just aren't online anymore, which might not be the case. It is summer hiatus, after all, and I know most of you have lives outside of the online world. But still, it feels like I'm kind of alone on here and that it makes me sad.

So please, my lovely flist, let me know that you're still alive and that you haven't gone anywhere, even if you just lurk/read and don't usually comment. I just want to know who is still alive out there in 'ole LJland so that I don't feel abandoned get worried.

LOOK, I CAN ACTUALLY UPDATE!

++ LiveJournal seems to be underneath more DDOS attacks, this has been the second major hit the site has faced within a week, hence why they have been abruptly not loading properly for anyone that has been wondering. I'm hoping they can get this situation properly fixed so there aren't anymore attacks, because I'll be honest....I would be devastated if this site was to be down indefinitely. I would miss you all sfm, like for real. My heart would be broken. :( lol @ my life being all dependent on ELJAY. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU GOT UNTIL IT'S GONE, BBS. *clings to you all*

++ UPLIFTING NEWS HOWEVER! For or all you Dean/Castiel shippers out there: "Some Hunters Marry Pretty Boy Angels. Get Over It." T-Shirt which you can purchase now. \O/

++ I am majorly disappointed that no store anywhere (in my area) carries the Sucker Punch soundtrack. I mean yeah, I have it on my computer but I would also like the purchase it for real, physically in my hands as I walk out of the store and play it in my car as I'm driving home. Oh well, that is what Amazon is for I suppose. Still, I pretty much sadfaced after each place I went to the other day and I left empty-handed. ;__;

++ Currently in love with this song right now. Catchy and upbeat with a positive message. Everyone needs to hear it. If you're feeling down or just need something to get through your day, listen to this song. ♥

Not cool, LJ.

So. LiveJournal decided that they are no longer accepting "/" in their tags, which means everything in the tagging system for pairings and others including the forwardslash is completely nonfunctional, thus making things even harder to identify and locate.

NOT COOL ELJAY, NOT COOL AT ALL. FIX THIS ASAP OR FEEL THE WRATH OF MANY USERS.

*silently fumes at douchenozzles responsible*

ETA: It seems like this was an unintentional fluke and they are currently working on fixing it, so problem somewhat averted. Although many of the new features added seem to be of much annoyance, and rightfully so. Sometimes when they add something new it can be something I don't care for so I ignore it, but it seems like they keep adding new stuff that isn't really necessary and without options of turning it off and yeah, it's understandably annoying.

I'M FEELING THE LOVE, U GUISE.

++ First of all, this V-Gift Snowflake Cookie sending thing, which is of no charge whatsoever? THE BESTEST THING EVER CREATED! Of course it's only for the holidays thus limited time offer, but dammit it's made so many people happy just to get acknowledged and have that kind of love from their lj-friends. This is why I love this time of the year. Spreading the love all over the place. It's contagious. THANK YOU EVERYONE! SERIOUSLY, SO MUCH LOVE I'M ABOUT TO BURST! ♥

++ SciFi's Alice premiered this evening, the first part, and it is SO FRAKKING GOOD YOU GUISE, OMG. Of course it would be good, it was developed by the people that did Tin Man which was awesome in itself so this was definitely going to be amazing, too. Plus, I really enjoy different takes on these kinds of stories, of the Alice in Wonderland story and recreating an entire universe based around it, just like with what they did with Wizard of Oz for Tin Man. A futuristic alternate universe kind of fairytale, with its own legends and mythology. I love it. I'll have more thoughts once the miniseries is all wrapped up by tomorrow night.

And...I kinda ship Alice/Hatter. Oh come on, you all agree with me, don't lie. The chemistry and UST is scorching, like whoa. And Hatter is quite hot, not gonna lie. *g*

++ Is it pathetic of me of actually waiting for SciFi to air a freaking preview for Stonehenge Apocalypse? Between the awesome Caprica previews, I am not ashamed in saying that I was waiting for them to show at least something. WHEN IS IT COMING OUT?! I WANT AND NEED MY MISHA COLLINS FIX NOW, DAMMIT! IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT MISHA MUST BE ON EVERYTHING ON DEMAND, RIGHT NOW.

A post, on Friday? OMG!

Much happened today, I was really busy and preoccupied and wasn't online much because of it. You all know my feelings about this whole "content strike" business, as quite obviously I'm not partaking in it. For those that did, good for you for believing in wanting to do something. And that's all I'm going to say about that topic, since everyone's probably tired of hearing about it. Besides it's over for most people anyway, so whatever.

Okay, I am completely consumed with the BSG hype that's going on so I figured I do a theories post about it. Or rather, what I believe might happen come season four. I know no further spoilers than what's been shown from the previews and clips that's been released.

I've been to Earth, and I'm going to take us there. )

Sorry if none of those made any kind of sense that's logical or coherent! I've been having thinky-thoughts for a long while and I needed to get them out there. Hee.

It also appears that Caprica, the prequel series, has been greenlit and is ready to go. They say it's going to be much different than BSG, but that's to be expected naturally. I'm just happy there's to be more expansion of this universe that I've grown to love and appreciate, and I have faith that RDM and David Eick will create a show that, while different, can please viewers as it goes fifty years prior. Either way, yay!

Oy, the drama.

All this LJ strike drama is giving me a headache. This whole thing is ridiculous. I have nothing against those who want to do something in regards to SUP's actions, and I understand their frustrations and intentions with this, however this "one day strike" business is just silly and pointless. It's not going to accomplish anything other than it being another one of those slow days on LJ. Many are going to not post, while many others are. No big difference is going to be made. If you want an effective strategy to fight for something, try contacting those in charge by writing well-written angry letters describing the problem instead of boycotting one day. Or, y'know, accept the changes even if it sucks and live with the fact that these new owners are going to do what they will because it is their business now and businesses have to make sacrifices for more profits. Even if they're shitty at it.

I'm tired and cranky, and I'm going to be frank about this: I won't be participating. I'm not leaving LiveJournal. I'm going to post Friday if I want to, and if anyone has a problem with that can shove it. M'kays?

Sidenote: I don't mean to disrespect those who are participating, if that's what you want you have every right to. I'm just in a ranty mood because all this wank and whining has exploded and it's driving me absolutely mad and I don't want to be called a "traitor" or whatever just because I'm not following suit with everyone else.

Adding my voice to the masses.

Word in recent LJ News updates is that Basic Accounts are no longer an option as of yesterday, March 12th. I have already voiced my displeased opinions with others who've posted about it, and while I am, along with others, are in the clear what concerns me about this whole ordeal is that this wasn't announced before yesterday nor was it even officially announced at all. And I think, being users of this particular site, the new owners should respect that even if they don't deem it "important" for all users it should at least be mentioned so everyone can know what's coming before it actually happens. Hell, even Brad the founder of LiveJournal is not impressed with this change that even he didn't want to happen, and which his concerns are basically being ignored by the advisory board that he is a member of.

This is going to raise a whole lot of uproar, as it already has in the short timespan of several hours now. Let's just hope SUP listens and take into consideration to their customer's complaints, because while I understand it's a business and they've done stuff like this before and this won't be the last stunt they'll pull there are certain responsibilities on their side to those who use their site.

But to take one's mind off of this recent drama, I present to you: ACHMED THE DEAD TERRORIST! I was literally LOLing at this for the longest time the other night after watching that, so hilarious.

O Hai LJ, Where U Be At?

In the midst of the power outage that effected LJ/Six Apart operations, while I busied myself with other things/chores I'm glad that LiveJournal has returned. Fwee.

So I've been watching CSI on SpikeTV, because nothing else interesting is on and I'm waiting for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to come on. So far I've seen guest-appearances by Zachary Quinto, Tricia Helfer, Mark Sheppard, and Ian Somerhalder, all three episodes back-to-back. Quite a treat, actually. And I find it interesting that Mark and Tricia have worked before, in this as well as in the third season of BSG. Yes, I like making those little connections of fandoms colliding. I am easily amused and entertained by those notions, so sue me. This makes me really want Zachary and Tricia to work together giving me ideas for Sylar/Six sexiness. Okay, I'll stop now.

After seeing those previews for the movie I Know Who Killed Me, it does look mildly intriguing. However, I'm certainly not rushing to a theater to see it. Perhaps if they'd gotten a different lead actress instead of Lohan I would feel more interested. But I don't want to waste my money on that trainwreck.

Dude, you're gettin' an upgrade!

Whoa, holy LJ mainpage makeover Batman. It's certainly...interesting. Convenient yet, weird. I like that I can see who's birthday is arriving next, though.

I should probably place this stuff in my college posts, but it's very brief and I don't feel like separating it from everything else. Concerning this summer, I had decided some time ago after thinking it through that I wasn't going to take any summer classes despite wanting to get ahead of myself in certain subjects (i.e. mathematics). I'm also considering taking online courses for the fall semester as a possible alternative so I can deal with things happening in my life right now. Which is a nice option so I don't have to deal with the stresses of having to attend classes, I can just do it from home and still keep myself from having a complete meltdown by overworking.

In other news that isn't college-related, I'm listening to the cast commentaries for the Heroes episodes, and I have to say they are absolutely hilarious, and very informative too. I hope these make it onto the DVDs, or as extras or something. This is what makes this fandom so great is not only is it just purely amazing, but the cast and crew are entirely invested in the show along with the fans. I just think that's great, a very rare gem to find these days.

ETA: Dude, LJ, I know you're undergoing changing things on the site and whatever, but not giving me comment notifications? Not cool.
